Tropica Aquarium Plants

10 жыл бұрын

Staurogyne repens is a fresh green, compact and hardy plant for the foreground of the aquarium and it was found in River Rio Cristalino in the southern Amazonas. Its nearest relative in the aquaristic is Hygrophila but Staurogyne is different with its marked compact, low and bushy stature (5-10 cm) and small green leaves (each stem is 3.4 cm wide). During planting in the aquarium, the longest upright shoots should be cut off and new horizontally creeping shoots will soon form from the plant basis and gradually colonize the gravel.

Hi David, check our website with many layouts and instructions about how much light, CO2, fertilisers were used in each. There is no exclusive setup, we adapt as we watch the plants grow - or not grow well. tropica.com/en/inspiration/ and aboutStaurogyne tropica.com/en/plants/plantdetails/Staurogynerepens(049G)/4481. @TropicaAquariumPlants

more light = higher nutrient consumption, if you haven't adjusted your nutrients you now have probably a lack of nutrients of some kind which result in what you experience, plants losing their leafs (its like driving car faster, you need more gas)

Does anyone know the ideal substrate depth for this plant? I have a 10 gallon tank and 1 inch of sand in the front
@ryanwilson5936
@ryanwilson5936 5 жыл бұрын
Are you planting in the sand? I usually shoot for at least 1 inch of planting substrate (I use ADA aqua-soil or Fluval Stratum) but usually go for 2-3. If you’re sloping your scape, I’ve used up to 5 inches of aqua-soil in the back. The plant itself doesn’t really need more than an inch but for the scapes sake, I always have a deeper planting substrate because I tend to slope my scapes, using rocks to hold it all back. Then I’ll usually use about half an inch of pool filter sand for the foreground if I’m not using carpeting plants.

@@ryanwilson5936 Hello, thanks for replying. Yes I'm using caribsea tahitian moon sand. It got recalled due to metals but mine seems fine so far. It's more like small gravel than sand so I don't know how the roots will do. My tank slopes from 1 inch in the front to 1.5 inch in the back. The s repens will only be in the front. I'm doing DIY co2 soon and I'm using root tabs as well. Do you think it'll be ok?

Yes, CO2 addition as it is the most important nutrient for plants. Staurogyne would probably have survived without CO2 addition, but it thrives and grows best when it has access to CO2. tropica.com/en/guide/make-your-aquarium-a-success/fertiliser-and-co2/

+Victor Fries I am afraid it's not possible for us to advise you personnally. Our specialists are so busy at the moment as we are preparing the most important petshow in Germany and lots of projects going on in the company. Maybe you can read our material on the website carefully to ensure you have used all our advices. Or you can contact fellow aquascapeers through forums, there is a lot of people knowing quite a lot about the planted tank out there. Or maybe you should consider starting a tank from A-Z using our quickguide? I wish you good luck :)

+Tropica I suddenly got it going..... I saw I should not be shy with nitrate and specialized fertilizer. Can you only ask this.... This only takes a minute... What are the preferred values....? I try to aim for this as good as it goes... So correct me where I am wrong... GH 9 (Depending on plants though.) KH 7 PH 6,5 - 6,8 so co2 is 25 mg/l NO3 25 mg/l FE 0,1 maybe 0,2 mg/l PO4 0,2 maybe 1 mg/l
@TropicaAquariumPlants
@TropicaAquariumPlants 8 жыл бұрын
+Victor Fries Your values generally look reasonable. Remember that every plant has its specific needs and preferences - this is why there are so many different species. For fertilisers, though, do not be afraid to "overdose" a little, as long as you perform your regular waterchanges. This will ensure fertilisers are available in plenty, at all times and ensure waste-products are discharged. Have a look at the "Estimated Index" (E.I.), which is based on this filosophy. Allways look at your plants and fauna, to tell you if they are OK. Testkits can be a guide, but can also give you info that is unprecise or misinterpreted. The plants themselves will react to their environment telling you if they get their needs fulfilled. Hope this is of help for your hobby, achieving the aquarium you want. Good luck.

And I fertilize 15 ml a day now and it is still not enough at 9 hours of light... So if I put the light on 10... 11... 12... hour soon.... It can be I have to fertilize 30 ml a day for instant? I never expected such high usage. It goes better by the day! Thank you super much again for all :)))

Wacek Pankracek Dude, in the proper conditions, most of our aquarium plants could go for a good bi-monthly trim. If the plants aren’t growing, 9.5 times out of ten, it isn’t the plant.... Honestly, most plants would do just fine with weekly 50% water changes and nothing else but an air-stone and perhaps a little bit of fertilizer. Plants do what plants do. Grow. If they don’t have what they need to grow, they don’t grow properly meaning either slowly, not at all, or with deficiencies (or toxicities, if they receive way too much of a certain fertilizer element [N,P,K, etc.]). I was actually surprised that the plants in the video didn’t grow faster.
