This video is pretty clear on how to do it, but I just wanted to clear a few things up for those who still don't understand what they need to do. The red and black wires are both live wires and are interchangeable. The white wire is neutral. If you noticed on the dryer, the two screws on the outside are brass and the one in the middle is silver. The two brass ones are live and silver is neutral. On a 4-wire plug, the red and black are live and are interchangeable. It doesn't matter which side the red or black wires goes on as long as they're on the brass. The white neutral wire must always be on the silver screw. The ground wire goes directly to the bare metal frame of the dryer. That white wire attached to the metal frame branches off of the neutral wire, so remove it and attach it with the neutral and put the grounding wire in its place. If you have a 3-wire setup, keep the white grounding wire in place. The two outermost wires are live wires and are interchangeable with either brass screw. The middle is neutral and must always be on the silver screw.

@@StatUpBox I have a question, I just removed a 4 lead cable from my old dryer. The new one comes in the am. The one I removed had the red on the right, the green and white were together in the middle. The black is on the left and the green ground was untouched from the factory. It then just said to attach the other two wires to the two outer connectors. There was a black plastic cover at the bottom of the top wires so I assumed they were all black. Because of you I looked up in there with a flashlight and sure enough I had the wires crossed. Thanks for the save bro!

For a 3 prong dryer cord in an older house, you need to connect the white wire from the dryer to the neutral (middle) port and connect the ground ( separate) wire from your house wall to the green nut (where you removed the white wire)

So my friend is a master electrician, and my dryer had a green wire permanently attached where the white wire was in this video (grounded to the metal body). I showed him this video and he said because my dryer has a green wire in the spot where this guys is a white wire, you just simply attach both green wires together. If your setup is like mine, DO NOT attach the green wire to the middle white wire as he did here in this video. Again my buddy is a master electrician (highest level electrician there is) and obviously there are some dryers that are wired slightly differently. Basically never mix any colors of wires!
