can anyone tell me why I cant monetise this video when its all my content and it tells me it contains 3rd party content? or does anyone have an email or point of contact for youtube?! not just a link that takes you to a forum that you have to search thousands of questions trying to find out what you want to know? come on youtube how about some customer service! well balls to the few quid these videos generate. To all viewers - enjoy the video without the ads, and as always thanks for watching!

Good shooting. We just started shooting 700 yds for Independence Day. We were using a 300 Win Mag and 308 Win rifles. It is tough shooting that far. I can only go out to 750 yds in my back yard. Some day we may make it that far.

Top shooting fella. Take it they are Hardox steel otherwise they'd look like a golf ball after a few shots! Had a plink/fun with my HMR at the weekend on the round steel type target you normally use but didn't push any further than 160m/175 yards which is way past what I would shoot Charlie's. Mark, if you've got access to a welder, you can add some sort of "shelf" of steel plate sticking out the back of the crossbar on that target. This will give something for the two plates to run into and stop them swinging right around and tangling up on you. Only took me a year to post this LOL
@260rips
@260rips 6 жыл бұрын
g00167015 not a bad idea 👍 I’ll probably just do the same thing but with a bit of wire so it’s easy to replace if it takes a round! Cheers for the tip 😉
@g00167015
@g00167015 6 жыл бұрын
260rips The reason I thought of the shelf is because you can put oranges or coke cans etc on top of it to give you a couple more bits to go at........all the while, the two plates will clatter against the underside of the shelf each time they are hit. 👌

Hi, wondering if you have particular mounts on your rifle or scopes. Trying to get a similar setup to swap between cobra centaur nv and day scope, the local gun shop is saying it won't work. Did you have to do anything special to be able to do it. Also I notice you missed the first few with the 223 is that due to the change of zero or was it due to the distance? Any chance of you doing a quick video or just explaining what point of impact shift at 100or 200m you would expect? Cheers in advance Sam.
@260rips
@260rips 7 жыл бұрын
MiNe Yours Hi mate I use Leopold quick release lever mounts. You will need a picatinny rail on your rifle and some form or quick release mount on your nv. I use a drone pro nv which is supplied with a quick release mount. Both scopes hold zero no problem. With the 223 I was using factory ammo and a phone app. I've not taken it out that far before. I fired a couple of rounds at the dirt first to see bullet strike before walking the rounds onto the target. As it happens the app was spot on with its predicted drop👍

@260rips, What camera/lens/scope do you use for your long range shots?
@Afro408
@Afro408 7 жыл бұрын
Great shooting there, 260 Rips, but I noticed at 9:09, when you changed the scopes and pulled the unit 'back' into battery on the pic rail. It should be pushed forward, so the recoil lug in the scope ring, is up against its respective slot on the rail. It may not make any difference on the likes of a 223, but if you were setting it on your 260, or a viewer does that on his 308 etc, then the first shot fired would slam the scope forward a tiny bit. I have seen pic rails flogged out from this happening. Was this deliberate or slips? :)
@260rips
@260rips 7 жыл бұрын
Tony Small You got me there I wasn't aware that could happen, thanks! I've not noticed it move on the 223 or 260 but I will certainly keep that in mind 👍
@Afro408
@Afro408 7 жыл бұрын
No worries mate. I've been repairing, building and customising rifles for fourty odd years now, and I notice little things like that. ;) Something else that I noticed with that change over ( not a criticism ) is that when you tightened the rear QD ring, the front of the scope lifted off the rail. To me, this points the the fact that the rings need to be lapped, so that the scope tube is will be held in alignment. At the moment, your scope body is under stress and that can effect the internal workings and may lead to unaccountable loss of zero. To lapp the rings, remove the scope from the rings, but leave the bases attached to the rail. I use a straight piece of 25mm dia bright steel bar, with one layer of 240# wet or dry emery paper wrapped around it. This then measures 1" dia and is rubbed back and forth in the lower rings, until you get at least 80% contact at the bottom of the rings. You can then mount the scope and know that it is not being stressed in any way.

@260rips
@260rips 6 жыл бұрын
Chris X thank you! Both cals will shoot well long range. The 260 and other 6.5 cals have become very popular with their excellent ballistics. 308 has the advantage of being available in more factory rifles and good choice of factory Ammo though! My 260 is a custom rifle built on a rem 700 action in an aics stock. I’m using handloaded 143 grain eld bullets which with a moderate load will do around 2800 FPS.

