Good video Stef. I used to think that my fancy dancing skills with JavaScript and c# were sooo important. Then I learned that clients don’t give a crap if I use angular or react, nor if I’ve set up my domain layers elegantly. They care about the ui/ux. Due to lack of budget and my lack of ui/ux skills I will ask client what websites they like in terms of design…then I extract something from there. Personally, I am getting more intrinsically interested in ui/ux and want to improve. I have taken up an interest in photography and wow I just had no idea how much design creativity goes into a photo (it’s much more than taking the lens cap off hitting the button haha)

Very useful info! I'm an email developer (aka "1999 front-end developer") and I've learned a lot of these design principles through experience, working with designers. Alignment and "breathing room" are indeed very important.

This answers some of my questions regarding design as a web developer freelancer. For some reason I assumed "design" meant drawing out designs and complicated stuff with different types of hardware/software (more sophisticated stuff). This sounds more like basic page layout and color schemes, which comes naturally to me

I can build good ui, but can't built pretty ui. Sucks when people want pretty UI. I don't have time for doing graphic design using photoshop.
