Thanks for that Memory. My family would all get together and get on the Port Welcome and go to Betterton. Its really ashame that places like Betterton, Tolchester, Chesapeake Beach, and Gwynn Oak are gone. That was a very enjoyable time.

How times have changed--see how nice everyone is dressed, not a slob in the group. I was in high school then! Such great color too!

Thanks... That must have been before the "Bay Bell"... She wasn't a steamer. When I was a kid we took the Bay Bell over 100 week-ends, leaving the inner-harbor on Saturday going to Betterton Beach after a brief stop at Tolchester. We would spend the night and return on Sunday almost every weekend during many summers while school was out. Great Memories!!

July , 1960 was the last time we went to Tolchester on that boat .....many times after that on our own boat.....oh , the memories ...My daughter was 5 years old with a broken arm......I could actually run up the hill , for a good table .....and danced over and back ....with Joe Baldwin , boy could he jitterbug .....

My mother often spoke of this, that she did with her mother when she was young.

Tolchester was a fun place to go in the summer. Nice film - but was disappointed that they did not show the "Whirl-Pool-Dip" - the roller coaster. It was of frame construction - and would creak and groan as the cars went up and around - and the whole structure would sway a bit. First time I went on it I think I was 10 and my grandfather was 80 and held me in. I was scared. I agree that it is TOO bad these places are gone - and yes, the people shown here were nicely dressed!

If I remember correctly, from my trip in 1959, the train ride was extremely bumpy. I went the summer after third grade at All Saints Elementary school. Father Walker made the announcement before the end of the school year.

That was a great video! It brought back fond memories of when I was a kid in the 1950s and we often took the Bay Belle to Tolchester. I remember the little steam train and the big swings, as well as the electric cars and boats and other rides. I also remember the bowling alley with rubber band duckpins and human pinsetters. I'd like to find pictures of the steam engine on the Bay Belle - still looking. Thanks!

The Bay Belle Is still active. She is working out New York. She has had a name change. She is known as the Duchess

To clarify, we went by boat to Tolchester. The rides at the park were very old. I think the train track was worn out.

My apologies! ... The Bay Belle what is a steamer but I believe that it was a bit more modern than the original boat that went to Tolchester. The Bay Belle always stopped at Tolchester Beach first, and then went on to Betterton Beach where it would remain docked for at least 3 to 4 hours before making her return trip every Saturday and Sunday each Summer...

if im right i bealive by train thay had hand carts platform with handles you can have to people pulling handles up and down on track no moter lot of mem there and also at bettern beach also
