This was the first State Opening of a Labour government's first parliamentary year in 1997. It occurred on Wednesday 14th May 1997 after the whopping victory of Labour over the Conservatives at the 1st May 1997 election. Tony Blair's Labour won with a whopping 179 seat majority in the House of Commons.

@@musiclive3635 It happened in 2001 and 2005, and Blair won a 60 plus seat majority even in 2005 after the disaster that was the Iraq War, so never count anything out.

@@johnking5174 you definitely can count it out when you have fools like starmer and corbyn who have been running the party, and thanks to public shift in opinion since brexit torys are way more popular as shown in last local election with nearly 200 council seats lost from labour too torys
