I never understood why a Hive Mind couldnt go Psychic. Theres loads of examples of hive minds having some sort of psychic ability, which is why it works in an interstellar setting.

Just some general tips that I'm genuinely surprised you weren't (or don't seem to be) aware of: 1: You can immediately tell if a planet is a holy world or not based on if it's named. If the planet is just "Something III" or something similar then it is definitely not a holy world 2: You weren't lucky in getting Mega Engineering, because Master Builders gives you the option to research it 100% of the time, similar to how researching the Tyanki always gives you the option of the energy drain weapon. Either way you're a way better player than I (despite my 1800+ hours) and it just felt wrong for somebody so much better than me to not know these quality-of-life tips that have helped me a least once per game. Either way I loved the video and will probably watch the one you make when the new update comes out!

When playing hive mind I usually pick the repugnant negative trait, as people already dislike you as a hive mind, it is not much of a negative.

I know there would have been more time between the two moments than shown in the video but when you're colonising the tomb worlds you say you will have to make a sector already, in 2237. The next cut you show the caretaker event, install him as your governor then delete the old one lol why not just leave the lvl 5 governor for the sector you will have to make in a few months. #MinMaxPolice

Lathland. I personal love these condensed Stellaris episodes. For a person like myself who is probably unable to play stellaris due to its learning curve and other various issues, It is fun seeing an entire run in one short sitting rather than watching a 30+ episode series on it. You do an amazing job editing the videos and mainly show some funny and exciting parts of the slow-esque~ game play. I hope you do more of these as these videos are what sold me on whether or not to subscribe to your channel as they are unlike anything I have ever seen and I wish more people made videos like this of long war games. (dominion, civ, sid miers civ, stellaris, etc.) Anyways wish you best of luck and please, continue making these amazing videos.

I'll be honest, I've tried playing Stellaris a few times and while I do blank out and come to 7 hours later with little idea of what happened in the meantime, I just can't seem to get into it in a way where I keep playing. Your videos, on the other hand, I can turn on and switch off my brain for a while and just follow the story as your conquer the galaxy.

Recently started watch your videos and they are amazing! You should do a devouring swarm playthrough, i had a blast playing them. I went the same build that you are doing, ( very wide, then "tall" ) with some RP elements. was honestly the most fun i have had in Stellaris. ( No retreat doctrines, build a bunch of gateways near shipyards, and the front of your territory and just swarm the enemy empires. its no where near efficient but it is hilarious:) )

I recently started watching Stellaris games, I enjoyed your commentary and style (although the black screens were disturbing, hopefully youtube will get their butts together and stop that from becoming a permanent issue with my favorite form of video: Long form). If possible I'd love it if you would release longer versions some times as I love having videos going in the background while doing other things too, the sweet spot for me seems to be around 6-8 hours. Keep up the great content and... afaik evasion has a hard cap (can't recall if it is 80% or 90%) so even if you throw on evasion devices and it says 130% it will still be at the cap level and afaik having higher % does not play into tracking as it will sit on the the evasion cap still. Just for future reference.

Hey lath I have an idea for your next challenge diplomatic only tall empire your not allowed to attack anyone your ships can only defend and retake your land if it stolen the idea being you basically become a galactic shadow government.

Xenophages comes from the word xenophagy which is a combo of Greek worlds. Xeno which means allien (the X is actually pronounced as x in Greek not as z) and Phages which is the English plural version of the Greek world phage (pronounced fagy and it's already in plural in Greek), which means eaters. Love your vids btw!

When I get megastructures, it is a favourite tactic of mine to place gateways on the edges of my system, and gateways to my shipyard systems. It might be nice to place a few bastions if those gateways lead to the centre of your realm, but you can always make the shipyards on systems that only lead to a single other system, and place a bastion there. Anyway, this allows me to move my fleets across my Empire very very quickly.

when I went for evolutionary mastery I had a race for each resource type and always focuse on one kind per planet which was just insane modifyer wise

Arc Emitters and Focussed Arc Emitters are called The Wonder Shot. There is a reason for it, because of that massive gap in damage... plus, they punch straight through to Hull, and can one-shot small ships pretty regularly.

Lots of fun as always! Have you used the gateway travel tech before? It's extraordinarily useful, being able to connect any two points in your entire empire. I set the end game crisis to 5x on one of my recent playthrough's, and it turned the end game into a total slog. I could deal with the smaller fleets of the Contingency, but I'dve spent tens of hours building up just to be able to take on their home fleets. I think your empire would be able to have managed it, but the fps hit really hurts the enjoyability of the experience. I've had fun setting hyperlane density to 0.5x or 0.75x, it makes the early game territory grabs far more interesting. It also means your initial start is more likely to have a big effect on how you play. Wide empires can very quickly become hyper tall, and be forced to play the political landscape much more than usual.

You probably already started your last playthrough but just in case you haven't id like to suggest the galactic zoo keeper. Fanatic xenophile perhaps materialist, rush for the tech that gives apocolpyse style weapons and go for the planetary bottler and turn all the races (Including an endgame crisis if applicable) into exhibits to be monitored by bottling them into their planets. Of course like any good xenophile you would be doing it to preserve galactic diversity, so to make the most of your budding new zoo you would need to open your borders and allow only the richest of each race to escape the shields.

Lath you should create an empire that focuses almost solely on military and science hardest difficulty and largest galaxy and the end game crisis is x2 and maybe add one or two *more* fallen empires. Edit: the last one is optional of course.

Slavers with Syncretic Evolution is powerful and fun. Definitely do a run of that.

I've once had an empire where I started building habitats as early as I could and ended up with a crazy high population density so in the end I had the strongest economy and highest population whilest having the smallest space, was playing against npcs and 2 friends btw.

Goodness... I am not going to spoil it... but you are pretty much NEVER going to fight the Scurge. Unless they changed it the conditions for it to appear just about guarantee that it won't. It is kind of sad because I actually find them rather interesting.

If you want to make your next run very challenging, I suggest trying starting as life seeded fanatical purfier on maximum difficulty settings. Could also do it as spiritualists and psionic ascencion so you can't just become robots and have 100% habitability in the midgame too to make it extra hard.

@lathland i would like to see a very tall build, where you focus on science and get your main income from vessels, so you stay a small tec heavy empire

I want to the see the equivalent of a Tyranid playthrough. Find a way to abuse that psionic bug you found to create a fully Psi/Hivemind race, and then completely wipe out all other life in the galaxy. Become the great devourer. *YOU* are the end-game crisis!

you want more challenge, you should seen my robot police force game, where that one bug that triggered multiple endgame. Scourge and Contingency. Oh it was fantastic when I owed 75% of the galaxy and Contingency started popping up in my four core systems. I nailed them down to two, then burble burble screech screech, here comes the galaxy's favorite herpes! I lost but I fought till the bitter end. Only then realized it was a bug and my saves before were corrupted. Not even mad
