We took our stealth camper van conversion out for some urban stealth car camping tonight, and found a great spot on the seafront next to an old fort.
As requested, here's how you buy me a coffee or beer, it would be really appreciated: ko-fi.com/manontheoutside

Things I used in the video:
Car privacy blinds: ebay.us/SWe8Wi
Curtain poppers: ebay.us/B2BQm2
Cooking campset for 2: bit.ly/2Xu49DH
Terra Hiker mini camping stove: amzn.to/3eHAT2a
We decided to do some last minute urban car stealth camping, and drove out to a spot we were tipped off about in the stealth camper van conversion / stealth camping minivan. We parked up in the stealth camper van conversion but we had to move later on when we realised the area wasn't so good!
Info on my stealth camper van conversion / stealth camping van / stealth camping minivan : It's a Ford Grand Tourneo Connect, I removed the rear 2 seats so the car became a 5 seater, and I'm able to to transport the my boot jump camper conversion kit around while still retaining 5 seats all the time. I added privacy blinds and some basic curtains to turn it into a stealth camper van conversion which I use for urban stealth car camping whenever I can.
This DIY micro camper build is basically a homemade boot jump conversion kit, and I based it on the Amdro boot jump (which costs around £2500) - I built my own self build micro camper for fraction of the cost, so I could do urban car stealth camping.
You can download the plans and detailed photos for my micro camper boot jump conversion completely free here: bit.ly/3lgi6iJ
I'm pretty new to this urban stealth car camping stuff so I would love to hear your suggestions to improve my stealth camping minivan - feel free to leave me a comment! I also hope my channel gives you some ideas for your own self build micro camper using a boot jump conversion kit.

When you left the fort car park,you should have turned right instead of left,and gone along the prom to the dips, much better for park ups

Cheers Jim, a couple of people also mentioned the dips! Looks like a nice spot, I must have missed it on the drive in. Got a camp planned there soon, it looks great. Thank you!

I tend to watch the video and comment as I go which often means I edit three or four five times. I'm liking your set up although I'm not sure of the rope, in the past I've used regular curtain rings on a sturdy rod. Those are some great prices on whiskey. That's a very pretty place and an interesting choice of places to set up your stove. I have the same stove I carry in my daily driver. I do understand where both of you are coming from about eating in the restaurant but there's something about cooking in the open air. There's also the point that you can make your own way cheaper than you can buy it in a restaurant and for me every dollar saved on food is another dollar that goes in the tank. Did I mention I can get very wordy? LOL.. I can't count how many times I have moved just because something didn't set right with me, I might not have been able to put my finger on what was making me feel uncomfortable but I learned a long time ago not to second guess that feeling. It's usually easy enough to move whether it's a block down the road or another 10 miles. Do you have any fans or anything for when you're sleeping? That's a pretty neat location where you can see the sunset and the sunrise! We recently did a sunrise to sunset trip across Florida it actually took almost 22 hours because my son was planning on getting a hotel room in the Tampa area but there wasn't any to be had so he ended up driving the four and a half hours back to Jacksonville..

I love cooking in the open, it's much better and like you say, saves a lot of money! I just didn't feel right at that spot so I guess it is a gut feel as you say, I've had it a few times and I agree that you just 'know' when a spot doesn't feel right. Luckily we didn't need to move far! I don't use fans when sleeping but I have wind deflectors on the front and middle windows, so I'm able to crack the windows a little which really helps with the ventilation. Not done much in the winter yet though so I guess I will have some condensation challenges!

