I'm gonna show you guys the fairly easy way I'm staying warm camping in my Jeep this winter. I've tried Propane, I've tried Diesel and this is it for me!

Being able to crank the Jeep and warm your living area makes this a great set up.

Yess the remote start was one of the simplest and best mods I’ve done. I love opening a panel and coming down to a warm jeep 🙌🙌

If I knew how nice it was going to be I would have ordered one so much sooner. Nicest sleeping bag I’ve ever had my hands on. I bought one of their rain jackets and I’m still waiting for my new custom jacket lol

Used the blanket option multiple times. Great solution. Side note, the Mr buddy does not produce CO. It does consume O2 and has an O2 sensor that will shut it off. No, you don’t sleep with it on. Secondly, the electrical blankets I have seen state not to sleep on them. Check your instructions. Thanks for the cozy video

Just got my first Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Recon and am building. As a long time lightweight backpacker (PCT, AT, TRT, etc) I love your channel and strategy. Saw the ski boots drying in the driver footwell. Where do you store your skis / snowboard?
@KramerJunction

Snowboard boots for me 😜 I pretty much put my boots in the footwell with the heat on the floor and really on that to do most of the drying for me. I really really want a roof mount for my snowboard, but for now I just keep my bird inside below 🤷‍♂️

Hi Kramer - i really appreciated this video. I just picked up my ursa minor and i've been contemplating how to approach keeping it warm to extend my camping season here in Colorado. I like your solution a lot - it's so simple! Let me run something by you: I have upstairs charging in my UM, but I installed USB on both sides - would an electric blanket work off of that or does it need the 12V? Next, I haven't set up a secondary battery system or anything yet. I was thinking about just getting the appropriately sized goal zero system or an equivalent to keep it even simpler. What are your thoughts about the time and anguish of installing a secondary battery system versus something portable and versatile like goal zero? My final question is, what pillow are you using? I haven't seen a wedge shaped pillow before. Do you keep it on top of your UM when you close it? Thank you!

So, there are blankets that plug in to USB, but I doubt usb would provide enough amps to provide sufficient heating. The plugs are actually extremely easy to swap from usb to 12v and vice versa. I would recommend using a Blue Sea outlet btw. I have tested my blanket with a borrowed Jackery 1000 and it used about 30%ish for about 5-6 hours of use, so with a 500 or equivalent you would have more than enough power to space for a night. I actually want to do a video about onboard battery bank vs portable battery bank because there are many proc and cons for both. In short, an onboard battery bank probably isn’t the way for most to go, it’s far more expensive, more components, wayyy more setup and more to go wrong. A battery bank is literally zero setup or work to get going. For ease of use, I’d say battery bank, all day. Last, I actually use two down pillows which I keep up top along with the rest of my bedding (Ursa Minor does advise against this). I think it just looks wedge shaped? Haha

There are small form factor Chinese diesel heaters that are amenable to Jeep scale. I just set one up.

This past weekend (Christmas weekend) I spent the night up in my roof top tent (mounted above a car), and it was also a frigid 4 degree night. I didn't have any powered equipment, just good mountaineering base layers and warm sleeping clothing combined with a zero degree sleeping bag and a wool blanket. I was pretty comfortable the whole night. A big concern I have is condensation and mold build-up on these tents. As I have been looking at eventually changing over to the Ursa Minor system one day, are you concerned with that condensation build-up and mold? Are you concerned about any of the exposed struts or hardware in these conditions? It's an interesting system using the battle born battery to power the electric blanket, as well as having the ability to remote start the Jeep and use the heat to warm things up.

That sounds like a great night. I’m totally with you on the right gear providing comfort without powered or fueled options. I’ve year round backpacked since I was younger so I know the importance of layers lol Condensation is a valid concern. Putting away a wet tent can be unavoidable, especially if it’s still raining or snowing lol Interior condensation can be an issue if you don’t vent your tent properly, but I haven’t really had issues. There were extremely cold nights when I kept the tent buttoned up and I woke up to ice on the inside walls. I usually open a hatch or two in the morning and hang out down below for a while with the heater running before I get going, this helps with interior condensation quite a bit. It’s like anything else, just air it out and you will be ok 👍🏻

@@KramerJunction thank you for the reply, it seems like having the unit connected to the inside of the Jeep would make it a lot easier to keep dry and maintain. Looking forward to one day having a similar setup!

Do you no longer use the genesis dual battery system?
@KramerJunction
@KramerJunction 2 жыл бұрын
I do, but I’m actively looking to convert back to a single engine compartment battery to save weight. If I didn’t have the new house battery, I wouldn’t consider it. With everything I have going on now, it’s overly redundant to carry two 63lb batteries in the engine compartment.
