We are showing the setup and rig that we most commonly use when fishing for Columbia river steelhead in slack or slow moving water. This setup can be used in many applications and locations but works exceptionally well for steelhead above McNary dam.

I wrote an article in salmon trout steelhead magazine years ago on how to troll for steelhead at McNary. The numbers of fish aren’t close to what we had 20 years ago. I hope they make a comeback.

Me too! I grew up fishing steelhead with my dad and man it used to be a blast when we had numbers

For sure, I remember fishing off the rock by the green light above McNary. We just spend the nights there so we could get the best spot in the morning. Other times fish at night trolling slow in the boat using a lightning vortex wiggle wart. Was cold sometimes.

Great video man. I remember when my dad used to take me out on his boat above mcnary dam and we would bobber troll for steelhead. I miss getting good numbers of fish coming up the dam.

Thanks for the video. Do you ever use roe under a float, or the shrimp works best? Does this rig work to catch kings and coho too? I'd like to target them and steelhead at the same time, but it seems like most people go for the kings with flashers and spinners or brad's baits.
