Great show, so much great info. Definitely something I think you need to implement as part of a coaching session. What would be great if you did testing sessions and linked up with a local b&b so those who don’t live close can book everything in one hit and know that after a few hours of testing, maybe a local ride, a great nights sleep they can return home with info and guidance to make improvements

Great podcasts with brilliant insights. Loved how it was longer so it nearly lasted as long as my zone 2 session. Keep these knowledgeable insights coming.

Really very interesting. The rider is more important than the bike for performance as they provide all the power. It would be nice if you could now find a volunteer and do a start video looking at their analysed current performance levels and then do a video every few months where their performance and hopefully their improvement could be tracked and explained. Thanks

Great video, thanks, for racers this is brilliant, did not know Paul has tech to grow MVDP's like mushrooms 😊. For the rest of us a tech to use our time on a bike or trainer the most efficiently is the most promising, e.g. I just switched from Zwift to Trainer road to get exactly that

WOW, interesting stuff. If we all have Power meters and heart rate monitors what useful data can/should we be getting out of that technology first? That should be your next podcast.

Love the idea of getting this kind of insight to guide a personalised training programme. But how frequently would someone need to retest in order to gauge progress and refine the training plan?
@Mapdec
@Mapdec 4 ай бұрын
I would usually test when there is evidence that the rate of progress has slowed despite effort. Find out what the next limiter is and work to overcome it.

@@Mapdec OK, so that's a completely fair way of thinking about it, but in your experience what amount of time does that typically translate to (accepting that there may be a fair range across different individuals)?

@@Mapdec I realise I never saw a reply to this. The "question behind the question" was "given that I'm in London and you're in Kendal, how viable (or not) is it to contemplate a periodic trip to Kendal for the next retest?"
@Mapdec
@Mapdec 13 күн бұрын
@@timhall7771 if you follow a periodised training plan, allowing for adequate recovery and check in regularly with a coach, you probably only need to test every 24 months to keep seeing steady improvement without a test trigging a change of plan. That said, regular testing and feedback is the best way to ensure a training plan is as effective and targeted as possible.

Have you got a measure for the fun factor? It's a serious question. It seems cycling for the sheer enjoyment of it has been forgotten in this data gathering world we now live in.

Cycling can be whatever you want it to be. Sometimes it’s nice to cruise and enjoy, sometimes you’re motivated to improve. The process of improving oneself is very exhilarating when you’re in the mindset for it.

@Mapdec Agree. I'm back racing after a 20 year break, and doing okay - using power meters, HRM, etc but I feel the sense of fun and freedom of cycling is getting lost with all the focus on data at least among my group of bike friends.

As someone who tries to race but I also teach spin , we now have bikes in class that measure power and people can do ftp test and log into there bikes with an app and all this is loaded up. The understanding from people new to power training was slow at first but now there all love these metrics as it beats being randomly thrashed by a les mills style level and rpm based classes. We have many more people now take up the class as a beginner as they know they can build up there fitness and work at their own level in the class , which they can’t with the les mills style
