Basil’s language barrier was extremely frustrating as an audience watcher. Why did it do the things it did? Why did it stop SOL from shooting the escape ship? That’s one character I’m kind of annoyed with.

I liked Bazil too, but wasn't sure what was going on there. I did NOT get the impression that Sol was going to shoot her down _ thought it was going to be some kind of grapple or something, which was why he got so close. It makes more sense if he was going to fire, but I've had to watch episodes twice to get a lot of that - which isn't a great reflection on the storytelling.

I contend that Sol was right. Manipulating life in that manner is a dangerous dark side power, and there no way to interpret the "menacing evaporation" as anything other than a hostile act. The entire operation was thrown into disarray by Torbin's rash rush to liberate the girls and go home, a reaction ultimately caused by the witches hostile takeover of his mind. The rushed confrontation and apparent death of the entire coven made it forever impossible to figure out just what the witches were up to, so they had no good answers for either Osha or the Council. Sol was willing to reveal what little he knew to the Council, but the dogma of the Order would have condemned Osha. In the end, it was the choice between the right thing and the bylaws of the Order that destroyed Sol, led to the deaths of many Jedi, and made an already bad situation for Mae and Osha far worse.
@fernandofreitas2615
@fernandofreitas2615 Ай бұрын
Pretty confusing why the Order would've problems with Osha, Mae, or severely condemn the Jedi for some very silly, pretty contrived, emotional (despite pre disney Jedi training hard to control emotions so as to not succumb to dark side) actions (all done by males, [even supposedly balanced Sol], except for Indara's weird unnecessary coverup plan), the rest of their actions being self defense or desire to protect children from perceived immediate danger of death. Jedi actions didn't really give any serious signals they were forcibly going to take children especially when Jedi are small in number (seems to be a real strange fluke that Indara might've killed many). Is the Order supposed to treat Osha and Mae poorly b/c they're similar to Anakin? They treated Anakin well. If they wanted to coverup something then just try to coverup the girl's origins and say there were some men in the cult. How would've Osha's Jedi training changed if Order knew the full story? Would they think she was created by dark side and be more easily tempted by it? They'd then for sure give more intense anti-dark side training and warning, maybe monitor her more and try to avoid situations that might increase the chance of a turn, since Jedi know dark side causes suffering in the galaxy.

Sol died and took the info of Qimir being a sith with him, Mae had her memory wiped, no one on Coruscant heard the word sith, nobody on Coruscant thought of the sith and if they did they kept it to themselves and Vernestra thinks Qimir is just a regular dark side warrior. Sorry, what was that about Ki Adi Mundi being retconned?

Sol was accused of doing a murder a planet away while he was teaching kids on Coruscant. No one thought it was odd he murdered someone while on a different planet? Or the bar keeper left alive who saw Osha murder Trinity. I don't believe for a second that 10 jedi were murdered and just cause Vernestra says Sol did it that they are all like "okay, good enough for me" and Yoda is now either complicit or oblivious.

The way they did the flips and jumps, the use of the force, Qimir's brutality, every time it just felt like playing a more action-y version of SWTOR combat And specially combined with the outfits, Sol wearing his jedi armored gloves is way more Old than High Republic in my mind.

Am i the only one who thinks Qimir gave Sol that look when he talked about creating life because he knew Plageuis was responsible for teaching the witches how to create life? I don't think he's thinking that his master could learn from the witches (who are dead anyway), i think he's worried that Sol knows too much. It would also explain why Korill is worried about what would happen if the jedi figured out how she learned to create life, because a sith taught her. Then it could also be what Palpatine was telling anakin about.

I thought the same thing while watching. But while thinking about it afterwards, i thought it’s possible Qimir didn’t know about the manipulated creation of the twins, if his master hasn’t told him the full story either. I don’t think Qimir was involved on brendok years ago as he doesn’t look much older than the twins, so he was likely at the Jedi temple as a young padawan when they was born etc. it would be interesting if Plagueis was there on brendok when the place burnt down etc. now writing this, what if the mother with the horns was plagueis apprentice at the time? 😵 But back on topic, qimir hearing Sol could’ve been qimir realising his master plagueis must have created them and why qimir has been instructed to corrupt/train them

