I Divorced in 2019. The problem was my marriage was over 10-12 years prior. I tried to hold on for my two daughters, thinking it would be best to have both parents under one roof. Both are adult girls living on their own now. My Oldest recently told me that her mom, and I, had a Tumultuous Marriage, and that hit home for the first time hearing her say that to me, because I thought I was doing what was best for them, by staying. Her saying that, confirmed to me that I was wrong for staying, knowing the marriage was over.... NEVER stay in a broking marriage, or any other relationship for the sake of kids. You will only teach them how to tolerate DISFUCTIONALITY, and every other thing, that's NOT normal, or healthy in relationships.

A two parents' household doesn't guarantee a stable home. Sometimes is best to co-parent. I know a family that is messed up today because the mother stayed for the sake of the kids. They are adults now and need therapy. Sad situation 😢

Sometimes co parenting ain’t it either. Some parents don’t love their children and children and feel it.

@stryfetc1 to be a good parent on your own. I don’t know why so many people think this isn’t possible while married people are out here raising children that need therapy and an exorcism. A focused dedicated parent is what a child needs more than anything. I know plenty of losers who’s parents were married until death and I know very successful people who had dedicated loving mothers along with extended family who did their best.

Hey, thanks for sharing! That is a very sad situation. These decisions are usually quite difficult, and everyone involved is affected by it. Some worse than others, unfortunately 😔. It's very sad but we hope they are getting the support they need. We should do what we can do to support each other too 🤎

People think children don’t know or pick up on things. I have a friend in a marriage where they are basically living like roommates. They don’t argue in front of the children ( well two are now college age and the youngest 11 is still at home). However, they don’t show affection for each other in front of the children either. I’m like you think they don’t pick up on that?

Hey! Thanks for sharing. Yes, children pick up more than we think 😅

I have a friend who is in a very toxic marriage. His wife refuses to work or pays bills, she gets them into debt and is very violent (verbally, emotionally and physically). He told me earlier this year that he won’t leave the children with her (she wont be able to cope as he does EVERYTHING). He said he’s waiting for his youngest (3years) to be 18 years and then he can think about starting a new life without her. He just announced that he and his wife are expecting a new baby. 👀 Personally, I think it’s healthier for the children if they co-parented in separate homes. I can see how the wife’s behaviour is already affecting the children’s development and unless the children get counselling, I am worried that they will think that this marriage is normal and in the future they will also have toxic relationships.

Hey, thank you for sharing! We are so sorry to hear about your friends situation, it appears to be very complicated. Please continue to be a supportive friend and encourage him to speak with someone professionally. If he's based in the UK, GP's and schools are good access point and can sign post to services that may be able to help support him and the family. We wish them the best and hope they are able to receive the support they need via professions and/or from friends and family. 🙏🏾🤎

I think marriage especially is about duty and parents do have to sacrifice for their children but this dynamic will do more damage than good in the majority of circumstances. We also have to acknowledge that many people get together and have children loosely with no ground work and we have a lot of single parent homes. Many people who say they are staying for the children may actually be in denial and scared to be alone. So many angles

Wow this is a very thought provoking angel! The fear of being alone could be the true driver. Thank so much for commenting 🤎

there is no such thing as 'staying for the kids'. i learned that as a child. parents who do this are either deceiving themselves, or too ignorant to know that it does far more harm than good.

I simply could not do it. I don’t want a man I can’t stand in my space. I love my child but I have to put my oxygen mask on before I can save my baby.
