Very interested in this. No RNG? Actually caring about tank/map balance? Consistent game mechanics? Yes, please. Sad to see what happened to World of Tanks. When I first started playing (2014), it was so fun that I hardly played anything else. Eventually it got too hard to ignore the flaws when it seemed like every update just made them bigger. I miss what it was.

looking at gamedesign flaws in the big two games is a great idea, being a very experienced but tired warthunder player i cant help but to notice the obvious flaws of the standard gamemodes it had for years

I think it's a case of _authentic_ v. _realistic_ here. Getting too realistic definitely starts to suck pretty fast in a game, especially in competitive multiplayer. Being realistic where you can but otherwise aiming for a feeling of authenticity (so not not arcade-y, just for a start) is the trick. Anyways, that looks pretty cool so far. Especially the part about a PvE mode.

I am really excited for this game. I've been an avid WT player for several years now, and while I have had fun at times, the game play has grown stale, especially in ground battles. Steel Aces is also promising what many WT players have been begging Gaijin to give them for years, a tank only game mode, and I'm here for it. One thing I really hope that Steel Aces corners the market on though, is robust tank based PvE content. That is something that I think has been missing from these types of games. Armored Warfare had a PvE mode that wasn't terrible, but you can tell that they didn't put that much effort into it. The last tank themed games that really put an effort into PvE content was Battletanx and Battletanx Global Assault on the N64 and Reign of Fire on the PS2. There are also some PC titles, but those aren't exactly welcoming to the casual player. If games like Helldivers is any indication, PvE is making a comeback, and if Steel Aces can adapt their model to something like that, they will attract a lot of players. I personally would love the opportunity to get a few of my friends together and just wreck shop for a few hours with some good robust tank on tank PvE matchups.

I think it would be good to establish the year of contact on each map which would automatically exclude any vehicles invented later. If you make the year a per game variable it would allow you to use each map for different eras.

Yes, keep the test range with tanks. Maybe later on even add the ability for the bots to fire back (if you choose). I know one of my initial main problems with WoT was that there was no way to practice anything to get better or understand what was going on. I spent hundreds of games learning what I was doing, all at the expense of my team and aggravation... 😁

"Battlezone" ... the tank arcade game of the 1980s with the periscope? We didn't care for that one very much because we thought that it was too rigged. I wonder how much it would cost to reverse engineer and build those old Atari arcade games?

I started playing WoT at launch and did the grind for years. It quickly became an arcade game rather than a historic tank sim so I quietly quit and stayed away for years. Recently I logged in to WoT and played for a couple days and it was worse than ever in those regards, especially with bonds equipment etc etc where heavies were almost as fast as some light tanks and light tanks bounce shots from my Jg.Pz. E100 with gold ammo?! If you don't play it like an arcade game it's over in a hurry - and the maps and tanks have been buffed to make each game as short as possible in order for us to use as many credits as possible for consumables etc etc. Such a shame since I'm a tank aficionado... Steel Aces sounds promising implementing more realistic ballistics etc (as a long range shooter and hunter, and avid reloader, I know all about ballistics!) and a lean towards historical and realistic scenarios. I just signed up for beta testing and that's something I never do usually... ;)

Love the balistics in the game. Bit disappointed that they went with HP for the tanks. Was hoping for an alternative to warthunder RB. Get the bigger aiming circle in third person when driving un-stabilized tanks, but why does the leo have it?

I was playing WoT since late 2010, War Thunder, Armored Warfare also... I applied two times to beta of Steel Aces. Never heard from team both times. 😒 And yes i checked my spam folder. 😂

It looks really good, I always hated how World Of Tanks put in rng into the gameplay, as if live action online gameplay isnt enough luck. I played it today for a couple of hours and I had a really bad streak of luck where I was aiming fully at weakspots etc using my 10 years of experience with the game and nothing was working, bad luck streaks make me depressed or stressed because I know Im wasting my time and the same things when I have a really good luck streak it doesnt feel rewarding, it isnt sporting. Gaming should be a positive experience, gambling is shallow and designed to rip people off, WoT is more gambling than gaming these days theres definitely hidden rng that makes 15-5 games happen for quicker turnaround, its a dishonest game. Steel Aces seems to avoid all those concerns in its better design, I will definitely play it, thankyou for the well presented informative videos Sofilein you do a great job 🙂

Can’t wait to see this give the entire tank gaming genre a good kick in the butt with something fresh and enjoyable without it feeling like either a cash grab or the in-game matches being over polluted with both ground and air craft destroying the great dynamic that ground warfare itself already brings to the table. The other armored warfare games like world of tanks and war thunder have become EXTREMELY predatory with their premium upgrades and solo focusing their products instead of the games enjoyability or even stability at times and if this game can take advantage of this and show tanks fans that there’s a game company out there that still values their enjoyment and time over piles of cash then I have a feeling that it will definitely crack the veil that players have had to cover their eyes with to get little drops of enjoyment from the other games and let them both finally play a game they can enjoy and stick it to the greedy companies and teach them all a lesson about not valuing their customers like they should have

I'm sure World of Tanks will move on without Chiana playing as much as the world will still keep spinning no matter what war is happening in the world.

Are there plans to include other ballistic models for APFSDS? How fleshed out will the composite Armor work? Do you include FEM or something like SY Simulations (YT-Channel) findings for the more modern stuff? Tungsten/DU rods arent that good on angled armor, their penetration goes very sideways as it bends and goes off in some random directions.Maybe thats a bit too real for fun ingame, but you should consider it.

"no premium RNG mechanics" > *proceeds to use HP system anyways* I don't want to be hater and I'm excited for this game, but I really don't understand what niche this fills We have the arcade sector locked down tightly by WoT (and AW to an extent), and the slightly more realistic part by WT, whereas the real hardcore gamers will play IL-2 or Steel Beast to get their WW2/Modern sim fix. The models and everything look great, but a game is still a money investment, and insanely expensive Patreon packs alone won't keep the game running. So what will it be then? WoT grind to suffer or pay if I don't want my tank to be objectively worse, or WT progression where some tanks are more or less placed in positions in the tech tree just to troll the player?

If you are trying to attract the same player-base as World of Tanks, I can agree with the thinking surrounding balance and game play... but that isn't the whole interest base. I actually stopped playing WoT because I dislike the ranges, but also the hit-point model approach. Not saying it's bad or good, just not me. I prefer a WarThunder approach to armour and gunnery, but think it can be improved primarily through maps. Just worth noting as an idea. I think there is scope for a variety of player options, but it will mean competition in that space no matter which way you go. Having said that, I am in the rare subset of players that prefers a-symmetric balance, historical focus and difficulty, and playing against competent AI. Maybe not a great representation :p

The closer a game gets to real life war, the less fun it becomes. Seriously, War is not fun, and the closer these guys get to that, the less fun it becomes. This game looks like it might have promise. I noticed they are using the War Thunder Damage model. I loved that hit screen in the upper right corner.