I liked the original trilogy and prequel Jedi that were very noble (although also complacent and unwilling to adapt to possible new threats) and generally worked hard to exerted control over their emotions so as to not succumb to the dark side. Lucas has said that to him being balanced in the Force means there is little/no dark side.
@jordanwhite352
@jordanwhite352 Ай бұрын
First of all, prequel Jedi were never Noble. That was literally the whole point of the prequels. And that's one of the things I love about. The show is we're seeing the beginning stages of how they completely lost their way and became corrupt during the prequel era which set up their own downfall. Second of all, we have to remind ourselves that which is something I wish was more explored. More that when we see the Jedi in the original trilogy we see it through Luke's eyes. Luke's eyes is that he grew up with Obi-Wan kenobian saw him as an extended good uncle, which means he completely excused all the bad stuff that Obi-Wan did during the prequels. He also was fed's stories and saw only one side of the picture and thus that's why he could redeem his father. It was more through naivete and it was more his father's choice than his choice. Very apparent in the sequels which is an aspect that I like about them, which is that Luke's job was to bring his dad to the light to bring ballards to the force. His job was not to bring back the Jedi border again because as the definition of insane he goes his doing the same thing multiple times in thinking you'll get different results. He literally tried to bring back the Jedi Order of old, not realizing how entirely flawed they originally were which then caused his own downfall and that's why he's so bitter in the last Jedi finally saying the quiet part, all the fans said about loud about how terrible the old Jedi were, except he learned that lesson way too late. Why? I'm really interested in praying for that Ray sequel interval because it should be really interesting to see how a Jedi should be instead of the way they previously were. I think a huge part of it is actually listening to the force and obeying the will of the force and thus the will of the people. Because once you start doing things for your own perceptions like trying to label things good and evil. Based on how you see it, you inevitably pave your way for your own downfall. I mean think about it. Everyone loves Han Solo but to most of the Galaxy and also in the beginning Han Solo was just a lowly scum criminal who worked for one of the worst awful criminal organizations and not only just the cartel but the direct head of the cartel, it's like literally being the second-hand man to Vladimir Putin. Course we know he's done a lot of extremely good deeds especially later on in his life. But the fact of the matter is that if we judged Hannah at face value, kind of like what we did in A New Hope, we would have just thought he was some scoundrel and that's kind of the whole point of how the Jedi became corrupted. They were more about their order instead of being a Jedi. Kind of like a difference between Christians who just know a couple of Bible verses and then follow what their politicians and preachers say instead of a Christian who actually is trying to be like Christ and is trying to follow his teachings and his messages of love and insight. Again this is why I hope if they do it smartly we're going to see this in the Ray movie but Lucas film has screwed up before so.

So my thoughts on the Acolyte: I am glad the High Republic era finally got to come life outside of the books. I know a game is being made but we have no real estimate as to when it’ll be released. I thought characters like Sol, Mae, Osha, Qimir and Jecki were interesting. Especially Qimir and Osha; one being a Jedi murdering menace and the other becoming the real acolyte. I very much approve of the martial arts and lightsaber duels employed as many bemoaned the sequels for lacking the umpf of those saber battles. That being said, there is a lack of true focus on the sith here. The focus on the jedi and their mistakes siphons too much of the momentum. They had something going with Mae targeting the Jedi responsible for the loss of her home. But we don’t get to see how she met Qimir, her thoughts about him (or rather his mask persona). We don’t even get a vision or flashback as to how Qimir slipped into the darkside. Overall, the series to me isn’t as terrible as people made it, but it definitely needed more here. Two or three more episodes might’ve fixed some of the issues here. If this storyline gets continued, I’m not betting on a season 2. More likely a one off comic.
@bobjenko
@bobjenko Ай бұрын
I think you were expecting too much, especially re: flashback on why Qimir fell. This season wasn't about that, it was about Brendok and the fallout for what happened there. I think it's wise to delay telling the audience how Mae and Qimir found each other until the next season, same as with why and how Qimir turned bad. There's definitely a set up for both for a season 2. With the Qimir-Mae linkup, juxtapose him finding her in the past with him training Mae's sister in the present. And given the Padawan setup with Vernestra, it makes sense putting what happened with Qimir in the next season too because it seems like she's our new main Jedi in the show and that could be our next main mystery.

Like the mutant brother and sister in Gifted. When holding hands their powers are like an omega mutant. For the twins, they can have a cool gimmick. One sister can be blinded and the other lose their hearing. But together they have their full senses through each other and the force. Learning to fight perfectly together and respond to the battlefield off of each other. Lastly, when they are holding hands their control of the force is near Anakin level. As we saw, his helmet clearly takes damage when it shorts out a lightsaber. Qimir also may have suspected Sol would use Dark Side tactics like turning your lightsaber on and off to stab somebody, which is 1. something Qimir would do and 2. a move that would completely ignore the cortosis helmet.

