This brings back a few memories from years gone by, the ships berthing almost right next to the railway station. The last time I travelled to Ireland by ferry was in 1991 (tend to fly these days) , mum and I travelled on that very ship having travelled by train to and from Holyhead. Nowadays the ferries are right out on or near the breakwater and any foot passengers are transferred to and from them by bus. I also remember the early to mid 1970s as a child making crossings on the passenger only ships Cambria and Hibernia. Thanks for posting..

Used to stand at the Green light, watching the ship's coming into port. Great seamanship. The whole idea was for the train to meet the ships, that's all gone now, and the port has changed so much. Thanks for the post.

I'll never forget waiting to board , and the master of hibernia quite literally slingshotting her from one side of the terminal to the other in dun laoghaoire harbour , as you said , incredible seamanship

The original Hibernia was withdrawn in 1976, her sister Cambria the year before.
