Finally programming and automation, one of the best aspects of the Stationeers experience!
- Automatic cooling via Counterflow Heat Exchanger
- Station overpressure protection via automatic door
- Wind speed display as number and graphical chart incl. scale hack
- Summary display of all 4 Station Batteries (progress bar and number)
- Automatic turning-on of Station Batteries (power switch was blocked)
- Setting of Ice Crusher to NOT heat the ice first with 1000 watts
- Automatic grow light for the plants
- Automatic lights
- Automatic beacon for when you're out mining
- Stacker turning on/off when you're near
- Arc Furnace automated (like before, but with code instead of chips)

Your videos are the best. Maybe I'll buy the game

Many thanks! - Even if it isn't something yet compatible with one's taste, its uniqueness and sophistication surely make it at least a collector's item.

Just reached the moment in the episode 2:33:30, you are in hunger and made some beacons, it was a good laugh 😂, the game is great! Yes i got the game 🎉

xD Didn't even realize that. Should have gone for the eggs (were in the Lander) right after. - Congrats on a great choice, welcome aboard! And if you find Stationeers hard at the moment: They are JUST NOW changing the starting conditions, on Beta you now have TWO LANDERS on most worlds with lots more gear to play with!

I'm searching for a game to practice reliability approaches in engineering. So my question is: random failures, cascading failures, self-diagnosis info, repair bots. Are they in the game? Are they planned? Could they be modded in?

AIMEe is only a mining bot, I think. Never touched it, and that's just an oversight, still gotta do that. I have no knowledge about "binary modding", which some people do and achieve very interesting things, but my take is that modding something as complex as robots in, that could navigate and interact with the world, is beyond that - but again, I don't know. Random failures: No, not random. Only emergent from simulation, which doesn't have something like "pipe age" or rust, which could amount to random failure. However, you'll be standing in your base and will all of a sudden hear a pipe creak, because it's taking damage, then you run over to the furnace that you had forgotten to empty (or whose gasses/heat you wanted to keep around), whose temperature is now down far enough that the remaining high pressure caused some gases to condense, and gas pipes are allergic to liquids in Stationeers - a gameplay choice that I do not object to, it's interesting, but some others dislike the gas/liquid pipe distinction. Or a battery died, so the airlock now has no power, which is why "we all" have an APC (switch with buffer battery) in there - which is an engineering reliability approach. Maybe there was cable burnout because the load grew too much and you didn't protect with a fuse (focused burnout) or transformer (brownout instead of burnout). Or your plants died because the station now has -50°C because your custom cooling solution started running - but didn't stop because an error was introduced in the source code during that time, by code change or by changing the cable network so a required device is no longer there, which means that a reliability approach could be to separate out vital things instead of conveniently lumping them all together. Cascading failures can surely happen - see plant example. It's emergent. Depends on what you built. Self-diagnosis info: All devices have logic values that you can read or write, and you can also install pipe analyzers and gas sensors, so you could react to liquids in pipes building, or to pollutant or fire in the room, could program all that behavior freely in Stationeers' assembly language, etc. - In my playthrough yesterday, I expanded my furnace pipe before the valve (the part that stays under pressure until I vent) to reach outside the station - and slapped a Passive Liquid Drain on it, so if liquids would build, they'd automatically vent to the outside. That sounds exactly like the kind of thing you're looking for, I think. I don't know about reliability approaches in engineering, but I guess that you could find what you seek in this game.

@@OwnerOfTheCosmos Thank you for your answer. It looks like the game has most of what I need. My guess is that if a game has the right kind of failures modelled at all, random failures can be modded in with relative ease. Depends on the game though. Worth checking out.

@@user-mf3oc6mj5l The game is heavily moddable, but depending on what you want to achieve, you'll also have to go either a few centimeters or miles. Here's the very capable Stationeers Discord modding community: discord.com/channels/276525882049429515/412447900120121344

Why didn’t you insulate the furnace in a frame, vacuum wall box or better yet leave it outside. The solar radiance with your glass walls will heat up ur hab

Took me a long time to find out that the furnace is a total heat bleeder, so I haven't yet experimented with insulation approaches. What I try to avoid is cheesing (except the occasional reach through a window :P), and some insulation possibilities just exploit the imperfection of the simulation, plus I try to not look around how other people are doing things, since the learning/experimentation aspect of Stationeers is ultra valuable ... and can't be had again. TL;DR: I didn't yet experiment enough to develop furnace insulation, let alone making it a routine that would fit with my early-game frantic station building. The furnace is inside to heat the room. Of course, now that the room is no longer -140°C, I could move the furnace outside. I would have to insulate it though. And I would have to go outside. And I would have to consider storms (ingots dropping). And there could be an emergency that requires a lot of re-heating (I've had that on the Moon actually, where I could then reuse the furnace, whose purpose had been CO2 production for the greenhouse, to save the plants' life by quickly creating heat; the accident had been that my custom cooling had been turned on while I was doing some destructive editing, and I realized too late). I assume you haven't yet seen the automatic cooling solution in action that's in this video. The moment that kicks in ... the furnace is no longer an issue, it just doesn't matter any more. But UNTIL then, I am really in trouble, as shown in the video. And that makes the experience of powerful cooling automation that much more awesome.
