Personally I don't think anyone can't match graff footwork, forehand,elegance. Either her tennis was so beautiful with the great energy ❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

graf greatest ever! my fave player of all time. then federer and nadal. she is the only player won all GS's at least four times and only golden slam title holder which she completed in 1988. class graf!

She'd been in really patchy form all that tournament - perhaps an early sign of the problems she had later in 1990-92 where she seemed somewhat burnt out. She said after this match "Thank God that's over. I didn't play well at all."

I always thought that the likes of Sabatini, Novotna or Fernandez liked Steffi too much and were too friendly with her. Sometimes they even seemed to be in awe of her and were happy with a competitive loss. Sabatini even played doubles with Graf until a new coach told Gabi that she should stop playing doubles with a player that always beats her.

It’s interesting this tournament. Steffi seemed more impatient than normal. Kind of irritated. She wanted them all over in 40 minutes 😀

I think there were a lot of shots that were called out, but if there were shotspot might have gone MJs way. Nice watching these throwbacks.

Steffi's game had been ragged throughout the tournament and she said sfter this match "Thank God that's over, I didn't play well at all". Perhaps some early signs of the the problems she faced later in 1990 until the end of 1992 - burnt out from her amazing 87-89 run, and her game somewhat stale with a drop in confidence when she started losing some big matches.

Bit of a delicate thing to say, but that usually means that a woman is being affected by her monthly cycle. It might also explain why Steffi's game was so ragged in this match too.

@@th8257 No, Steffi tried out a Adidas sports bra that pressed the breasts less to the rib cage than the usual sports bras of that time. Apparently her boobs flopping around was more of a hindrance, though. Or she saw video footage of that match and - shy girl that she was - was a bit embarrassed. Our loss.

@@th8257 Her mediocre form during the AO 90 is often attributed to the fact that she apparently learned during the tournament that her dad had has an extramarital affair und was blackmailed because of this. 4 months later (during Berlin 90) that story exploded in the national tabloids. The rest is history.

what was goin on here? steffi 1990 and 1994 winnin the first slam of the year then losin the rests and at wimbledon 1990 and 1994 got knocked out by two blacks named zina and lori respectively and then losin US opens 1990 and 1994 to spanish speakin ladies lol

Check out the opponent's Serena faced post Henin's retirement in 2008 where she won 15 of her 23 slams. Then you know about weak era when her main rivals were beaten by 40 years old granny Kimiko Date😂😂. Meanwhile Seles had horrible records against Graf, both Williams sisters, Hingis & Davenport. So that says it's all.
