While I appreciate the video, it's just explaining what an IP address is and how dhcp works. There was no information given about the pros and cons of static vs dynamic and why someone would choose one over the other. The video could maybe use a more accurate title.

Great video, very clear and informative. I have been wanting to buy wifi with a dynamic IP address, but I've ran into companies that only allocate these for businesses with a lot of adjoining requirements, is there a viable solution for me, thanks?

Don't you mean you want a static IP address? A dynamic IP is what your Service Provider sells you by default. Dynamic IP's change. Static IP's do not change and they are usually a feature 99% of providers will SELL you at a price. By default Service Providers dont sell you a Static connection in other words. You usually will have to ask for one. However, there are workarounds with decent VPN's and other means of setting up a Static IP address by configuring the settings yourself or, Have a tech come out and do it for you.

@@Top-Jimmy thank you! And I'm digging the VH ref. The legal gambling sites use geotracking software, that doesn't allow for VPN's, are you aware of any other possible workarounds? thanks

question :if i assigned a static ip to my device, then how will it use wifi network at various locations to get connected to internet ? I mean the first two chunks of ipv4 are network address. so how will it be directed to the current network in which my device is in ?

dynamic, if you get booted you can restart your router and get a new IP. if you have a static IP and someone boots you, youre SOL

i have many devices connected to my router. Then i connected a switch and 2 repeaters. Some devices will connect but i has no internet feed. i suspect my router struggles to assign dynamic ip to my several devices. I configure my no internet devices to static ip and it solves the problem. Was my suspicious correct? Thank buddy

Not 100% sure but this is the solution that worked for my s23 Ultra on my wifi network

I can’t be entirely sure of your error however I suspect that your network is assigning the same dynamic ip to multiple devices. Without being there in person I cannot trouble shoot further however experiment until you find the issue. Maybe try disconnecting the repeaters to see if they are the issue.

What exactly is he saying in simple terms? Is he saying of you have a router in say the UK, with a static IP, it can be re routed to the US just like a VPN does?

I dislike this video as dynamic vs static can not be explained in 5 minutes. So I will attempt to simplify it. We have ran out of ip addresses. If we assigned a unique ip to each computer then we would have to start reusing them. As a solution nat was invented. This is a system in which a router would hold a single ip address and every computer on a network would use it. However on a local setting within the network devices still needed ip addresses. So they would be assigned an ip address local to the network. There are two types of these local IP addresses static and dynamic. Static always remains the same which can be helpful for things like tempting into a pc. Where as dynamic just counted up adding a signal 1 to each new device on a network. So creating a static ip address would effect nothing for the average person and definitely not act as another ip. Good question though. It’s a lot to put into a single comment so don’t feel dumb just blame this dude for trying to teach in the wrong order.

You better use static ip, the dynamic wont let you to play with your friends in some games

Both is up to you, you can port forward or you can get static which isp will charge more, if you get restricted access or strict info on it change port settings from your device first then your router

Naaa u do not, just find a way to allocate an ip address from your isp router, you can reserve a dynamic ip address to your mac address so it does not change (unless you factory reset the router ) statics are mainly for remote access besides u assign ports or opening ports for your device