Cheers Steve! Hit the nail on the head there, I need to stop checking what's going on outside and mind my own business, I'm too nosey 😄😄 On the views, it's all really down to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), I basically figure out what people are searching for and target those search terms in my video titles, descriptions, and tags...it's very effective and helps you rank higher and pull in more views. I use a paid tool to do it (you can get a free version to play about with but the paid version gives you a lot of extra stuff), most big channels do this kind of stuff, it's more effort but defo pays off on your views and helps you grow quicker. Have a look here: bit.ly/3BtcOoR

I can see the fort from my home.. it’s a fab place to live but that car park is used for meet ups and cars practising their must have ‘wheelie’ skills 😫. If you come over again park along the prom. Straight line from where you were till you pass the clown. Anywhere down there by what we call ‘the dips’ is much nicer and there’s fishermen and some mobile homes so not totally in the middle of nowhere alone. (No street lighting). The side of each dip has a cut through road and they tend to be best as no main traffic. Sunsets are amazing. I watched this praying you’d have a peaceful night but I would have put money on you moving to another spot…

It's a lovely spot to live, you must absolutely love it down there! Thanks for the tips, I think we drove past 'the dips' on the way home, I saw quite a few motorhomes parked there. Looked like a great spot, I missed that on the way in as we must have come a different route. Hopefully the council don't start putting restrictions there too, it would be a shame to take it away. I plan to definitely go back, such a great area.

Thanks folks…I really enjoyed this one… my old stomping ground. I had my first job waitressing in a seafront restaurant there…I was diabolical at it 🤣! I could see the nightclubs in the background, but couldn’t figure out which pub you were in. Great footage of the area…I don’t remember it looking as photogenic when I was there. If I’m not mistaken, my cousin’s car was ‘stolen’ and parked down the slipway near where you slept… bit of an ‘insurance job’🙄! They’re probably still at it, so you’re lucky you didn’t wake up surrounded by the ‘bizzies’ 😉😆

Awesome, I guess it's changed a lot now, seems to be getting a little bit of money spent on the area which is always good! 👍The pub/bar was the Bow Legged Beagle on Victoria Road, I don't know that area but it felt like it was quite new to me. I did see quite a few police cars going past, strange they didn't bother going into the car park where all the action seemed to be 😄

@ManontheOutside 2 жыл бұрын
It's a great size car/van. Just make sure you get the 'Grand' which is the long wheel base - the standard Tourneo is quite a bit smaller although would still make a great camper. I used to have a BMW 3 series Tourer (estate), that was a big car but the Tourneo is vast by comparison!

Those barriers, FFS. I hope I can fit as I now have a van. 2.2m should be ok 😐 Knew you'd like it. It's great location, seems like the gangs have taken over the car park now. So put the barrier up, stop MoHo from using it, encourage the drug dealer to take over because no one uses it over night anymore. Brilliant 😠 Tunnel is a quid with the free fast tag.
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 2 жыл бұрын
Still a great location, cheers for the tip. Maybe I hit it on a bad night tbh. I noticed a few MoHos were scattered around the side streets and there were loads further up the road so as you say it's just moved them elsewhere and created a no go area next to the fort. Council will probably remove them in a few months, lol

Hi What tape did you use around the edges of your windows and did you manage to black out the window suction pads? Another great adventure I’m about to start my build in the next couple of weeks, just waiting for all the materials to arrive. It was your boot jump video that got my started in this and yes I’ve got my vehicle to convert ❤️

I just used black insulation tape Nick - it's not the best solution tbh as it warps in the sunshine as I found out this week. So I need to find a better solution! It might be possible to use a more UV/sunshine resistant tape or something, maybe car tinting tape or something like that. I am looking into a few options (including a curtain) so I will let you know what I come up with. I think this is a common problem with windows, privacy shades never quite completely close the gap! Keep us updated on the build, sounds great!

@@ManontheOutside I thought that when you mentioned insulation tape it doesn’t like getting warm the glue melts kinda thing. I got blinds but were aqua in colour, so I’m sending them back today free of charge and getting a full refund. I shall be ordering black backed ones then.
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 2 жыл бұрын
Aqua is a strange colour! Glad you were able to get refunded! I think something like this might work, window edge blackout tape, it's a tinting product so the glue might be better. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251402854093 - I will see if I can order a thinner version and try it out.
