Mikey pipes is the best. Thank you for the education on heating as it is clear I'm getting scammed. We have a 100 year old pipes in my fathers old Brooklyn house. The boiler/furnace is very old, we think 1940s but works. Wet return? News to me. I'm adding water everyday and everyone I'm speaking to tells me I need a new boiler. However, as you say, where does the water go? Once the basement is cleaned out I'm going to have someone check the wet return as I do not see a new boiler or water adding device fixing the problem as the missing water is the issue. You make it so everyone can understand the real issue!!! I wish you serviced Brooklyn. Thanks for all the videos, Herb in Brooklyn.

woah at 26:23 on stuck pipe wrench, just use pump pliers or smaller pipe wrench to back the adjuster nut off, it doesn't take much to loosen them. lucky you didn't break the cast fitting beating on the wrench, then banging to remove it. lol

Where that 2" tee is should be two 90 degree elbows, a "swing joint", not really a big deal, but sometimes the boiler tappings are off a little and can cause condensate to pile up in the header and bring water up to the system and cause all banging noises. Of course it doesn't have to be, but I always keep my "Equalizer line 2" also like you mentioned. Those press fittings are time saving for sure, but there are many situations where you just cannot get that huge tool to fit LoL! (😂) I am old school and love to get my Ridgid 400A machine out and start threading! Also, I have done it myself, whacking the pipe wrench to remove a 100 year old pipe can crack the that 2" x 1" 90, it's best to just heat it up and will spin out like butter. But then again, new age plumbers are anti torches! Lmao! J/k

Hey mike great job man I just did a big wells McLain steam boiler in cranbury nj and it sucked! Not only trying to take apart to god knows how old 3” pipe with 5ft pipe wrenches and three guys but getting the block in the basement that weighed approx 980lbs by itself which we had to build a ramp on the bilco steps (thank god they had them) and build a sled for the block and back it down with one of our work trucks a few inches at a time, very intense, stressful, insane job all the way thru that thankfully we don’t run into ever! But regardless of all that I feel your pain and appreciate and understand how uneasy and labor intensive working with steam is! It’s hard for anyone who dosent do this work to understand it from a KZfaq video from being hands on with it! I liked your comment about the bottle vents by the 90s as I had to replace the ones that were existing in the house I was working in! Literally everything with steam especially old steam pipes is such a pain in ass to have to take apart! Love your videos bro! If you have a PO please add it in a response i would love to send you a shirt from my company! Don’t know what youd use it for, don’t kno I want to lol!!! That job came out really nice. Being the boiler needs to be replaced would you ever pitch to the client a steam to hydronic conversion? If the rads could be converted to hot water how would the $$ compare to the wet return replacement to abandoning the wet return and convert to hydronic when you replace the boiler.

Do you think that steam is more efficient in general? My grandparents seems like the boiler barely runs yet its very comfortable in the house. We are all taught that a hot water system or radiant is way more efficient but I am really not so sure. I guess it really depends on the house. Just looking to see what you have experienced.

I'm researching this. Seems it's rare to have new systems installed. I have allergies and haven't used my forced air system in 11 years, only an indoor wood stove. If I have to have all the pipes put in for water heat, why not just use steam instead? I really like the super hot radiant heat. Boiler heat just can't get there.

Good job Mike and crew, not sure how long the press fittings work at extreme conditions, but when I work for a registered master plumber, we had to thread everything, I threaded the pipe, while the plumber installed it, he would take measurements and mark the pipe while I would cut and thread, I know I'm a bad guy to Dan, but wish you wouldn't talk bad about people"s sisters, because my sister has stage 3 cancer and had to have her ovaries and lady parts taken out of her body and has to keep take chemotherapy to stay alive, it's not a joke when you almost lose someone you care about, not trying to judge no one but you use to say you would give people cement shoes, I know you were just joking, but when I tried to joke with Dan about you, I get the third degree from him, seems hypocritical.
