That was funny😅 “Remember to put this back in the same orientation it was when you started”lol I was like…one more one more one more!!!! Thank you for being real and not editing mistakes. It’s very encouraging to less experienced black smiths such as myself.👍🏻

Hello John, in Germany we have an exact measurement for making the hook: It has to fit exactly around the neck of a beer bottle so you can use the steak flipper to lift your beer out of the box while standing at the grill ;-) btw. I like the christmas countdown on your channel, a very nice idea!

Definitely adding this to my list for when I get started on blacksmithing. Like I mentioned before I naturally ambidextrous so I’m going to make both orientations when I do this. I’ll be good hammer exercise for both my hands

Sir, I really enjoy your videos. I've been smithing as a hobby for 15 years give or take. I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. Your hot file technique has been a huge help. I came into a bunch of old wore out files a couple years ago with the idea of making some blades. Needless to say they have been moved from my project pile to my tool pile. I have made many of these steak turners for people. I like the bigger hook that you put on this one. I'm going to incorporate that from now on. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these videos.

Excellent project as always. I personally love making them. There is a huge BBQ community here, and those are fantastic sellers for me. I do coat them in just a veg oil. You make the hook section very close to as I do mine. I have seen some with a tiny little hook at the tip, but I find those just do not work as well as far as how people to rate their wrists. This is a fast thing to make, and is something I love to forge as it gets used a good amount, and people see the product. I'm glad you put that extra half twist into it. I was wondering about that when you stopped 😂. Probably the simplest tool so far in this series to forge, but one that I have seen have the most hand/use time.

I make a blend of beeswax with just enoigh coconut oil so that it's hard at room temperature, but it soften just enough melt when you run a rag around on it. (Just slightly harder than shoe polish) I call it knife butter because I made it for carbon steel knives, but I now use it on anything that needs to be food safe.

When I first saw the size of hook you put on there John, I was wondering: "What manner of cave-man steaks do you cook!?!?!". I always figured the diameter of the hook should be approximately the thickness of your steak. So *THAT* flipper should probably have room on the handle for both hands!

John, you just made my point I was making in yesterday's comment!! When you were working on the horn of the anvil, you made an off-the-cuff comment about the stability of your anvil. You said that "if you are working over the horn of your anvil and the tail keeps flipping up, you are wasting your time". WOW! If you are listening, this tells you to make sure that your anvil is stable, and solidly mounted. Why is that information important? It all comes down to force. When working hot metal, all you have is your hammer and your anvil. If your hammer blow, with your hot metal in between the hammer and the anvil, is against a solid base, then ALL of the force, from that hammer, is transferred into the hot metal. The hammer is moving the anvil isn't going to move, hopefully. The hot metal has to move in one direction or another. If the base is flat ( e.g. the face of the anvil), it follows that the metal will "squish" outward from side to side. Whereas, if you work over an area that presents a much smaller profile for the force to be concentrated in a much smaller area (e.g. the horn of the anvil), the metal will move in a more linear fashion, be "drawn out". If your "base", your anvil isn't solid on its foundation, then a lot of your force is wasted, and you'll have to work harder to achieve similar results as those who take the time to make sure that their anvil is mounted on a solid foundation. Where else can I get that information except at the elbow of an experienced blacksmith? Your loyal student.

I got a big ol' chuckle out of that guard sticking straight up! I was watching and watching, and you're there talking about doing the twist right..... then you didn't. The whole time you're eyeballing down the length, brushing it, straightening it, and that guard is sticking up in the air just as proud as can be! I though for sure you were just doing a different kind of handle than I'd ever seen. Thought maybe it was some kind of Westerner's idiosyncrasy. I mean, you'd just spent an hour talking about the orientation the handle to the hooks, left hands and right hands, twisting so you don't end up with something you hadn't planned on..... then, oops! That's totally how my luck runs. Glad to see I'm not alone in the world!

I'm confused. Just when you say to remember to twist the handel back to it's original orientation (11:13) you twist it 180 (540) degrees. But when you show the finished flipper (13:19) it is suddenly twisted another 180 degrees(720 total).
