The heavy duty steel wood and aluminum picnic table (patio table or garden table if you prefer) CONCLUDES construction AND ASSEMBLY in this video - PART 2 or 2. to say that it is heavy duty is an understatement! Made out out 5/8" thick steel plate with welded and bolted construction, pressure treated boards make up the tops and bench seating as well as 1.5"x1.5" aluminum tube accents.... the entire assembly is at the very Least HEAVY!
as you can see we had a little mistake that needed correction... this is what happens when you try to rush a project. luckily i had THE EXACT number of threaded inserts i needed to make the repair to the bench spreader tubes to make everything work out. the repairs to all 12 ends of the tubes took several hours, so the assembly which should have been rather quick and simple ended up taking 2 days!!
my wife makes the rare appearance in this video as my trusty helper!! she did a great job!!

Excellently engineered, when the garden party gets in full swing and you start dancing on the table it's not going to collapse.

thanks James, for me it is just another material... metal, wood, plastic.... its all the same to me. thinking about possibly offering this table as a "kit" but not sure how that would work... 12 hours of water jetting @140/hr is VERY expensive! glad you like it

Maybe a thinner material will make it worth a kit form. This thing is absolutely beautiful.

Ray looks great, nice to have a helper to get it done. Most definitely plug those end caps, and maybe clear coat the aluminium. But love the color of the base...redwood top would be nice to...have a great weekend.

yeah i would love to get some cypress for the top, but cedar would be my second choice after Redwood. im thinking of taking the aluminum to the powder coated to clear coat so i dont get any oxidation on them

VERY Nice set, Ray! I've liked that "old machine stand" look for a while now, and you really nailed it. I only have one concern, and that's with the aluminum box section in the seats. I just can't imagine truckin' up to the table and plopping myself down on one of those hot metal strips when they've been sitting in the sun all day long. OUCH!!! Talk about a hot seat!
@RayMAKES
@RayMAKES 7 жыл бұрын
you know i had that SAME concern... so as an experiment before putting the aluminum in the seat, i put a piece of aluminum in the sun and a piece of wood.... left them for several hours on a very sunny hot day.... the results were counter-intuitive!! the WOOD was hotter than the aluminum. i suspect the small mass of the aluminum dissipates heat much better than the wood. so no worries about burning the butt!!

Beautiful, I might have to translate your design into something more DIY friendly. No Wazer here :)
@RayMAKES
@RayMAKES 7 жыл бұрын
lol, the Wazer would be too small, on my full size waterjet it took 12 hours of cutting. glad you liked it. i'm sure you can make it into a wood or plywood version... maybe concrete?

Really Nice Design! I would never sit something this pretty on a gravel drive. It should be inside the house as a dining room table. Great Job! I wish I had a machine like that. How much does the table weigh?

What was the cost?
@RayMAKES
@RayMAKES 7 жыл бұрын
QUITE ALOT! just the materials alone: steel, aluminum, wood, hardware and powder coating was $900. that does not include waterjet time which is about $1800, not does it include my labor for grinding welding and machining (probably another $1800).
