Not against stealth aircraft they can’t. Stealth is very effective against radar guided missiles. Less effective against heat seekers and guns. Now that begs the question of how the Russians intercepted them, but long wavelength ground radar could have guided them in. EDI and Talon 1 could have engaged BVR, but EDI I think actually wanted to try the whole fire forged friends thing, and Talon 1 didn’t want to start WW3.

He know Talon 01 would be able to finish the 1st Terminator in an instant. He intentionaly cut him to interupt his targeting system ,put him at disadvantage to delay some time, so at the end of the fight he can positioned himself behind the talon 01 (in case he consider the latter as threat, so he can finish it) & later the 3rd terminator. Apparently, Navy's always been really big on having a silver screen presence. I remember reading somewhere that Navy's very happy to play ball with Hollywood to spruce up its image for recruiting. And it worked. Top Gun put Naval Aviation into the minds of regular joes, and there's a deluge of movies based on or feature Navy SEALs. Other branches of the US Military aren't as big on advertisements.

Pre-flaring is useful as it makes it harder to lock onto the aircraft before the missile launches.
@DaveQZ85
@DaveQZ85 Жыл бұрын
@@adamseanabdullahfennessy8774 Good point, I can see that giving whatever edge you can get. Since aircraft deploy them after making a run and transport aircraft right before landing. Both in known hot spots. That aside, I would still question their effectiveness here because of how close they are (hey it's a movie; no fun in BVR missile launches). There isn't enough separation time for the chaff and flares to the aircraft body to make distinct targets to track, no? I'd imagine radar/IR would see it as only a slightly bigger aircraft with all that countermeasures coming off it.
@adamseanabdullahfennessy8774
@adamseanabdullahfennessy8774 Жыл бұрын
@Dave Zhang That is correct. In reality, the distance between aircraft would be in several kilometres for pre-flaring to be effective. At those ranges, most seekers resolution is low enough that flares and chaff can easily be confused, but once the missile / launch aircraft is closer, a lock is much harder to break

So he states that he's low on fuel. They've just finished engaging the other fighters over Lake Baikal, Russia. The landing is in Alaska. So how is he low on fuel when that distance is more than 5,000km (3,000 miles)? If anything he should've radioed base and told them he has too MUCH damn fuel.

It's probably launched during Soviet era times but still in use by Russia. Tbf, it's not that impossible since the US still use recon sattelites launched during the Cold War era.

movie dogfights would be real boring if the planes were as capable as real 5th generation fighters (or later), noise pointing is unnecessary, the F-35 can fire its missiles backwards if it needs to. Maneuverability is more or less unnecessary when your radar can identify pubes on a rat

@@Coinz8 It can, however use its Distributed Aperture System (the 360 degree camera system that allows the pilot to "see" through the floor of the jet) to create a firing solution - so a pilot could see a target behind the plane, launch a missile that is then directed to turn around and go behind the target - then the missile's own targeting systems can take over. The F35 is not limited to forward looking IRST or forward looking radar for target acquisition.

There's something called pre-flaring. Flares and chaff don't really work well against modern missiles once they are chasing you, it's best to confuse the enemy's targeting systems before they launch a missile.

@@sacopanchez151 all they have to do is wait a few seconds then launch the missile, it’s called having a brain the flares which is what they used have a heat signature which make the missile lock onto them instead, and as soon as there gone there’s one massive heat signature where the engine is and no air move is gonna save them when that missile locks and launches
