Just wanted to say thank you Julien for every cup, every video you posted. Your videos keep me going, they are so soothing and calm. Listening to your journey and thoughts helped me to go through with some of the hardest times in past few years. I am also a dad, a husband, I work a full time job at a warehouse, I come home exhausted, and I always try to be a present father and a good husband. Lately I had some personal problems, and your cups help me to ease up a little bit in the evening when everyone is sleeping. I take a beer and relax watching your newest cup. For past few videos I felt the same as you did, I am also going through some change regarding my gaming habits and life, and also my personal life. Just wanted to say that you are wonderful person, and your videos are such inspiration to me, and I hope you keep doing this the way it has been all this time. Thank you for everything.

I understand what you’re saying but blaming large games on next gen isn’t very fair. You can own a ps5 and still play shorter games just fine. I have a steamdeck and steam is full of the same types of games

I've been skipping many AAA games recently and focusing on those I truly enjoy, whether it's AAA, AA, indie, new game, old game, I just play whatever it is that I enjoy or feel like it's my kind of game. And to be honest, by doing so it completely restored my love for gaming. You don't need to play "the next best thing", just focus on what you truly like and enjoy, and your gaming life will be much happier and healthier (and cheaper).

I came to the same realization. When first I found that I had stopped playing my Xbox because I was spending time with work and my teenagers. Then I got my hands on a ROG Ally and feel back in love with gaming. I gave my Ally to my son, and my daughter and other son both had Steam Decks. So I bought a Steam Deck because of the ease of use and better battery life compared to my ROG. I travel a lot, so I found that handheld gaming was my happy place. After I completed Cyberpunk 2077, I realized that I just didn't have the time or the attention to just sit and play AAA games anymore. They require a lot of investment that I simply am not in a place to give. I prefer indie games, or quick in and out games that don't require me to commit to long play sessions or multiple needed DLC's to keep up with the rest of the community. I used to be able to do that, but now is not the time for that for me. Appreciate the videos.

I got my Steam Deck OLED almost a week ago and I am happy with it that I can now play PS5, PSP and my Steam games, but never felt the need to get Xbox. I finally got Quantum Break on sale as my first bought game on the Deck. The only game I was very excited for these couple of years was Spider-Man 2 and so glad that I didn't get the PS Portal because I am then limited to just the games on my PS5 and only if I have internet.

As a fellow father of 2, I couldn’t agree more that life does indeed change, a lot. Game time has been significantly reduced and jumping into any long game just feels kind of pointless I find myself going to shorter newer games or revisiting older titles, as well as playing more multiplayer stuff than I have in a long time. Great for short sessions and I’m able to jump in with friends

Same. Sold my Series S and never looked back. My next purchase will be a proper big boy PC. Never going back to consoles after experiencing all the options and versatility a PC offers. Plus Steam is so much cheaper than any of the major game company stores. Steam Deck changed my (gaming) life.

I would have to agree with you on all of this, I have played videogames my entire life and as I have gotten older I don't have the time like I used to. So the steam deck being portable and letting me play games I love like Dark Souls, or Sun Haven on the go or all around the house now with 2 kids also is just awesome to me.

I gotta say thank you for sharing your journey through all this. I'm a stay at home father of 3. You've caused me to do some much needed self reflecting of my own. But I'm right there with you in regards to keeping up with all the AAA next Gen gaming. Its unrealistic and would be unhealthy as a father.

@@julienmelnicksteam can give that same feeling. I try to never but a game that's not on a deep discounted sale I've bought more games in the last three months than I have the last three years all due to the steamdeck and my wish listing games and getting notified when they go on sale. it's exciting, just like collecting the real cartridges although that gives a better feeling being able to hold them in your hand.

I definitely understand the sentiment and respect you prioritizing time with your family above all else, but you dont gotta sell these consoles just cause you have less time to play them. It seems to consistently lead to you just buying them again when a new exciting exclusive gets announced lol

I got home yesterday after the gym and sat on the couch after dinner. Played diablo 4////// Spent time with my girlfriend and......... tested my air pods and clan chat and I was able to also have conversations in game and spend time with my girl without closing myself off in my office. I have play diablo 4 campaign and story probably mostly on my steam deck. I am finding after a long day or when work is slow it is so easy to use my steam deck.

The impulse is to jump to the newest thing but it doesn’t mean you’re gonna finish that particular new game. We are so overwhelmed with what to play everything on that it makes me miss the feeling of being limited to what you just have and making the best gaming experience out of it even if the graphics aren’t the best. That to me is the key needed to make gaming feel special again. All these outlets of systems with statiscal infrastructure like trophies and achievements and end of the year wrap up data and cloud gaming keep some people stagnant in playing games cause they fall into the loop of what system should the game be played on and like me they start playing a game all over multiple times to satisfy the reason of owning those systems. I do agree with the convenience the steam deck and Nintendo handheld solutions bring because as life hits everyone with different scenarios some are no longer able to be strapped to the tv playing games for 4 hrs plus like when they were younger. It took me 5 months to finish spiderman remastered from start and stopping on ps5 and steam, working hrs , choosing whether to get rest or play the game , distraction of newer games on different systems I own and the horrible pace of that game with those stealth missions. Slimming down what u have will bring focus and true appreciation particular games you normally sway from to go to something new.

oh your so close but I think you still just don't see it. you have time for those big triple a titles. jefi, Hogwarts legacy, any of them if you play them on the steam deck. you can play them with your family, you need to stop, hit the power button. I saves right where you were. come back 5 minutes, an hour, a day, turn it on, it takes off right where you were. so you can enjoy those titles in small chunks. I don't have to play just one till your done when it comes to those big titles. you can go back and forth. the deck allows that console experience without being tied down to the console. you can sub PC for console and it's the same. there are also thousands of older titles that have short gameplay as well. the problem with today's AAA games is that most of those companies can no longer give you epic story or epic gameplay, they just want to push they're ideology. it's why current AAA games are struggling and companies losing millions but that is for a completely different topic lol.

I think we’re gonna witness the return of console exclusives because of steam deck. Sony had ALWAYS been hesitant about porting (and do it badly), but now that steam pulled a major upset with a platform that is portable and plays current gen Sony, Microsoft, + all emulators, they kinda pulled off a clean sweep. If Microsoft or PlayStation tried to release their own proprietary portable consoles now, their catalogs would be so limited compared to steam that unless the specs were mind blowing or ps games became all exclusive, or buying games on it were heavily discounted, they have no chance of competing.