Mark Allen To be honest I had a 6.5x55 I found a great all round cal and when deciding on building a custom rifle I was planing to keep the same cal until my gunsmith suggested the 260 as he had one and it performed very well. This was several years ago when the 260 was very unheard of, since then it has become quite popular along with similar 6.5 calibres such as the creedmoor 👍

Mark when you change the scope over is there any change of zero. Would you be confident at dropping Charlie at those ranges with a .243?
@260rips
@260rips 7 жыл бұрын
Richard Mather No with quick release mounts on a picatinny rail there is no shift in zero. As far as shooting foxes with a 243 at 700 yards that as with any rifle depends on how well you know it's ballistics! If it shoots accurately and you know the drops, if the weather conditions are suitable then yes. With a 100 grain bullet the 243 can perform equally well to the 260 with its 140 grainers.

@260rips

rimotu66 Yes my preferred scope is nightforce. This is an mtc viper on my 223. As I mainly use my 223 for shorter range foxing with a night scope I only use a cheap day scope on it, that said the viper is excellent value for money and also works well with the sniper cam 👍

Hi Mark, Glad to see you've got the new barrel on the 260... See you went with the 1-8 twist this time. Are you planning on Shooting the ELD-X? or are you still shooting the AMAX? My 260 is almost built BTW... Just waiting for the barrel to be shipped. Went with a Criterion 260 Rem Match (1-8 twist) Varmint contour @ 25". Will be topped with a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 FFP MOA-2 reticle. and it's in a Pro Varmint Laminate stock.Just wanted to say Thanks to you for being the inspiration behind my 260. Now if I could just shoot as good as you.... LOL!!

Thanks for the kind words on my setup... Had to go Savage action though as Lefty bolt actions are unobtainium in either Remington or Savage. Had to buy a brand new rifle just to strip in down for the build I wanted. I'm still 10+ weeks out from receiving the barrel, but will try to update you on my ELD-X load development and results, if you haven't already started your load testing.... Cheers to you also. :-)

S Hardison Yes they hard to get hold of, tikka t3 is a good action which is what my 223 originally was and my 260 was built with an old lh rem700 bdl action from an old 22-250

SA Feral Shooter does temperature affect the bullets flight i.e freezing cold day as opposed to red hot conditions?
@cyclo360
@cyclo360 7 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, Yes....Temp will affect some powders , if its a very hot day powder when heated will raise working pressures within the cartridge upon firing. This will cause a bullet to impact higher than if you were to fire the same load during a very cold day causing the bullet to impact lower. If you work up a maximum load during winter its always best to drop the powder charge by a couple of grains when used in summer to avoid overpressure a (ruptured case) Also , the point of impact will rise (not taking into account powder pressures) if you shoot during a cold moist winters day compared to the bullet impacting a little lower during a dry hot day. Some powders such as the Australian ADI and Hodgon which is manufactured by ADI are temperature tolerant and are resistant to changes in pressure caused by hot or cold climates. cheers.

Hi great videos.i have just ventured from air rifles to 17 hmr. How do you dispose of your quarry.
@260rips
@260rips 6 жыл бұрын
ken paterson some farmers like to see the results and I leave them in an allocated place, often the farmer will throw them in a slurry pit or dead bin. Many shooters will simply throw them into thick undergrowth away from footpaths etc, in summer they will quickly decompose. If possible they should be buried

Many thanks for your quick response. Up till now I have been giving the pigeons and rabbits to the farmers for dog food or the local scout group. You make the long range work look easy. I know I’m going to have problems. 😀

ken paterson pigeons and rabbits you can often sell to local butchers, bird sanctuary’s for their birds of prey or maybe a local zoo. I sell rabbits and pigeons to a local zoo or butchers. You normally get a £1 a rabbit gutted but in their skins, head shot.

How far can you stretch your 223 out accurately
@260rips
@260rips 7 жыл бұрын
Scott Morgans Good question, I would say a good 500 yards for consistent hits. This rifle was built to fire light bullets and ideally for out to little more than 300 yards with its shorter barrel. If I were looking to build a 223 for longer range say to 1000 yards I'd be looking to launch the heavier bullets 👍
