This video provides a step by step guide on how to fix an ugly lawn. The lawn in the video is actually my backyard. It needs some help but I have a plan that I lay out for you on how to get rid of the weeds (rye grass) without killing the lawn (bermuda). I then talk about how to get the lawn to fill in with bermuda grass over the summer. Then, I discuss what I plan to do to make this lawn smooth and how I plan to handle the rocks in the lawn. That probably will involving topdressing the lawn at some point. I hope the video is entertaining and informational for you as you seek to turn ugly lawns into beautiful ones.

Sounds like a great plan. You've proven over the last few years that there's really no need for full sodding if you just have a little patience. You've got the back field looking like a soccer park.

Pretty crazy that bermuda can spread that fast. I don't know anything about warm seasons as manage cool season lawns up in CT. Looking forward to an update end of summer.

This is great - my lawn got ate by army worms last summer (north of Atlanta), so I seeded with fescue to avoid total mud thru the winter. Now I’m using my pro plugger to spread my zoysia…. Can’t wait for it to get hot to watch it spread. By the way, if lawn care doesn’t work out, you’d be an awesome NASCAR announcer!!! lol The army worm thing was everywhere here - should I put down a pesticide to deter them this year??

Just came across your video. Great content. I read and watched other videos on how to fix bare spots. So i clean out area, put soil that had fertilizer in it (said the bag), put seed, then light top soild and some peat moss. Been 3 weeks now and nothing has sprouted. What did i do wrong and is it fixable at all? We have no experts out here just big lawn card companies i cant afford. Thanks for your videos. I just subscribed

If it hasn't sprouted yet, it probably is not going to. I would try again and water it for 5 to 10 minutes every day until it sprouts. Also, if you are trying to grow cool season grasses, this is a difficult time to do that. Fall would be an easier time

I love when you release these long-format informative videos.. Thanks Jason. Also, I would go with the option of mowing the hell out of the Bermuda instead of killing the rye with chems.
@lawncarelife
@lawncarelife 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I'm curious, why do you suggest mowing the bermuda instead of spraying? Is it because the bermuda is not established? That is a slight concern of mine
@michaelsteele5495
@michaelsteele5495 2 жыл бұрын
@@lawncarelife obviously you know more about this than I. But my thoughts are you should be mowing it low and often to promote lateral growth anyway. This will kill the Rye slowly but that is good because the space will not be occupied by weeds.

Will zoysia spread well doing plugs from sod? Got some areas under the oak trees that is bare and I'm wanting to get it looking beautiful if possible but sodding the whole area is cost prohibitive so the plug idea sure sounds more cost effective and just let it do its thing over time.

2-2.5lbs Nitrogen per 1k sqft?! Is that the same for St Aug? I was under the impression I should stay under 2lbs N per 1k sqft per year? Thanks
@lawncarelife
@lawncarelife 2 жыл бұрын
I stay under 2 lbs N per 1k sq ft for St Aug and centipede. Bermuda can handle a lot more and it helps it fill in bare spots faster
@johnfetter3252
@johnfetter3252 2 жыл бұрын
Bermuda can handle commodity level Nitrogen, like 250 lb/acre or 6 lb per 1000 sq foot per year. But you will have to mow a lot, like every other day, and water a lot as well. So lower rates are better.
