The Non-Canon Expert explains an assassination plot against Emperor Palpatine that was attempted by those highest in the Imperial Order, including Grand Moffs, a Moff, a General, and Assassin. He also explains how this assassination was savagely put down by Palpatine within his own Throne Room on Coruscant.
This is a Legends story for Palpatine found within Issues #1-4 of the 2002-2003 comic entitled "Star Wars: Empire: Betrayal". I hope that you enjoy it!

@@acrux1918 Mace Windu during his duel with the sith lord used the force to discover Sidious shatterpoint, Anakin is Palpatine's shatterpoint his weakness and the only that could kill him. Eventually Sidious proved to be prepared for everything using the sith ritual know as transfer essense to cheat death, overcoming that weakness.

@@ItsButterBean1020 You're right he didn't know he was a sith but his plot was discovered and if Palpatine had no sith powers he would have just had more royal guards who would easily wipe the floor with his batch of clones. Their plan wasn't even that great because even if they killed and took over anyone loyal to the emperor would come to kill them and fight the empire. They know who Vader is which means they know what they'll have to face afterwards. Their plan was even worse when you realize they already killed all their allies in the empire. They killed half their support in the empire trying to take it over.

I believe the Emperor knew full well that this plot was happening. He just let it happen. All to make an example of those who survived. After all. It is kind of strange how they just turned on each other before they killed the Emperor. I mean I knew they would kill one another but to start doing that BEFORE they went through the plan? Yeah. The Emerpor knew full well and was twisting them indirectly through the Force. It is a very Sith thing to do.

Sadly, I'd have to say it's a "human" thing to do. "Oh, but WHEN we win, he'll get the better part of the cake..." "But, if he died DURING the fight, there'd be more cake for me..." "But he'll be on high alert during the fight: I can arrange an accident a couple months before it, and handle it all myself with what he'd already prepared. It'll also keep him from murdering me one week before the fight." This chain of thought, when we incorporate cold strategy, political allies and a will to kill to get one's way (pretty much every armed incident and coup would count) is likely to happen- both in fiction and real life.

@@bragnir Well, I know but any "sane" plotting person would rather plot AFTER or even DURING the little assassination. All to cause something to happen. After all. If they gun themselves down. They hurt themselves. That is my thinking. Though this group is ambitious as hell and all hated each other to some degree. So of course it was bound to happen. What happens when Lawful Evil works together. Someone gets stabbed in the back. In some legal fashion.

There is an awesome exchange between Vader and Palpatine at the end of this arc where Palpatine basically intimates to Vader that there is very little happening in the galaxy that he doesn't already know about. This plot certainly fell into that category. Thank you for watching Matt!

Perhaps we have all these conspirators to thank for Palpatine's fall. Maybe after so many failed attempts at killing him, he became overconfident. His overconfidence in his abilities and the loyalty of Vader saw him dead.

This is why Palpatine conceals his true power. If it was widely known that he was a super powerful Sith lord, people plotting to assassinate him would not march into his throne room to confront him, instead they would barrage his palace from orbit with heavy turbolasers, dialed up to thermonuclear yields. But by concealing his power, and presenting the image of a frail and broken old man, he draws his enemies in, and then destroys them with the full power of the Dark Side.

the music really goes well with this one. Its calm but allows your voice to be heard and moves up to the climax of the storie. Very good. For me this type of music goes good with someone telling the storie of a comic while the observer sees the comic panels. It some how deepens the storie. Carry on.

I love these comics. Trachta is a great character, loved him in Ghost Prison too, loved that story overall. I really feel that in these smaller unconnected arcs, EU comics were at their best. Another one I liked that comes to mind is the one with Tarkin's son.

Without context it looks like he reacted to an assassination by killing everyone. Not necessarily his own attempted assassination. But just an assassination.
