The reviews and positive outcomes for this product were very convincing. The bottle costs about $90 for a four cylinder engine.
Symptoms Prior:
Subarus are known for very early head gasket failure. Unless you drive only highway miles, you'll probably only reach about 150,000 miles before your passenger side head gasket fails in the lower rear part. This particular Subaru Impreza WRX has over 160,000 miles and gets mostly local miles, which means the head gasket should've rotted away already. Sometimes the coolant would go missing, the coolant itself would bubble, and the exhaust smelled like it was running on coolant. Without the time or money to properly repair this head gasket, I figured why not try this miracle product....so one kind viewer suggested I update this, and I wish to add that the car now had about 177,000 miles, and the head gasket is still not leaking. Therefore, I conclude that it worked because I no longer have a smell of coolant, and the coolant no longer magically disappears. If it does leak anywhere else, anyone could tell if it were from a hose or something because these engines are so crammed that weird things fail and just need replacement. Regardless, this car is alive, runs great, and one day I'll make more videos about it. I would definitely use Steel Seal again, and I'm just a regular guy like all of you with no paid endorsements at all. Thanks for watching my videos.

It was for D.L. not you, but thank you. Steel Seal is nothing to me I just use it over time 5-6. It worked for me and the guarantee is, does.'t work they send another. If something doesn't work I call the company good rule of thumb for me. Thanks again, Have a great Thanksgiving

Good video!! The head gasket seems to be watertight that's rare for a Subaru boxer.... Don 't think you killed the waterpump with the steelseal, waterpump seal is dynamic and not static.... Did you ever replaced the pump and or what happend later???

it will overheat eventually, when its cold it leaks a little but once it gets hot it will stop, keep checking radiator you will see water level dropping. i think the best way to use any of them, is to flush it out add only water and your chosen stop leak, then drain and add clean antifreeze. antifreeze is oily !.

I'll make an updated video one day.....You're right about the leaking, but that's for all cars. Eventually, they will all overheat if you do nothing about it. This car overheated occasionally, but now it doesn't, and it was never because of low coolant, it was just on blazing hot days. Last I checked, the coolant lasts a little longer. I am making no claims about this product. This was just me trying it out. So far the head gasket hasn't failed.

@myfamilyalbum1020
@myfamilyalbum1020 6 жыл бұрын
The directions had nothing about leaving it in for 24 hours, but I left it in for a few days or weeks. I don't remember. The directions seemed to indicate that it worked from the heat of the engine because I had to drive at certain speeds for a certain amount of miles, and then check the fluid level. The directions also included a part about the fluid going down after the initial drive, and then it wasn't supposed to go down anymore. Currently, I lose a few drops a month and the smell of coolant is still there, but not like before. I'll probably try this experiment again, but with better ways of showing the progress for everyone to see.

Interesting video, I've been researching steel seal to find out if this stuff really works. Was your car overheating prior to adding steel seal ?
@myfamilyalbum1020
@myfamilyalbum1020 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, is would occasionally overheat on hot days in the northeast. Hot like 90°+F. Today was like 80°F and I drove around all day with no overheating. I was considering using this again because Subaru head gaskets are supposed to go bad around 150,000 miles, and I'm approaching 170 something thousand. In this video, I don't know at the time how effective this chemical was, but if I use it again, and my head gasket lasts even longer, I'd say it works. Then again, I also have a Subaru Legacy, and the head gasket went around 193,000 miles, mostly highway. That head gasket leaked visibly from the driver's side head, where they always tend to fail first. I never put this product in the Legacy.
@dukeman7595
@dukeman7595 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Why not put a set of head gaskets on , their cheaper than the steel seal, however, that's if you do the labor yourself. Are the heads accessible , or are they hard to get to ?
@myfamilyalbum1020
@myfamilyalbum1020 7 жыл бұрын
Well, the Subaru flat four cylinder heads, especially in the Impreza WRX, are difficult to access. Removing the engine makes this easier, but time consuming. The head gasket itself may cost less, but regardless of whether or not I do the work myself, I still should resurface the heads and block. Knowing me, I would end up going crazy and begin some while I'm in there mods and bore out the block and put o-rings on the heads and crap. Speaking of which, I actually already did this with another block in preparation for the head gasket failure. The Steel Seal was an attempt at prolonging the inevitable demise of this engine while I rebuild the new one. If this were an inline engine, I'd rather just change the head gasket, like on a 4G63 or something because that's much easier and less time consuming than on an engine with two heads.

Thanks. The engine has almost 170,000 miles and the head gasket seems to still work. These engines tend to leak at that gasket around 150,000 miles. So this may have done something. We'll see after my timing belt video.

You're right. Many parts of Subarus are rather inexpensive. As these vehicles get older, the parts seem to go down in price, and they tend to still perform well even while dying. They will be to future generations what mid 90s Hondas were to ricers, which isn't a bad thing, even though Hondas suck now.........yea I said it................ All cars suck, even Subarus...........the quality of their parts is shit.

I have tried Bar's leaks head gasket repair. First application worked only for a bit but the second aplication seems to be holding. When I applied it a second time I followed instructions to the letter and then left the product in the system and didn't turn on the car at all for a few days. I think in our cars (I have an '05 WRX) it helps to let the product sit undisturbed for a few days so it has time to settle.

Back in the day, cars didn't last beyond 100,000 miles, which was the reason the odometer was missing a digit. I have a Legacy where the head gasket failed completely around 196,000 miles with no sealer whatsoever. I mean the coolant poured out of the driver's side head. I replaced both with OEM gaskets, and so far so good. I'm riding these cars until the wheels fall off. Subarus have great designs, just shitty parts.
