In this video, we discuss the basic definitions of--and differences between--state functions (like internal energy and enthalpy) and path functions (like heat and work). A state function is a property whose value depends only on the current state of a system, not how the system arrived at that state. Path functions, however, do depend on the path taken to get to the current state of a system.
