For seven Saturdays this summer of 2019, GWR are running a shuttle service between Taunton to Bishops Lydeard - meaning it's station number 2,567 .. right? Or not?!
We went to down to tick it off, and then ride the brilliant West Somerset Railway all the way to Minehead, and Vicki find a castle too!
The Saturday GWR service is running on: July 27th, August 3rd, August 17th, August 31st, September 7th, September 21st and October 5th.
Paul & Rebecca at the end are of course from Whitewick's Abandoned Railways - they'd love it if you gave their KZfaq channel a subscribe : / @pwhitewick
Follow JackAllStation at @jackallstations
Follow Stuart Every Station at @every_station
We also need to meet Paul one day who also has been to all the stations in Britain, you can follow him at @trainstationsuk

I was born in Minehead in 1947 and lived in the area until I was about 12. The Minehead branch (as it was in those days, part of BR Western Region) was my childhood railway and I used to love the journey into Taunton and back. Friends of my parents (a local auctioneer & his wife) looked after me after I had been very ill and my parents were both very ill and organised a visit to Blue Anchor signal box for me. Even in those days I was an anxious traveller and turned down the opportunity to close the level crossing gates, using the big wheel in the box, fearing that the train back to Minehead would leave without me! I'm so glad that the WSR is such a beautifully run and cared-for heritage line now. Let's hope the Taunton connection continues as a regular thing - it could take traffic off the Taunton-Minehead road!

About 55 years ago my family (mum, dad, 5 boys and a girl) had a holiday in the camping coach at Stogumber Station - then, until the early 70s, we stayed in 2 chalets at Helwell Bay, Watchet. We loved the railway! They used to have through trains from the main line at Taunton to Butlins at Minehead and we’d wave to the train from the camping coach windows - once with our feet I remember! Incidentally, a scene rom the Beatles film A Hard Day’s Night was shot on one station - Crowcombe I think!!

I use to Marshall there n 2016, hd lots of fun but it was cut short due to my anxiety. everyone working there was super helpful and understood what to do when I had a panic attack. lots of Train enthusiasts came super early to take pictures and to be honest I was proven wrong at what train enthusiasts look like, there were men and women my age, older, my parents age and I was really shocked. Since I was very young I have had an interest in Railway Accidents and have visited done of the older sites (over 20 years must have passed). For a while in the 70s I worked at Harrow and Wealdstone where the ghastly accident happened in 1952. At the time some of the chaps on the station were there in 1952 and chatted to me about it. The station even after twenty or so years still carried scars......I note that you mentioned Norton Fitzwarren near Taunton which was the scene of two accidents in 1940 and 1890. Also the 1978 train fire was not far away . It is unthinkable that disasters such as these could have occured do close together. It makes me very happy that safety standards on our railways are so good that we rarely have serious accidents . ....I loved this video as I have childhood memories of the area ......thanks guys .....

Hi Geoff & Vicki, I love All the Stations! Okehampton is included in the ORR statistics and it's similar to Bishops Lydeard in that it serves a non-NR heritage railway station on summer Sundays only. So I think you are justified in adding Bishops Lydeard to the total.

Lovely trip down memory lane. Although I now live in Australia I grew up nearby in Somerset and have been on that line a few times. My parents were some of the original shareholders when it was first formed back in the 1970's (suspect my mum still has them actually!) so they got a few free tickets each year. Spent many happy times at the Butlins camp in Minehead as a kid too. The WSR have always wanted to get a direct connection from Taunton - delighted to see it finally happen and hopefully that will become permanent. Haven't been to Dunster for many years but I believe it also had a tower that poked up out of the trees which many people mistook for part of the castle. Beautiful part of the world.

We went on this line last month - sadly, only between Blue Anchor and Washford, as we wanted to visit Cleeve Abbey, which is about 10 minutes' walk from the latter station (and well worth visiting, Vicki, if you're reading this). A lovely line, and would like to visit more of it one day.

We were in the tea room when you train left as we were going in the other direction on the GWR service to Norton Fitzwarren for the steam rally. Shame to have missed you but looks like you had an excellent day. The West Somerset Railway is lovely and we went to Dunster and its Castle the day before Vicki. If you love the attention to detail of the carriages and stations, you'd love the Severn Valley Railway (not far from Worcestershire Parkway). I haven't yet visited all their stations. There's one request stop I've never done!

As a resident of Minehead (but not a local) I would welcome a daily service from Taunton. It'd solve a lot of problems, and skip round the ever present threat of the A39/A358 flooding everytime someone sneezes. Although I have to stay loyal to my own heritage railway, the North Yorks' Moors.

Hi Geoff and Vicki, The next heritage railway you should visit is the watercress line because South Western Railway have a station there and that is Alton and Alton is the northern terminus of the watercress line and i will think you two would love it! It has a dining train and lovely train (some with compartments) and they have 6 working steam locos and 3 working diesel locos.

At 10:56 a station announcement saying "all change" would have been most appropriate! Having watched many of Geoff's and also paul's videos, I didn't notice the change of presenters, although I noticed something seemed different, wasn't sure what until Geoff and Vicki reappeared!

When he said “we’ve got the vice chairman” I heard, “we’ve got the West German” and you were both so enthusiastic I was wondering what I’d missed in the last episode and Global politics over the weekend.
