this "tutorial" sucks....totally useless... Tutorial when you do step by step all installations and not just saying "launch that and all works...". This shit not works for me.

The funny thing is much of the initial tutorials will likely be out of date by the time that happens.

If you're up for some testing (I've also posted the comment above) and of course, if you are curious and it suits you, you could try this: I know that currently you can definitely have "any" Linux distro + Windows, but not "the Steam OS" Linux + Windows. I've also heard that if you HAVE Steam OS installed on your device AND you THEN try to install Windows, it doesn't like that and will not boot properly, However, a reviewer made the point that it's the installation of Windows that kind of messes it up, so you could have Windows installed FIRST and THEN install Steam OS from the provided image. Is this even possible? I'm not familiar with what boot options and install options you do get with the Steam OS image. If you ever install windows on your internal drive, give it a try. Go into the Partition Manager and shrink your internal storage (Windows Partition) so that some Unallocated Space remains after it. Then try the Steam OS USB image and see where it takes you. In theory, it should leave Windows alone, but in practice, I don't know, will it still boot?

@@ToastedSynapseGaming IIRC, when you go to install SteamOS, it partitions and takes over the entire drive and wipes out everything in its path. If this has recently changed, that's great news!

I remember someone did a vr test on a hacken-deck and I think Beat Saber and a few other games preformed pretty well

@@SupremeODMG pavlov does naturally run like garbage so I'd be curious to see a game like half life alyx or boneworks, tho I don't expect either to run great at all

@@MinibattleLop those are higher requirements to play i have also played half life but not long just pavlov. Half life wasn't that smooth for me but i don't have the fastest storage so idk if that would help. I can try boneworks later tonight 😁

@@eprimchad2576 the only thing I found was using windows 11, and it has touch gestures where u can get out of a game or program by swiping three fingers on the screen.

I'm in exact same situation. Did everything right. I chose controller in game as well. I'm trying warzone. And get in no problem. I can't use XAYB or L2/R2 TO aim etc. Just not working it's strange and stressing lol

That's what I was wondering. Likely msi afterburner but I fail at configuring and can never get the TPD info. Plus it doesn't seem to overlay on windows store games.

Im pretty sure that UWPHook does not enable controller support, it just launches the game. This has been an issue for years in the Steam Link community. GloSC is the solution, but most people add each Gamepass game to steam as non steam games instead of this notepad thing.

@@MichaeH not inherently but once added as non steam game by UWPHook steam input can be setup and used.

Why would there be? That stuff is built into SteamOS and is linked to the Gamescope compositor which use the Wayland display protocol. All of these things are SteamOS 3.0/Linux specific. You can probably cobble together something that will do a similarish job using third party software running on the desktop and alt tabbing etc but it won't be an integrated experience.

@@eagle_rb_mmoomin_418 I don't know anything about computers at all. I saw, that it shows how full the battery is and though, that maybe there already is a 3rd party programm, capable of adjusting paramaters in game or maybe valve made a windows version of it. Have a nice weekend!

It seemed pretty much similar to Steam OS, minus you cannot limit/change TDP or FPS on the fly. But I was playing intensive games like Call of Duty and it seemed to draw roughly around the same (anywhere from 9w to 15w+). Hope this helps. That translates to like 2-4,5hrs of battery life depending on the usage (Steam Deck has 42w battery). On idle it's around 5w.

Can't do that with Steam Input on Windows without a third-party application like this. Windows won't see any controller even if you make the desktop config a gamepad.

@@xAddi01x it was confirmed by Plagman that, on Windows, that doesn't work unless you rely on other software. The desktop configuration only matters with respect to keyboard configs without GloSC

Will that app help get the controller working on the steam deck for warzone? I did the notepad way and i get into the game no problem and the menu. But the controls and the mapping is completely off. L2/R2 zoom in/out to shoot and XAYB aren't working for some reason. It it worked earlier. I added notepad to the library and pressed play and heard the sound. I have battletnet open for warzone. I go to battlenet after playing notepad. Game opens perfectly. The mapping just doesn't work and buttons aren't working anymore. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.thanks.

Nope, steam can't hook into the .exe (at least from my testing this week). It is able to launch and monitor it though so if you are using GloSC you can have it close the GloSC window when the game closes now though which is an improvement!

You would have to map them in the "notepad" controller configuration. Just right click it > manage > controller configuration
