That... can happen now. The Game Director saw a Pre-FTL get a machine uprising and win, then become a determined exterminator in his playthrough with Broken Shackles origin. The Pre-FTL world in question was the original homeworld of his pops... This kind of emergent gameplay is what I am super excited about with First Contact!

I wish these new origins had versions for us to play if we wanted to play them as Machines or Hives. Imagine a gestalt consciousness getting worried about what's out there and deciding to split itself in two and hide the other part of itself on another planet. The two gestalt minds could then remain in contact but start to think differently based upon their different circumstances from that point onwards. I think it could work.

i've been saying the same about most origins since i started playing... so many of the origins are very easy to see how a machine empire or hive mind could have that origin. i actually would love a rogue servitor with lost colony, or payback origin, the story makes so much sense. both payback and broken shackles work with hive minds as well if you ask me.

In my current UNE playthrough, I once had a pre-FTL civilization still in its Renaissance era somehow find out its conspiracy theorists were right about them being watched by hairless space-apes this whole time after the envoy at the observation post naturally screwed up big time. Another observation post had a scientist go down to be worshipped as a goddess, making them Evangelizing Zealots before I sent a transport fleet to covertly arrest her. And then I made the mistake of continuing to enlighten them; they made it to Early Space Age, found the observation post and all their nuclear powers got together and blasted it into oblivion. About a year later they discovered FTL on their own and hailed us, seceding from Earth and demanding their messiahess back, both of which I agreed to because I was so tired of the incredible luck I was consistently having with them and was tired of wasting a clearly incompetent envoy trying to maybe, just maybe make a good little vassal out of them and just wanted to finally have them not be my problem anymore. Needless to say, once I get a colossus those gullible, annoying scientist-worshippers will be the first ones de-evolved

With the devs introducing a way how hive minds can form, I really hope we get an origin/ascension, where our people also slowly join together in a hive mind. And you get the choice to fully embrace that, turning you into a complete one, or to preserve indiviuality, which then turns you into a Protoss kind of species, where their emotions and thoughts are still connected.
@Endless-fire
@Endless-fire Жыл бұрын
Protoss form is just Psionic, no?
@anna-flora999
@anna-flora999 Жыл бұрын
Flavor wise, psyonic goes into that direction. The final ascension says that your people largely stopped talking verbally and now just communicate telepathically. That's arguably pretty close to a hive mind already, depending on speed and range of the telepathic connection
@YSaturn
@YSaturn Жыл бұрын
@@anna-flora999 I dont think so, maybe I understand Protoss lore wrong, but the Kala, their psi ascension, is a unity of thoughs and emotions, they know what the other one knows, sees and feels, as they are all connected together. While in Stellaris people talk via thelepathy, can do Jedi mind tricks, views of the future and "sense" others emotion. All these things seem for me like its a 1 lvl below the protoss unitiy where everyone is part of one "mind" the kala, but still an individual. And the protoss way is 1 lvl below of what an actual hive mind is, because there the people lost their individuality and get controlled by what was the Kala and is now the hivemind, that got formed of the kala.
@fieldy409
@fieldy409 Жыл бұрын
@@anna-flora999 I don't think so. It's just a different way of talking. We can already share our thoughts in words. A hive mind controls it's drones not talks. The psychic talking I think is more like the internet, an extremely efficent and fast way to talk to many people.

Guess the lore I made up for my hive mind is a bit more on-target than I realized: The Moff species (butterfly profile) made the Mind Flower from Civ: Beyond Earth to end conflict among their species (Tree of Life origin) and now they want to spread their newfound sense of harmony. I wonder what happens if you're a hive mind observing a new hive mind forming. Maybe an option for taking it over so that they join you, giving Insights in the process. All will be one! I continue to be stoked for cloaking, and I'm eager to see how they might rework the Subterfuge tradition to benefit it. I really want new options for being sneaky. I think active recon will be nice for me, since it gives my science ships one more thing they can do later in the game. I liked having 100 intelligence on everyone in my first victorious run. Not into playing Fanatic Purifiers, but it's cool that now there's a route to picking it up, rather than starting out that way. Think it'd be neat if a lot of the "locked" civics got a similar treatment in future expansions. It's also fun seeing how a Ravenous Swarm gets started in this example. It has me wondering about interventions you can do with your observation stations and if we'll be able to influence civics as well as ethics for primitives.

a hive mind can already take over primitives (or other empires) and add them to the hive with the genetics tradition tree.... tho you do invade the planet to do it (or use raiding to steal pops and add them to the hive) but it would be interesting if they are better at that situation of watching a hive form, or somehow different.

@@furioni333 presumably a regular empire with the clone army origin were primitives for sometime before the game start, so it doesn't necessarily have to be very different. Their initial origin is shrouded in mystery, the technology that made them is lost to time except for the clone vats themselves and probably they are not yet working at peak efficiency like they do in a regular empire so the pre-ftl clone population is lower. Then as they advance they also gradually improve the effectiveness of the clone vats until finally if they get out of the early space age they would become equivalent to a regular empire with the clone origin. Necrophage would be different though, since that origin description explicitly states that the prepatent species was originally the dominant civilization, so that one would have to function through some event similar to the one with the hivemind that montu described in the video.

Something like a hive mind that was discovered by spacefaring explorers and the hive mind learns of space travel and more importantly other food sources by devouring/assimilating them kinda like the flood. Have it heavily incentivize aggressive expansion with having penalties to your own research and development but in return receive larger rewards for examining wreckage, taking planets and other aggressive acts. The organic singularity is somewhat like the Tines from Vernor Vinge's 'A Fire Upon the Deep', they are a hive mind made up of the minds of multiple individuals in close proximity, the minds communicating by sounds. Maybe Stellaris devs cand make a future expansion in which they add the concepts of 'Thought Zones' from that book (series) and also crises based on the 'supra intelligences' from that book, like the Blight, taking over entire planets and fleets and converting them. Also, am I missing something or why aren't there any options to take over enemy ships or fleets with either Telepathy for organics and some sort of computer virus infection for Cybernetics ... ? Can't we have a Battlestar Galactica-style Cylons that can infect enemy computer systems ? Or the brain slugs from Futurama ? Or some zerg-like 'giant telepath brain' add-ons for ships that can to telepathic things: sense other minds, including cloaked ships, take over weak minds in enemy fleets or , at least confuse them etc ... You can build the Blight-like entity for a crisis event based on one (or both!) of these concepts.

I wonder how to break these mechanics. I mean, you could just land ground forces on the isolationist haven. Would that unify your species and give you any bonuses to offset the starting maluses? Also, how about shielding or cracking their world with a colossus? I really wanna mess with them to see the game break.

With a primitive construction ship, it could be like watching them build mining and research stations until an event is triggered that gives them A) an actual shipyard and they become a new empire or B) if you already own the system they finally become aware of your presence and initiate communications. It's a bit more progressive than how it currently is.

An interesting take on the dark forest hypothesis from this DLC. It seems to be pretty disparaging of it! That the fate of dark forest civ adopters is for them to completely gut their own solar system of resources, trapping themselves there and potentially dooming them to annihalation from a pissed off alien civ they failed to exterminate.
