Have you got much experience with Static Grass Applicators? How do you find them as a tool? If you enjoyed the video, do make sure to check Ciara out on twitch at www.twitch.tv/ciara_elvenblood 😎

tbh most of the time you can get a better result by blowing on it to impart static charges to each blade of grass. High-strength flock boxes seem to be more effective than applicators

I’ve used static grass on a couple of projects. I generally run bright 2 mill then medium 4 or 6 mill then a brownish 8 or 12 mill. The other trick is i use a small keyboard vac with a nylon stocking over the tip of the hose while the glue is still wet to help the grass stand and suck up any that isn’t securely in the glue. If you suck any extra grass up after each bit is put down you can re-use the grass for your next project.

Great video, Ciara's process of working out how do do something is pretty much most peoples internal conversation. i think thats why these videos are so popular. Must try this oout as it does look cool, despite the mess :)

Dear Ciara! Top tip just for u!! When u doing the tufts on baking paper, do small lil dots of glue, but under the baking paper put a damp piece of paper towel, it will help make the base conductive for the static grass to stand up! Love u lots! From JakeDogg 🥰🐶❤️💐

Having seen Luke make a load of grass for his 24 hour build I was fascinated by the process. "I don't think you could kill yourself with this . . ." "I'm so scared" The suspense, this is great!

Tip for Olly and Ciara: Have a small length of copper or aluminum wire (about 2" to 3" long and either 16, 18, 20 or 22 gauge) clipped into the teeth of that alligator clip. Touch that wire into the glue/adhesive, so that the low voltage current is now traveling from the wire into the glue/adhesive then through the grass and back the metal mesh on the static grass applicator. This very low voltage circuit which is created is how the static grass ends up standing up. Also do not worry about being shocked because this is again very low voltage. In the case of the applicator which you are using, only being battery operated you'll not even feel any even if it was to short out. Even if you were using a wall plugin applicator, most likely the plus itself is a step down transformer and converter (the step down transformer is lowering the voltage from a high voltage to a low voltage. The converter is converting the current from AC to DC) so again you should have nothing to worry about. If you like to better see what I'm talking about for a wire and it being used you may want to checkout the Luke Towan channel. He makes some of the most amazing dioramas and in most of them he is using a static grass applicator at some point in the build.

yeah I've seen people get really long grass with one of these. I had totally forgot about them TBH, I kept meaning to get one off a fella on eBay, but they were like 150 quid (at least) hopefully they are cheaper now, as that was in like 2014 when I last wanted to buy one.
@Winterydee

@@D00M3R_MAVS I believe that if you can do some simple soldering that there are videos on KZfaq as to how to make a Static Grass Applicator for pretty cheap. 150 pounds is freaking crazy expensive! Here in the States they list on places like Amazon for about $70 to $90. So that should be about 50 to 70 pounds off of my rough currency conversion in my head if you live in the UK. I would check out Amazon UK personally to see what they are listening for there compare that to your local game and hobby stores. I always promote buying from your local stores first because here in the States those are the places where you'll be able to play your games with out having to build your own gaming table and have room for it. Along with finding others to play with/against.

@@Winterydee They likely have came down in cost now I would think. I was last going to buy one in around 2014. They were an incredibly niche product back then. Mostly model train enthusiast bought them, and people that made tufts to sell in small shops. I'll have to check out the "flock it" and see how much it goes for. I can solder, but haven't soldered anything since the mid 90's. I did electronics at school so I made my own circuit boards and stuff like that.

If the batteries were supplying 120mA at 50Hz, you'd be dead. Since they output far less, the only bit you need to be scared of, is squeezing your fingers with the clamp...

I'd lick it for a laugh. I grabbed an electric fence in the rain once, wasn't pleasant. I still get pains in my chest from it to this day. It was a total accident though, I didn't meant to grab the electric fence. It was there to protect some horses I think, and I didn't know it was electrified. The fact my hand was soaking wet did not help at all. hahaha.

7:37 - 2mm static grass and 6mm static grass does not equal 8mm static grass... what an insane proposal?! 6mm and 2mm will result in 6mm and 2mm grass, they aren't going to attach ends to become longer!?!
@BroadswordWargaming
@BroadswordWargaming 10 ай бұрын
You can probably chill a little there. You absolutely can layer static grass. It's not "4mm + 2mm = 6mm", as such, but starting with a 2mm base and layering longer grasses onto will give you taller patches on top of the 2mm. You do need to apply glue in between (something like WWS layering glue) and go from there, as grass won't stick to grass. I was shown and taught by Geek Gaming. Guess it's a play a figure it out kind of thing.
