24 years ago I first arrived in the United Kingdom. The first place I wanted to visit was Buckingham Palace and the Westminster area. Then I traveled the United Kingdom, Scotland, Ireland...I fell in love very much. These are on the first place in my soul, then Norway, Sweden, Spain, Croatia, France and Italy follow. But why the United Kingdom Wife and Ireland in the first place?! Because you know how to take care of your history in all areas. The icing on the cake are these magnificent locomotives and many others, pure P-40 Warhawk history. When I was a child, at school during breaks, I would take donuts and go up on the footbridge and watch the locomotives working and pass under the footbridge and "eat donuts with smoke". I can't forget ..... I am subscribed to you and I look forward to the next filmings. Thank you and good luck.

All I can say to the Controller of BR is bravo sir for taking the decision to allow these beautiful locomotives to once again stretch their legs on BR metals. And lets face it, they are beautiful....the smell, the sound, the sight of a steam locomotive in motion is unsurpassed. I do hope that this continues, and that more and more they become a familiar sight on the railways. They have absolutely earned that right.

Wow, fantastic! Thanks so much for this, what brilliant sights and sounds. We are so lucky in this country to have so many preserved locomotives, and lucky to have people like yourself that go to a lot of trouble to film them. So good to see these machines stretching their legs. Hopefully it will not be too long before you will be able to see Pendennis Castle out and about - reacquainting herself to British rails once more, even better both her and the Flying Scotsman meeting up once again. Absolutely stunning video collection, thanks again!

Albert Draper in Hull Yorkshire got the contract to scrap over 700 locos. Used to see them lined up as I went to work each morning, mid 60's. He spared ONE loco, a Black 5, and named it after himself. A lot of Peppercorns, like new-build Tornado went through his hands. All gone....

It's wonderful to see that, when the steam locomotive needs assistance from a diesel, you folks in the Mother Country have the good sense to place the diesel at the END of the train. Here in the States, the diesel is almost always directly behind the steam locomotive... and sometimes in front of it! No, I'm not making this up!
@markturner4219
@markturner4219 6 жыл бұрын
The diesels are there for a variety of reasons but assisting isn't generally one of them. Most common reasons are for providing power to the rolling stock services such as air con and electric train heating. Also depends on facilities at the destination as, of course, many of the destinations don't have run round and turning facilities which were the norm in the days of steam, so may be used for stock handling and positioning. Sometimes depending on timetables the diesel will take the stock on somewhere else while the steam loco returns to somewhere different. No doubt in an emergency the diesel might be pressed into service, but that is not why they are there and they run on idle being towed. On some of the trains you can notice that an end carriage has been converted into a generating car for the same reason.

Great video, chaps! I've watched a few of yours, on preserved lines and on the main line. All to the same 10/10 quality. Now, it may seem a silly question, but why do 'the authorities' seem to think a diesel is required sometimes, but not every time? Greetings from Southampton!

Looks pretty in the video, I remember at Reading steam shed on a cold November morning when you line up in front of the foreman and he gives you a job card and written on it is to do a valve and piston overhaul on one of them big four cylinder dirty steamers, tends to knock the smile off your face, was so nice to be transferred to the diesel sheds when they opened up, much more pleasant environment to spend your day, these old steamers are long gone thank the Lord.

@Tabourba All the steam sheds I have worked in cannot compare to the new diesel sheds and facilities for their workers, like showers and decent cooking arrangements, more like home for us apprentices, depends on you attitude and upbringing I suppose !!
@keithparker5103
@keithparker5103 4 жыл бұрын
@@sadelsor You are comparing the facilities, not the locomotives. After working for many years at Derby loco. works on steam and diesel I can tell you that steam loco's, although heavy were mostly dusty dirt. Try changing a fuel injection pump on a Sulzer engine with 1000s of hours behind it. Thick black SMELLY gunk, ugh ! With decent facilities, given the choice, I would go back to steam.
