Why won't you play War Thunder?
▪️ I raged at getting sniped by tanks that I could never see. Also nonsense like turning bushes off that helps you perform better. That seems like a terrible design to me. War Thunder also had drama several years ago about the CEO calling the fanbase to help strike down channels or using copyright strikes to eliminate channels entirely. That is such abuse of power and dictatorial nonsense that I refuse to play a game created by such a company.

Deploying unescorted capital ships is never a good plan, especially if you’ve designed your capital ships to be escorted when faced with ships that have torpedoes.

Depends on the design and date of campaign. If you focus on having your capital ships at least 3 knots faster than enemy capital ships you can do it and kit enemy groups and kill all their destroiers trying to catch with you before you turn to face other ships. THat is usually the best strategy when you are super outnumbered but not out-teched. His mistake was trying to force that fight to be useful. With bad weather he shoudl have just ran away.

There really needs to be some balance to torpedo spammers. Your game the CL has 88 torps, the CA has 66 torps which doesn't increase the flash fire chance. Something like a dynamic +1% flash fire chance per 5 torpedoes carried. The CL having a +17%, CA+13% to flash fire, reducing by 1% for each 5 torps fired

They have at least 52 ships with torpedoes... I think picking them off one by one is the best way to deal with them, Also, I know you’re not going to hit anything at long range with oxygen torpedoes, but when you have enough 24 inch warheads of doom coming your enemies way, you’ll be bound to hit

that's one of the things that annoys me about the game currently: the 1930 and 1940 campaigns are basically just "welcome to torpedo hell." Usually, I build my ships in the later campaigns around the idea that 1. they have to turn as tight as they can, and 2. I'm also a blind idiot of an admiral and will miss torpedo walls coming away. so torp defense is nice.

I KNOW cadets don't know how to aim, but this has gone too far. Accuracy @12km is like from 1910s rather than 1940. It's like a teen don't know how to use a computer in 2020.

I've been derping around in the custom battle and that weird accuracy bug occurs there even with exceptionally high gunnery bonuses. As if they're aiming at an invisible ship in front of or behind an enemy ship every single salvo.

I am absolutely astonished by your new thumbnail! I love you trying to follow Plan Z (Meaning start small and expand later). Edit: You could also include the H Class Battleship (only planned), you can pick from H-39, H-41, H-42, H-43, and H-44 (each plan gets increasingly higher guns and displacement) but I think it will be another super battleship campaign which is quite boring Edit 2: I wonder how the heck the 15-inch gun from the BC just flew to another dimension while stating that there is at least a 5% hit chance, it's like the 15-inch keeps shooting a ranging shot all the time in the skirmish without really shooting at the target

i would say that in the later year campaign the most important things are turn rate and sonar

Interesting, you might have wanted to go for quantity and range with less battleships and battle cruisers and more heavy cruisers, light cruisers, and destroyers. They might not project as much power as the battleships and battle cruisers but they can make up for it in numbers and cost. Remember that Germany is not as economically strong as some of the other nations so it cannot afford to field very many expansive capital ships. While it is possible to field some, you have to be careful how they are constructed because as you have seen with a less seasoned crew and lack of sonar they can be easily sunk by groups of ships.

Perhaps reconsider putting some sort of hydrophones or sonar on your bigger vessels. Especially if you intend to send them out alone for convoy raiding.

Actually the Nürnberg class isn't bad 9x 6inch main backed by 8 3-4" secondaries, and 8x 2" secondaries, would be good for anti-destroyer work, as well as 12 × 21" torpedoes. It would be workable light cruiser for germany. and since this is the "historical but not quite" verison. the O class light cruiser, with 8 6" guns (in 4 double turrets), 3 shafts, 2 steam turbines, 4 diesel engines, 35.5 knots, in the 8500 to 9300 ton range, would give you something to play with too, as its... not... fleshed out past that historically, but was planned for 1940.

You can try to put the gunnery to Agressive to somewhat ignore range finding shots, it doesnt always help but from what i tried 2 out 3 times ships started landing shells after 3 or 4 salvos. Especially with bigger guns this might be helpfull

Would really like to see a ship with four torpedo turrets and 10 inch guns.Maybe build a thirty eight knot cruiser that has ten inches of armor fore and aft belt, ,sonar two ,two torpedo turrets on the bow and one ten inch main gun in front with two turrets in back. Just a suggestion thought you might be able to afford at least two ships like this design.The two torp turrets on the bow should help you out since you do tend to head towards the enemy to engage..It would also help because you also tend to turn alot anyway just a suggestion.

imo training crew should convert acc penalties into aiming time penalties. ie experienced gun crew holding fire in bad waves until theres a clear shot

You might want to check O-class' fuel, last time I see it was semi-oil. Which may cause some smoke problem.

Given the situation that you're in, you may find yourself outnumbered a lot, like in the fateful battle of the O-class. This might not be the best thing to do in a campaign that strives for (as much as possible) historical accuracy, but maybe you could design a kind of O2 class battlecruiser, with only one turret in the front and two in the back. Taking the inspiration from the Nuremberg light cruisers, basically, but applying it to a battlecruiser whose purpose will always be kiting away from the enemy. In this way, you could maybe both outrun the enemy torpedoes, and then beat them with your main guns. I mean, given this defeat, I'd expect some naval designers in your campaign's universe to at least think about adding sonar everywhere!

