as someone who doesn’t love set reviews but appreciates them, this is the best north 100 episode i’ve watched in a hot sec, genuinely top tier showdowns are also very entertaining! keep up the good work and don’t feel pressure to commit to these weekly or whatever, just keep making content you enjoy because that’s what we’re all here for

A fun non set review podcast might be something about "how to craft a highlander deck" Some commander podcasts do it where they outline how many ramp, card draw, Removal spells etc. Maybe it would be nice to see a generic overview about how to build a highlander deck in 2024

I think part of the reason this would be difficult is the shear variety of decks. I feel like trying to make a generic canlander decktec would be like trying to make a generic modern or legacy decktec, every single deck has a totally different play pattern, gameplan, and the way your deck is constructed is suuuuuper dependent on that. I think that maybe they could do ones for specific deck archetypes but overall I think it would prove really difficult.

I work at an LGS in the states, and we host a weekly rotating constructed tournament. The fourth Saturday of every month is CanLander night.

YEeaaahhhh the boiiis are back and they came out swinging! All the old fan-favorites are here: underplayed cards, the state of the format, old men shouting at clouds and of course magic of a unusual high powerlevel. Now since my prayers are apparently being overheared; I'll have a CanLander tournament at the moonbase with a commentary-team please :) Also Red&Taxes on N100 Showdown when? lately i've been playing a lot of a niche discord edh format that wants to be competitive but several turns slower than cedh and being a day 1 listener of this podcast has been key to making me a top combo player, so thank you everyone who has ever appeared on an episode of North 100

I think sentiment plays such a big role when brewing or editing lists.. like I felt hit with the stormbreath dragon. "But this foil is so pretty".. and then you replace it with some baldie with a hamster

I think the pointing of Forth Eorlingas is a good step, and I would personally like the points list to adapt to a world where the average threat is much more powerful than the past. If the list is supposed to help foster diversity, pointing tutors and gonzo blue cards can't be the only thing pointed, the points list need to have a lot more 1 point cards that might be "just a good card" like Eorlingas but when none of them are pointed they just all go in the same deck, consolidating the format. Basically, take every card printed since Oko that makes you sigh when its name is brought up, make it 1 point, and suddenly you see more diversity in games, since Recall can't draw 3 initiative cards and Minsc while Hullbreacher is on the field. Those need to come at the expense of others in their category.

Please consider starting the discussion of taking Yawgmoth's will off the points list. Underworld breach makes it obsolete as a better option in most decks as is, and allowing lotus + yawg will + DT would diversify storm into 2 separate decks. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for the storm decks of 2017-18 but I think those decks haven't gotten many new toys and 4c midrange decks have gotten dozens of answers. I think the points list changes have been great recently and I think inviting a breach-less storm deck into the format would be healthy.

A new episode including "The best card you're not playing"!!! I even sleeved up an Aarakocra Sneak some minutes ago for testing a 5c intiative build! Not that I don't enjoy the set reviews, it's honestly the best way to get a prefiltered view on relevant singleton cards in the torrent that is the Wotc release cycle these days.

Been watching since the inception but in the last year i now joined a friend group of locals played canlander so now im in the format... Even came 2nd in our playgroup tournament (RWg equipment) yes Forth eorlingas is busted

The Broadside Bombardiers conversation was really funny to me. Like, y'all watched/played any Legacy recently? This plus "Name Sticker" Goblin has made Goblins a threat, and Red Stompy loves it too. Also please add Urza's Saga to the points list and honestly just throw all the Initiative cards in the bin and ban them outright. I know that's not the Canlander philosophy, but the more formats that are free from that stupid mechanic, the better.

Long time listener/viewer/mtg enthusiast. One of my favourite episodes of the podcast was having Allison on to talk about The Rock as a deck archetype; Perhaps that’s a format you could revisit? Pick a deck archetype, have a guest or one of yourself in the hot seat and just talk about the deck. Top cards, niche inclusions, pet cards, variants and colour splashes etc I know I’d love to listen to wheeler talk eggs for two hours- and that’s no yolk 🥚 … I’m sorry.
