I waited a year for my steam deck during which time the hype train had reached all the way to the moon! Has valve met expectations? I walkthrough the main considerations living with it for about a month and share my thoughts to help you decide if it deserves a spot in your pocket (Mostly your backpack) . I got the 256 gb variant. My review and thoughts are based on no mods, no windows, nothing crazy ; just the steam deck as valve intended. That being said, yeah, running windows, call of duty fortnite is possible if you can put in the work. I did properly try to put modern warfare in this but after a few attempts, I gave up; it just was not working for me. but hey, MW2 is launching on steam, so who knows, that may not even be an issue in a few weeks )
I have worked out 2 main use cases for this device.
1) As an extension to your existing gaming setup
2) As your primary gaming device ( the one I was more interested in)
I believe Valve has expressed a very simple message with the steam deck; which is to chill out from our FPS and 8K flexing and just jump into our games and enjoy them. You no longer need giant 3090 Ti rigs. This one… is for the fans!
