Thanks, I completely agree :) I obviously want to get it done rather sooner than later myself too, but rushing things seems like a really bad idea. Thinking of every way things could go wrong is a big part of it, but if you can think of it before it actually happens and then prevent it that's worth a little extra time :)

I want to add my four cents to the equation. Will be willing to say that if you made the rods and pistons from titanium you would really be amazed on the performance. Used the same idea to make a chainsaw cut like butter with a two stroke two bore engine. The RPM were just about double and the crank was able to take the jam. The rev factor was unbelievable and it cut like a hot saw without the crazy price too. I know their is a difference in two cylinder to four but would bet that would really make this crazy fast for sure.

When measuring crank clearance use "plastic gauge" and bolt the cases together place the at 90 degrees offsets to get it more equal plus you will get an better indication to where it is in the cases? It's just an idea, it is what I would try anyway. Love the build it will be a beast if you can get it to last, can't wait to see it screaming 🏁👍🍺
@Hollaendaren
@Hollaendaren 5 жыл бұрын
Ahh, I forgot about those. I would need a slightly undersized shaft though, or something, because the bearing journals are slightly undersized, like 61.98. So I'd need to put in a shaft that is maybe 61.9ish while measuring to not crush everything to 0 or the case bending to the straightness of the shaft. How much force is needed to compress those? Like would it work if I pressed down a shaft on them by hand?

Use electrical solder to check the journal clearances, put it between your ground bar and casing bolt it up then unbolt and measure the squashed solder with vernier calipers or micrometer. And don't forget to check the conrod's don't come into contact with the crank case opening, bottom of the bores or piston skirts if your using a crank with a longer throw. But you probably already know this if you have built a stroker before.
@Hollaendaren
@Hollaendaren 5 жыл бұрын
The problem is that the bearing journals are slightly undersized, like 61.98. And the bar is 62.00 like the bearings. So it'd just crush whatever I put in between to nothing. I think I need a slightly undersized bar with the ends normal sized, then check the play on the undersized part with solder or plastigages.

I don't know if you've ever swapped out cylinder liners but it isn't too difficult even on two stroke motors that were not designed for it. You have a decent sized lathe so it won't be a problem if you need to bore anything. There are plenty of automotive and diesel liners that can be modified if needed. Just find the pistons you want to use and go for it. You've done the real difficult work on cases, crank is pretty difficult to line everything up on inline 4 (although I've found 3 cylinder motors relatively easy??? Cylinder modification should be easy after all the work you've done
@scotttod6954
@scotttod6954 5 жыл бұрын
Why the extra work for 30mm shafts when the connecting rod journals will still be 25mm? I could see doin the output.side shaft 30mm but leave the rest. Or are you going to find connecting rods that allow for 30mm too?
@Hollaendaren
@Hollaendaren 5 жыл бұрын
The conrod pins are a lot shorter than the main pins. 17 mm gap vs 85 between cylinders. Also them being away from the center probably means a lot less torque on the conrod pins. I don't think they matter nearly as much as the main pins.
@scotttod6954
@scotttod6954 5 жыл бұрын
@@Hollaendaren from my experience with the Polaris triples the torsional stress on the connecting rod journal was always the fail point. Even after we would heat press and weld them in place they would eventually become out of phase, pigeon toed and take everything out with them. Hopefully with your 90 degree crank it will run much smoother. I would still suggest only doing 30mm on output side and leave the rest alone will get the same results with less work. great job so far though! Couldn't find a CNC router to custom make your crank case? Maybe 2 stroke stuffing could cast you one!!

Looks like that other crank had some sort of power take off between the two cylinders, but the pitch on the gears was too steep. I'm curious, I used to race a Yamaha TZ750, which was basically two TZ350 engines joined together. The TZ750 used a jackshaft and took the power off in the center, to avoid the issue of trying to squeeze four cylinder's worth of output thru all the cascading press fit pins. Good idea going bigger on the main pins.
@Hollaendaren
@Hollaendaren 5 жыл бұрын
The gear in the center is/was to drive the rotary valve and coolantpump, the 521s are rotary valved liquid cooled engines. I only bought the cranks, don't have the rest of those engines. It sounds like the TZ750 is very similar to the 750/800 engines that were in the Yamaha VMax4 snowmobiles. If the long crank doesn't work, center output with a jackshaft is my plan B.
