They did partially fade the logo into the scene at the beginning of the movie. The shape of the Lucasfilm logo matches up perfectly with the shape of the lock on the back of the Nazi truck. It just happens very fast compared to the other ones

Worth pointing out John Williams delivering another (and possibly final) wonderful Indy score. Helena’s Theme is gorgeous, the Voller and various Nazi themes are intense, and the Archimedes Theme is very tranquil. It’s all mixed and recorded very well and while there is a lot of returning music too, it serves as a nice touchstone throughout the film. Also Alex, the soundtrack reveals the prologue does take place in Germany, 1944.

For me has been strangely the most emotional one from the saga. I never thought a Indiana Jones could made me cry, even less with something that came from my less favourite entry from the saga

@@DanielDaniel-wk1upThat scene put a lump in my throat. Sure wasn't expecting that. It actually elevated the movie for me, because when i thought about it after, there is nothing in the other 4 movies that comes close to that level of emotion. And that in itself was worth the price of the ticket ✌️

I tend to think the trope of the villain death is less "supernatural" and more broadly "brutal/violent". And if you see Voller's body when Archimedes examines the plane wreckage, he's got very gruesome injuries

I saw the Lucasfilm logo fade into the lock at the beginning, i demand a recount! Haha but seriously I pretty much had the same thoughts on the film. I did enjoy it! I think alot if the magic of the Indy trilogy is in how movies were made back in the 80s and it gave them a particular vibe that just isnt there in movies today with their HD and all that. But Dial's story is compelling filled with great characters, and stands on its own feet, commenting on the past without relying on references. I two would rank it at number 3 in the series for me. Also i just love seeing Sallah again!

Indy has a line about needing the dial to prove his innocence. He has the dial in the ending so presumably he was cleared.

Also, Agent Mason told the CIA of Voller's actions of killing everyone to get the Dial so they already cleared Indy. This led to Voller being arrested forcing Voller and his men to kill the CIA agents and hijack the helicopter. Plus, the CIA knows Indy considering of his deeds to recover artifacts and fight Nazis during WWII. That is why Agent Mason tried to play it safe when it involved Dr. Jones.

Yeah I had a feeling Dial would fall under the following rankings for most people: A. Better than Crystal but not as good as Raiders, Temple & Crusade. B. Better than Crystal and/on par with Temple but not as good as Raiders and Crusade. I'll be watching later this evening and so far I feel like I'm gonna fall under B, which Im fine with. Ive been on an Indython this entire month with watching the first four movies and the show chronologically, so I gotta admit this is gonna be bittersweet.

This was probably already pointed out, but the opening logo trope does in fact appear in the movie! Instead of the Paramount mountain, the Lucasfilm logo becomes the door handle of the truck that Indy gets pulled out of. I was a bit confused as to why they didn’t just do the mountain since they had the paramount logo, but I’m glad they did it anyways!

