Everbody's talking about Steffis forehand. But keep in mind how much damage she caused with her slice.

It's the footwork that was so good which enabled her to set up all those big shots. Sanchez was a smart player but her forehand was so mediocre.

“Graf’s forehand doing the damage again, and again, and again”… comment after the 11:02 forehand winner sums up the entire AO ‘94 final. Steffi Graf is a tennis goddess! We mortal tennis players can only watch Steffi in awe and wonder how can one pro tennis player have three of the greatest shots and athletic abilities: 🌟 Greatest Power Forehand of All-Time 🌟 Best ever Vicious Backhand Slice 🌟 Fastest Graceful Agile Athlete She also had a huge serve but that best ever accolade belongs to Serena W. Three more incredible powerful forehands she hits so effortlessly (no grunting, no screaming, no awkward muscling). Just consistent brilliance 🤩 20:14, 43:00, 47:18 No wonder Steffi is considered the GOAT winning 22 slams and the ‘Golden Grand Slam’ (4 slams plus Olympic gold in a calendar year) all before the age of 30. 🏆🥇

I think one of the reasons Steffi was so popular was that you were always guaranteed something worth watching. When she played well, you saw some amazing tennis. When she didn't play at her very best, you tended to see a really dramatic match. John McEnroe once said that he couldn't think of another player who'd been in so many classic matches.

Then I have indeed to add her dramatic 89 FO final loss to Sanchez. Especially Steffi at the FO was almost always drama, drama, drama! I‘m looking forward to her presenting the trophy to the women’s champion there this year!!

@@carrerau7138 Maybe...I don't know that the 88 and 93 Wimbledon finals would necessarily qualify. They weren't terribly close. Neither was the 88 Us Open final. In fact, the 94 final that she (regrettably) lost to ASV was more dramatic (although certainly not as historic). The French ones were by far the most dramatic and I'd agree that those 5 (3 wins and 2 losses) would all be in there.

Obviously a classic performance from Steffi here, but I can't help but think Aranhxa learned something from it. At times here it looked like Arantxa was trying to outslug Steffi. When they played in the US Open final later in 1994, after losing the first set, Arantxa really started to mix it up. Making Steffi work for everything and getting into the net a lot.
