Also have to take into account the scale: If the average viewer watches two hours worth of content from the original, to the branched content, multiply that by several MILLION viewers.... all for cooking a $2 steak. Asmongold just creates value out of thin air, it's why he deserves every penny in his bank account.

I won't lie, I used to eat a lot like Asmongold so I can relate. Ever since I went vegan and gluten free (dairy and wheat made me feel sick and I didn't want to eat meat/fish or eggs anymore) though, pre-made meals were suddenly more expensive and so I basically had to learn to cook to save money. My cooking skills slowly improved over several years and my food went from plain and meh to ok and sometimes decent. But just this past year I got really into cooking for enjoyment, and because I wanted to make food at home that gives as beautiful of a mealtime experience as my favorite restaurants. Cooking is just a great skill to have. Now I meal prep like 8 different meals and snacks for the week regularly and experiment with a lot more experience and wisdom (largely gotten from channels like ProHomeCooks and Ethan Chlebowski, but also a decent amount from personal experience) than when I got started, and everyone I share my food with loves it pretty consistently now. I say all this to say that I've been on both sides now, the "minmax asmongold-style" side and the cooking-as-art side, and it made this video that much more entertaining. And also as a simple message that getting good at cooking is so worth it and I definitely recommend it. It's just a universally good skill to invest some time into because everyone eats regularly, haha. You'd be surprised how good of a meal you can make when you've got the basics down and know a few pro tips! And if you're ever in a bind, it can be a life-saver to know how to make a good meal with whatever's in your pantry and fridge. I also find it helps to maintain a fulfilled and positive state of mind, making life more enjoyable one meal at a time. There's just something that a really DAMN good meal does to your subconscious that makes your day feel better than before.

If you lived 20 years poor asf, you'd find little reason to clean what is to you an acceptable living condition. Its kinda like playing a different mmo after sinking years into one. Not many people would budge from their comfort. Changing up his lifestyle also takes effort and work. And the type of gains you get isn't really to asmons interest. If our ancestors ever looked at us. Washing our hands everytime we took a piss and everytime before eating, we'd look like pretentious shits. Asmon doesn't get sick because hes exposed himself to these conditions for years, a body naturally adapts and conditions itself to be resistant to this. Just because someone chooses to live like an animal doesn't mean they have a mental issue.

Yeah, it's hard to understand just because most people don't know the whole story. No hate on the guy, because Asmond doesn't come across as grieving, and even jokes about it, so he assumes they're jokes. But it is genuinely sad. He has more then enough money to have a better house and even cleaning service every week. But this connects him to his past, and he doesn't know or doesn't want to let go of that. The calendar part got me as well... My grandma did that for grandpa's fishing calendars. He died over a decade ago, but she still has the last one he out up on her wall.

This guy is great and sums up perfectly why Asmon is super entertaining. Asmon just knows what to do for that perfect level of awkward-humor, the pauses, the weird stream-of-consciousness commentary during his steak cooking. It's an anti-cooking channel video in the best way... there's something so wildly entertaining about the entire scenario. On top of that, a multi-millionaire eating a $2 steak. Perfection.

I'm a chef and a butcher, I trained at the Culinary Institute of America, worked in some Michelin star restaurants then became a whole animal butcher and worked at some of the most high end butchery shops in the country. I'm not trying to toot my own horn I just wanted to explain that I'm coming from a place of knowledge. Asmon was cooking thin cut top round, probably 1/8th inch or 1/4 inch. Normally it is used for lean ground beef or cut exceptionally thin for things like cheese steaks or lean roast beef you get at a deli (although I personally love it for steak tartar.) It's cheap because its one of the muscles from the back leg (top round, bottom round, eye round, heel, knuckle, and shank) So while there might only be about 8 lbs of tenderloin inside a 1600 pound steer there's about 30-40 lbs of top round. Top round as a steak can be fine if you cook it on a blisteringly hot surface quickly and keep it rare, as the cut is incredibly lean anything past medium rare is going to dry the steak out because there's no fat to lend moisture to the interior of the steak. But it does have a good clean flavor. I just wanted to give him some suggestions for other cheap cuts that he might enjoy without having to get all bougie with his steaks. Chuck eye - the ribeye and the chuckeye (potroast) are actually the same muscle and butchers cut them where they do because we count the ribs and cut between the fifth and sixth rib because that is where the shoulder blade ends, so we can do it with a knife and not a bandsaw. That doesn't mean the muscle just ends there though. If you buy the first 2-4 inches of a chuckeye from the rib side you're basically getting a ribeye for about 1/8th the price. Bavette- Harder to find, bavette is a flap meat like flank or skirt steak, its much larger than the others but because it's pretty unknown in America if you can find it it's much less expensive than the other flap cuts. It's got an amazing flavor and texture but sadly because most grocery stores dont really have butchers anymore the cut is most often just chucked into ground beef. Denver steak - A muscle that sits on top of the potroast it has incredible marbling and a great fatty flavor if you don't mind a bit of chew (if you like topround you wont mind the texture) Flatiron - A muscle that sits in the shoulderblade the flatiron is the second most tender cut on a cow after the tenderloin. It's super thin and lean so Asmon could cook it like he does the top round he likes but will get a more tender result. Ranch steak - it's the cows tricep on the front legs. Dirt cheap like the top round and lean but it does have a fat cap on one side. There's nothing wrong with top round of course, it's not like he's cooking dog food, its a cheap cut because there's just a lot more of it per cow. But if he's every curious to try something else that wont cost him a ton of cash any of these would be a nice change for him.

A1 has tamarind and anchovie in it, so essentially when you ferment it past the expiration date you are creating Garum in your fridge. Do you know what Garum is? It was a fermented fish and fruit sauce made in ancient Rome and used on basically everything the way people use ketchup now. At one point in ancient Rome, Garum production was made illegal because it was so smelly and the people of Rome were so addicted to using it on their food.
