Just got my bike from RE and they supposedly adjusted the valves, at least that is what they charged me for. But since I like checking on their work, I opened the bike and the cold exhaust was at 0.006mm which is about 30 percent to tight, and the intake had zero play. I guess the RE shop failed the test and I will be doing everything I can at home. What gave me a heads up was that they also charged me for lubing the chain and changing the oil, and riding home the chain was so loose that it was slapping against the swing arm. I then looked in the oil window and it was pure black. Once on the center stand, I had to drain a full quart of dirty oil out of the engine before the level fell between the lines. Then I had to buy new oil and replace the dirty oil myself. Also now, the bike shifts very hard. It clicks and hangs up between gears and then it slowly enters with a lot of force. It is bad enough so I no longer want to ride the bike. I think my next bike will be a V-Strom. Less maintenance.

My Himalayan feels a bit choked up after I got the valves adjusted by a mechanic. It doesn't like to go above 70 kmph (at least not smoothly) Did he made the Inlet valve too loose??? EDIT: The video is clear and instructive. It makes me want to open up the valve covers myself. Should I do it though?

Hey ben, i've done the tps adjustment and my bike still stalls, i dont have evap and ais anymore , and i user an aftermarket filter and exhaust. do you think it could be an exhaust valve too tight?

Hey Ben. South Dakota here. Great videos and thanks for putting information out there. I’m gathering tools to be able to do my own maintenance on my Himalayan. Can you use your Valve Adjustment Tool on the intake valve? Seems like a lot of folks need to adapt their tool selection (needle nose pliers) to get the job done. Your comments?

Hi Ben, some of the topic question.. I have purchased the handle bar risers that you are using. Installed them on my Himalayan, fits well. The problem is when I turn left the front break hose feels a bit small. Have you replace it with a longer one in your bike or are you using the stock one?

Normaly you rotate the crankshaft in rotating direction of the engine. So in this case counter clockwise. But on the himalayan i read somewhere (dont know exactly where) to rotate the crankshaft only clockwise because of the risk of loosening the bold when turning it "left" anticlockwise. I don´t know if thats just a workaround because the camchain slack is somewhat different when turning it "the wrong way (clockwise)" and maybe that does not effect the adjustment of the valves.....
@DrMemory70
@DrMemory70 2 жыл бұрын
The service manual clearly says "clockwise" but George Milburn in the TEC cam replacement videos makes a strong case for only rotating the engine 'anticlockwise' (the normal direction of engine travel) to avoid slipping the cam chain. He argues the risk of loosening the magneto bolt on the crankshaft is low with the spark plug out. I have used his approach without difficulty and its easier for me to be sure I'm at TDC on the compression stroke.
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN 2 жыл бұрын
@@DrMemory70 yes , all my life I have ONLY rotated in the direction of the engine . I made a video on the same but a lot of people quoted the RE manual and the clockwise direction so did not want to go against it this time . And yes it is only because of the risk of accidentally loosening the flywheel Nut. But like you rightly said , if the spark plug is removed , there will be no compression forces acting , chances of loosening the bolt is next to nil .

Hi, I have watched practically all of the valves on .Himalayan videos and some are all over the place on were to set the bike at TDC as on the line past "T"..or directly on the "T"..? (it seems to be a 50/50 split on this?) and some have said .03 to .05 on intake and .09 on exhaust..Tou say .108 and .23 in exhaust (which is common in here) but everyone can not agree on these? I think I have to buy an actual manual on this, as even the service Dept. where I bought my bike will not tell me (They owe me a free year osf service..)
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN

compressor built while rotating is really irritating as it compress it slips off most of the time and the top center misses out some times so old school method can be done too by putting bike on 1 gear and push tire back wards till it gets on top center than through spark plug area insert screw driver tip and sense the pistons position and than inspect the T as mostly it skips gives F or the arrows > > thats why makes it more irritate getting it to center as ive did before on my 200ns was as well cause had over all 2 intake 2 exhaust good about himalayn have only 1 intake and 1 exhaust

Turning 411 Himalayan engine clockwise is WRONG!!!! You must turn the engine COUNTER CLOCKWISE, or you will damage the chain tensioner - and the engine!!!. How can you not hear the noises coming out of the engine, while you are turning the engine into the wrong direction/clockwise??? Where did you learn this? If you are not sure in which directon you should turn the crankshaft, do the following: put the gearbox into the 5th gear and rotate the rear wheel in the driving direction - the crankshaft will rotate into the correct direction, namely COUNTER CLOCKWISE.
