Not entirely confess her feelings for James, so much as describe how she came to feel great affection for a version of James Kirk that no longer exists and how much THIS version reminds her, evoking those feelings, prompting her need to reveal that history to him.

I wonder if whenever La'an says, "What?" to Una, is because she's genuinely surprised and unaware of her subconscious actions, or if she's intentionally pretending to be surprised, as a defense mechanism to distract attention to her feelings.

In Star Trek time travel? Kid stays because………….quantum? 😂. In other sci-fi? Kid disappears because the other person never existed. In yet other sci-fi it was always supposed to happen so kid stays.