They really need to re-balance torpedo accuracy. The idea that the AI can routinely hit you with torps at 10+K range on a ship dancing the way you were is ridiculous. Submarines in WW2 would close to within 1000M of their targets before launching and even then had accuracy levels of 50%. Torpedoes should be a reasonable threat to keep you from closing your capital ships right up to lighter combatants but not a way for a 1v1 combat between a battleship and a light cruiser to be a toss-up

Actually thinking things through a bit more I could see a lot of fun trade-offs that could be done here. For example a torpedo is a big bomb that is sitting on your ship's deck. Above-water torpedoes should be horribly vulnerable to HE fire and when hit should do a ton of damage to your ship (not just destroy the launcher)

The O-class battlecruises have wrong armament, they were supposed to have 3x3 13" guns not 2x3 15", what you built was the pland upgrade for the scharnhorsts

I have no idea where you got that info from, I would really like to read that source. Germany past WW1 never designed a single 13" gun. At least none that Ive never ever heard of. There were vague considerations to upgun from the initial 11.1" 28cm/54,5 SK C/34 to the 12" 30,5cm/56 SK C/39 but these were just vague considerations because a use of this gun in the proposed triple gun turret (other than single gun test this gun has never been used anywhere but there exist blueprints for a turret) would require a whole redesign of the hull, since the turret ring and thus the barbette is of a different diameter than the original 11.1" turret. Using a bigger turret requires a bigger beam in real life, its not just as easy as in a game to replace a gun with a bigger gun. You have to redesign the whole ship to fit this gun. There is a big difference about the Drh LC/34 turret for the 11.1" turret. When the turret was designed, it was already designed with the intention to have it later replaced with the Drh LC/34 turret for the 14.96" 38cm/52 SK C/34. Thus it had exactly the same diameter on the turret ring. The only difference (construction wise) in those 2 turrets is that the one for the 14.96" gun is much heavier, at least in its design for the Bismarck and Scharnhorst class battleships (keep in mind that the upgunning of the Scharhorsts was already intended during their design phase and the Scharnhorst were only built with the 11.1" guns to not upset the british and constraints by the armament industry to have the guns ready in time). Therefore any O-Class with any other gun than the 14.96 or a 11.1" is just pure fantasy. Other guns simply do not fit into the superstructure the ship was designed with. The O-Class is basically just a "lighter" version of the Scharnhorst class. It even had slightly less deplacement than the Scharnhorst class. Most of this displacement went into the engine anyway, a mixed diesel and steam turbine engine required a lot of room, though this would have doubled their operational range compared to the Scharnhorst class to allow them to operate more independently like the Deutschland-Class could. (If this is a good idea is debatable, Im looking at you, Graf Spee) This leaves the O-Class with less displacement for guns, making it very unlikely for a feasible design with a 3x3 12" gun layout even less so with a 3x3 13" gun layout.

@@neorenamon Yes, the final design. There was an evolution of the unsatisfatory design of the P-class with its 11.1"guns. So the first drawn design that lead to O-Class was with 11.1" guns, but immediately it was debated to upgun the ship to 14.96" (the german 38cm not quite a "true" 15" gun) as well. With the denounciation of the Anglo-German Naval Agreement that debate ceased to exist and any design drawn after that included the bigger gun. Keep in mind that these 3 ships were already ordered from the shipyards before a final design was chosen indicating how many iterations and different drawings these ships went through before ending in a final design

Started a new Campaign as the Brits. Built nothing but battlecruisers. Worked surprisingly well, at least until Italy had a Revolution and lost me the game.

Smoke obstruction: 20% ... Your BC isn't very good at firing astern. Also I'm not sure, but the wide of the mark main battery shots might be because they're firing when the guns are reloaded, without having made sure they're trained on the target correctly because you're maneuvering at the same time. Maybe the turrets can't keep up with the rate of turn?

I think an issue you've hit dead on with that first battle is that unfortunately, Plan Z was pretty rubish and the O class were crap. The larger the gun gets, the more you move away from the original doctrine battle cruisers were intended for. I commend you for building historically, but even in an anti-cruiser role, let alone comerce raiding, 11 or 12 inch guns would have been much better. Historically the Germans suffered because the the Scharnhorsts only had 11 inch guns which couldn't face off with the 15 and 14 inch gun carrying Battleships the Royal navy used to defend the convoys. In game however, 10, 11 or 12 inch would have worked much better for the rate of fire and allowance of additional guns. That said, the torpedo spam issue really does need fixing. This game totes itself as being a game and not a simulator, and as such it needs balancing to stop this from happening so much.

Not sure about the tactics. Range and speed advantage should have made the BC untouchable in that fight. Kite away outside their gun range leaves them unable to fire torpedoes or put any fire down. Your own accuracy would have been terrible but even a couple hits costs them drydock time... but then again the battle would have boring for your viewers.

you are still fighting the ships stupidly and inneffectively.. you get bonus for accuracy for going in a straight line, yet keep turning.. you have brawler ships thats manouverable yet fight at astronomic distances where u wont hit anything with you main guns and untrained crews.. feel bad! feel very bad because you would have been shot for embarrasing the vaterland :P

If I sail in a straight line I get hit by 40 torps. I'd rather sacrifice accuracy than die instantly thank you.

@@Stealth17Gaming I don't agree with the OP, but I was a little disappointed that you ran with the BC, rather than use it's awesome turn rate to turn in to them and close range. With so many torp ships, your best bet is to get among them so they either can't torp for fear of hitting each other, or they do torp and you can then charge them down as you dodge.... Really unlucky to eat that first torp... it was over with that shot, as you lost your speed. Better luck next time with the BC... might want to add a sonar to them though.