She meets her sister's master who encouraged her to join the dark side, and she's ready to strike him...until he is naked outside and starts just..talking to her? Then she immediately kills her former master, after spending less than a day with Qimir? I know he's got nice forearms but my god, girl, get up! Your entire established personality is ruined within the first few sentences exchanged between you and this man?? Who you watched just murder your former friends/jedi colleagues?? Osha, the established calm and collected one, never let's Sol speak? Because he quite literally defended himself, and her mother and be cult was manipulating their minds and did so twice. He feels such a connection to her, such a bond that he does kill her mother in the process of stubbornly trying to train her, but when she TRULY needs his guidance, he just...let's her choke him to death? Mae also just kills the other Jedi in pursuit of Sol, but when she gets to him finally and can now kill him, she just wants him to testify in court? She didn't want the others to do that? The amount of inconsistencies within character motives and abilities is INSANE.

It's in the book, yes, but that's not part of the canon and the only other mention that I know of it Palpatine telling Anakin about him. It's possible that Plagueis is Qimir's master and Qimir (or Osha) is the one who ends up training Palpatine and he hears the story from them.f I don't know if they will do this, but they might if they want to keep viewers guessing about what will or won't happen. Remember that we all thought Yord and Jecky had plot armor going into the fight with Qimir.

You questioning Sol's motivations on the ship in the asteroid field sums up my feelings on the episode as a whole. Too many times I was taken out of the episode to question characters' motivations, and it all just felt really jarring and clunky. I didn't really have any problems with the for the first 7 episodes aside from maybe some questions about Mae's behavior, but in this episode I found I couldn't really figure out what ANY of the characters really wanted. None of the emotional bits landed for me. For that reason the finale was probably my least favorite of the 8 episodes. Still lots of stuff to enjoy though. Combat was top notch once again, and I also really enjoyed the Senate scenes. Overall I enjoyed the series. Great concepts, some spotty execution, but overall a positive addition to the franchise.

Loved the duel between Sol and Qimir, and the Plagueis tease was great, but I’m just really struggling with the Osha turn to the dark side / Sol guilt. When he killed mother Aniseya, she was turning into some sort of smoke monster from his perspective and he saw who he thought was child Osha disappearing as well. Osha brutally murdering him comes across as an unambiguously evil and unjustified act, but it seems like the show expects us to sympathize with her, considering the emotional Osha/Mae goodbye scene. I’m happy for folks who enjoyed it, but it all just left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I am glad somebody else noticed weird looking lightsabers. But honestly the show is for me 5-6/10 at best. It has some high hights and some very very low lows. My main problem is that the show simply lacks the run time to properly execute all things it set up, and it’s therefore very rushed. (Like why is HOD able to produce 10 1h long episodes with 200mil while Acolyte only 8 30-40 minute episodes with 180, and don’t blame it on effects, they are not better than in HOD….). Maybe I interpret to much but I think the show subtly tries to suggest that Sol is also slowly turning to the dark side or at least losing control over his emotions. Deep down he knew all along that is actions were wrong but he lied to himself for 16 years and belived his own lies in the end. However, his negative emotions were never really solved just supressed so I think when Mae forced him to admit the truth, his false reality finally shattered and that in this moment he was consumed by his surpressed negative emotions. I don't believe he really thought about it in this moment, maybe a little bit like when Anikin slaughtered the men that killed his mother.

I still feel conflicted about this series, but now it's all out I'll binge watch it and see if I feel more positive about it especially as I found certain episodes were better on second viewing. They probably done 'just enough' to get me invested in another season especially with the cameo of Plagueis and me wanting to know more with this series supposedly meant to be a Sith-centric story. I have previously compared The Acolyte to Rings of Power - storyline rather predictable, bizarre decision-making from the writers, frustrating, played too safe at times, struggling to connect with majority of the characters, and questioning where have they spent all that money? Overall my general feeling is this was just 'ok' but massive room for improvement. I wouldn't be disappointed if they decided not to do another, but if they are committed to doing another, the powers-that-be really need to review whether they have the absolute best people creating this show because right now it feels like wasted potential. Sorry, this comment sounds far more negative than originally intended as I try to be a positive type of person when it comes to Star Wars.