Harrison Ford was right when he said, "Indiana Jones movies are about mystery and adventure, but they’re also about heart". Regarding the Dial of Destiny he adds, “We have a really human story to tell as well - a movie that will kick your ass.” And yeah, it kicked my ass and really moved my heart and satisfied my mind to the franchise I've come to love since I was a child. The opening really brought back the Indiana Jones action and humor that I've always loved from the franchise. The special effects from the beginning might be jarring for some, but I'm sure if I saw this movie as a kid, it wouldn't bother me for a second. One of the aspects about this film that does better than the fourth entry of Indiana Jones is you really feel Indiana's age catching up with him. James Mangold (the director of the film) did this really well with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in Logan and I wasn't expecting anything less from this film. You can tell Harrison Ford is really giving his all one last time as Indiana Jones. The action sequences are as fun and exciting as the first and third Indiana Jones film in the sense that you can believe it would happen opposed to the fun absurdity action sequences you get from the second and fourth Indiana Jones films. Although the action scenes are not as bloody as the other films, the action still is gritty enough to enjoy for all fans of the series. I absolutely love the cinematography of the film as it is beautifully crafted and the extras really sell the environments of the film. The costuming, make up, set design, props and acting really brings you back in the time periods the film explores. I absolutely love the special effects and practical effects beginning to end. If Dave Filoni is considered George Lucas's successor in Star Wars then James Mangold is absolutely Steven Spielberg's successor for the Indiana Jones franchise. (Even though this is the last entry for Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones chronologically.) I don't consider this a spoiler, but for those who are worried about Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character Helena taking over the franchise can sit down and enjoy the character as an addition to the franchise and not as a break off point to a spin off series. Everyone is going to have divided opinions about her character. Her character is perfectly opposite to Indiana Jones's character as she needed to be. The way the two connect throughout the film has a lot of heart to it. There's also a character adjacent to Short Round that will make people miss Ke Huy Quan's beloved character. If anything this character makes the film watchable for children around 12 or older. Personally he really adds to a lot of fun in the movie for me. The main villain of the film wonderfully is portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen and I really didn't expect anything less. He has become my second favorite villain in the entire franchise. (It's really understandably hard to top Belloq from the first film.) It is often notable how the villain plays the opposite side of the coin of Indiana Jones in every one of the films. Both the main villain and Indiana Jones have their regrets and you can really understand their motivations. The main villains henchmen are much more memorable than most villains from the previous films. Except we always expect a larger man than Indiana Jones and the fifth film is no exception. I particularly like how the larger man against Indiana Jones in this film squares up with Indiana Jones. It really made me happy to see that Marion and Henry Jones the third were addressed in the story. How they handled them was something that made me very emotional and I'm really glad they didn't go on the route I thought of how they should do it. A lot of the extra leads definitely added my love for the additional characters that we often see from the franchise. Notably Antonio Banderas always has my heart in every role he plays. The characters who do return in the film do exactly what you would expect from the franchise in the best ways. It's no secret how much I love music in films and John Williams continues to be a master at his craft. (One day I hope to own all the soundtrack pieces of all the Indiana Jones films.) There are callbacks and Easter eggs to the other films that are done very well in the film. The way the film finishes the franchise is wonderfully done and honestly very much satisfied me as an Indiana Jones fan. I've been one all my life and I have quite the collection of video games, the original films and even the complete series of the young Indiana Jones Chronicles. For those who are apprehensive of seeing the film because the fourth film rubbed you off the wrong way, I think it's safe to say for anyone who has watched the 5th film can say this is a massive improvement for the issues fans had. I'm excited to one day add the 5th film to my collection.

Last Crusade 2. Temple of Doom 3. Dial of Destiny 4. Raiders 5. I knew Foller would survive his accident in the prologue but wish they hadn't made it so severe. I mean he surely should've died but he didn't even have a messed up face or anything. I then thought it would be explained that he actually had the real blade of Christ and that had saved him somehow. Reason I thought this was the way he looked at it and touched it. Then he looks at his case on the train when telling the nazi captain that it was a fake (so I thought he had the real 1)

Great review! I feel much like you do about it. It's a fine, fun good time! Regarding the logo fade in the opening, there actually IS a match cut, but it's a lot less overt than the Paramount mountain: the Lucasfilm logo fades into a lock on the castle that's the same shape. I also wasn’t expecting an Oscar worthy movie experience but I was expecting fun. And that’s what I got. It’s a solid 4/5. The reason being is because we had tons and tons of action sequences within the first hour then we got more by the second hour and by the time we nearing the climax I was about ready to check out but the ending with Merrian and Indy saved the film for me. I loved the big henchmen guy and I do wish Indy did take him out or at least helped but I’m fine with what we got with him. I LOVED the chases for this film these were imo some of the best chase sequences out of any Indy film. Overall I had fun but I do wish the tie to Wombat was with an already existing character or maybe even Shia Labouf’s daughter or something like that.

Not that I asked for it, but if I did, I’m not sure we could’ve gotten a better modern Indiana Jones sendoff. Its got its issues but I think its a damn good film and after rewatching all the others leading into watching this one... Temple of Doom fell a lot in my estimation. So like Alex Dial is my 3rd favourite. I think Harrison Ford's performance here is enough to put it above Crystal Skull imo. His performance in that was pretty uninteresting and he seemed bored. I love the scene between Indy and Helena on a boat which was genuinely moving, same as the final scene. It was absolutely too long. I'd cut down on the opening most of all. I really enjoyed it but it didn't really need to be that long. I would also like to point out that Indy's voice in that opening stuff, is Harrsion Ford's voice now. Sure the line delivery was a bit hit or miss. But I'd take that instead of AI generated robotic awfulness of Luke's voice in the D+ shows. I think the themes are super strong and this absolutely makes the best use of the setting and history of the era. Also they faded from the Lucasfilm logo to the lock in the opening shot.

