This was really the first time he got a real focus. "Balance of Mercy", his role wasn't as a focus of the story, just an insert to highlight the difference in the timeline. Here, he gets to be Kirk fully, and the episode is completely focused on Kirk and La'an. Which is a bonus because La'an really isn't focused on too much, either, so letting Christina Chong get to shine, and both these characters specifically in the same episode, was kind of brilliant by the writers.

I agree she's awesome, but Paul Wesley IS chemistry everywhere he goes, so I'm not surprised this is such a great match up.

I loved La'an from the start. Christina Chong is a great actress.

I think they did it very well. La'an has carried around some ugly family history in the form of a genocidal killer madman her whole life. No matter who or what she has proven about herself, you likely never live down somebody like Khan, but... She didn't let that stop her from joining Starfleet and working her way all the way up to bridge crew. She didn't let that stop her from getting onto the Enterprise under living legend Captain Pikes command, who obviously trusts her implicitly. She has friends, also, but it's a good point that she has trouble getting truly close to people. Let alone romantically involved. Then along comes charismatic and handsome Captain Kirk, brilliant, bold and with a rare knack for getting under peoples skin and into their heads. Who is known for being a flirt but is, ultimately, every bit the professional Pike is. He always wants to help his people, make them be everything they can be, his long-term inner circle are the cream of Starfleet with good reason. He comes to see this lonely, brilliant and committed young woman who has so much potential being held back by a history he cannot even guess at. She's in there and fighting but doesn't know which way to turn, how to move forward... So he shows her he believes in her with nothing more than a gentle kiss and his trust. The way she kisses him back? Says it all. The saddest thing is they'll fix history, so this version of Kirk will never truly exist for La'an. She'll have been inspired by a man she may one day meet, but he'll never know what he did for her.

Christina Chong is hot.

In this time line...Kirk knows nothing of the connection between La'an and Khan!! Since what he becomes in her timeline is so different!!

No, several female temporal agents have brought back several alternate Kirks many of which are working for Section 31 an the Time Cops saving the Galaxy while the Kirk native to the timeline does what he is meant to be doing. The pod containing Kirk's remains in the Starfleet museum is just one of many in several museums. Some have a sign: "In case of Galaxy threatening menace, break glass".

Gorgeous skyline shots, Kirk being corrected that it's Toronto and not New York, the new Cherry Street bridge, the Lakeview, Harbourfront, *street meat* -- this was the best love letter to this town ever.

Yeah in episode 6 I think... She meets her time-line kirk and kinda freezes for a sec.

I really like some episodes (especially with T’Pring, Chapel, and M’Benga) but somehow Ethan Peck just doesn’t do it for me as Spock. In Charades he wasn’t able to raise his eyebrow.

La’an should have tell him when the clock would light up

1.) season 1 episode 10 finale. took place in an alternate timeline where - UFP/starfleet still existed. it's just that pike didn't have the accident, refused promotion to fleet captain and stayed as CO of the enterprise. so from SNW to balance of terror la'an met kirk while on leave or transferred to the farragut fell in love with kirk, got promotd from lt. to commander and stayed on the farragut with kirk. 2.) in this episode something happened in the past. there is no UFP/Starfleet. earth got wrecked by the romulans. UEF (united earth fleet) is now just a hodgepodge of human colonies and they are fighting a war with the romulans. in this timeline la'an doesn't exist. DTI agent goes to 2260 and gives La'an a time travelling device that shielded her from the effects of the time incursion. she's still on the enterprise but it's now a UEF ship. enlists the help of alternate kirk. goes back in time to 2023 and tries to stop the time altering event. during the course of the episode she falls in love with alternate kirk and alternate kirk dies.

What I'm saying in the previous comment is a concept way to easy to understand, so instead of insulting your intelligence by explain it to you, I will let you figure it out by yourself. Small clue, however, the main divergence point in the alternative timeline we saw in 1x10 was that Pike didn't suffered the accident, previous to that, although it is possible that some other events also changed, it's more likely that most of them remained the same

After watching this episode that little detail in s1 finale seems so sweet to me. Maybe even across different timelines they like each other. I keep imagining that if la'an let's herself befriend main time-line kirk they could have something. It'll be so nice to see.