I couldn’t argue any rating from average to good, but I did like it too My suggestions would’ve been explaining earlier what the McGuffin actually did, and what the villains motivations were earlier as his life in the 60s seemed pretty sweet; erase Teddy from history

They did fade the Lucasfilm logo into the scene. The logo turns into a lock on the door that Indy gets shoved out of.

I know you admitted the grading is silly, but I do think the logo fade happened! Pretty sure the (second?) Lucasfilm logo faded into a crate lock.

I really enjoyed the movie. However, there were a few aspects that I wished were different: Helena's character: Although I understand that Helena is meant to be similar to Indy from "The Temple of Doom," always focused on money, I would have liked to see some remorse from her when she attempted to sell an item that was dear to her father. Transformation of Rinaldo: Instead of introducing a character who shows up at the end to help the heroes (the sleepy pilot), I would have preferred to see Rinaldo portrayed as a skilled pilot who saves Indy and company. This would have allowed for potential chemistry between Rinaldo and Helena, and the possibility of a future franchise with them embarking on adventures together. I would have loved to see Antonio Banderas continue Indy's journey with Helena. Even with differnt style of adventures. Changing the ending location: Rather than returning to an apartment with annoying neighbors in America, I think it would have been more captivating to end the movie in Sicily. This would have provided a new and visually stunning setting, with Indy and Marion enjoying a beautiful panorama. It could have also given a satisfying conclusion for Sallah's character. Helena still has the diamonds from Voller, so buying a house should be possible. Casting considerations: While Phoebe Waller-Bridge portrayed Helena in a nice and elegant way, I sometimes imagine Ana de Armas and Rebecca Ferguson in the role. Additionally, I would have loved to see Banderas and the new casting together in the next installment of the franchise, embarking on their own adventures. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and appreciate James Mangold's direction, Harrison Ford's performance and the work of the cast and crew. The movie didn't feel lazy, I was hoping for that.

Not sure how you missed it but they purposely DID fade from the Lucasfilm logo into the door latch. It Was so obvious they intentionally subverted expectations and it made me chuckle. Look carefully next time you watch.

I too was a bit disappointed about not seeing the Paramount logo not fading into something. However I think the Lucasfilm logo did fade into the sliding bolt lock of the castle gates...I think. I liked the film a lot too, not loved it, but liked it. 🙂 plus, I'm a big fan of all your videos!

Yooo!!! They did fade the Lucasfilm logo in!!! They faded it into the lock to some box or something. I forget exactly what it was, but I know for a fact it was the Lucasfilm logo that faded into something at the very beginning.

I liked the movie a lot, but I'm mixed on whether I liked it as the ending of the series. For all the hate KOTCS gets (Idk why), its ending was perfect imo, and really rounded Indy's character arc. So finding out Mutt died in the war, and the family fell apart, is quite bitter. But it's great that Indy gets to live history, even though the movie makes a point of how he should appreciate the history he is actually living in the present. I guess it's a similar feeling to SW's OT ending after learning what happens in the sequels. I might like some of the newer stuff, but I still prefer Lucas' intended ending or the way he left things off. Edit: they did fade the LucasFilm logo into the lock.

I enjoyed this one less than a Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (I am surprised myself how much fun I had during my rewatch). It just feels that it’s not a Spielberg movie anymore and I didn’t get enough of a quieter character moments, but your excellent explanation of the themes made me appreciate it a bit more. I just wish we had more of that in the movie itself.

We do get a logo fade though. Not paramount to an equivalent shape. But the Lucasfilm logo fades into the rectangular lock/bolt on the door.

I found it to be very good I would recommend watching it it’s not this end all film to Indiana jones. The two prior films give better endings in my opinion but it doesn’t do anything silly or stupid and is generally another adventure with something new to bring and the callbacks are always nice and weren’t overdone definitely the best Disney Lucasfilm production I’ve seen since the studio was acquired.
