I just found your channel. I really need to get a month ahead but I’m an impulse spender. I always stress out when I don’t have the money to pay my bills. I know that I need to cut back on my unnecessary spending and create a budget that works for me.

Yes, watch my monthly budget and how to start budgeting videos. Once you have a good plan and all your money has been assigned a job, it will help. Plus, make sure to give yourself some spending money every paycheck.

Same. But I spend when stressed, retail therapy. Like you due dates stress me out and I'm tired of just making it. I want to be able to spend and not feel bad when I do. Ugh!!!!!

Idea: as soon as you get paid, go and pay off your bills right away, even if they aren’t due. That way, all the Bill money is ‘protected’ from impulse spending. Option: have your Bill dates changed to be due the first few days after you get paid, for motivation to pay them. You can do it!

I’m also an impulse spender,I was able to stop that by putting the items in my cart, walking the store putting things in I thought I wanted, then before I got to the check out, went back and put the stuff back on the shelf I didn’t need. I got the feeling of having it for a moment, but at the end didn’t buy it.

Spot on! Mom taught me never to buy anything on credit unless I already had the cash to pay it, set aside. She did help me take out my first car loan - using a CD as collateral, which earned interest to offset the loan interest a bit. Doing this helps ensure that YOU can negotiate your interest rates more effectively, because you aren't desperate for anyone's credit product. Be frugal. It can be fun!

What’s a “CD”
@bitrudder3792
@bitrudder3792 7 ай бұрын
@@tahzaebrown3367 - a CD is a “certificate of deposit“ where you agree to leave the money for a certain period of time and they agree to pay a certain percentage of interest. Back in the day we were getting like 10% give or take. It was brilliant. That is 10% over the span of the year, divide that by 12 and compound it. You could set up a CD for as little as six months or for as long for a few years. My mom put the money in for the same term as my car loan and made a nice profit while providing me with a very affordable note to pay, And the beginning of a real credit score. The interest rate is not great for CDs these days, in this country. Better in Mexico right now for a similar product.
@LH-uk8zs
@LH-uk8zs 2 ай бұрын
@@tahzaebrown3367 A certificate of deposit (CD) is a type of savings account that you can get through a bank or credit union. It’s basically an account where you agree to keep a specific amount of your money in the CD without taking a withdrawal from it for a specified length of time (i.e. 6 months, one year, etc.). Banks and CUs have different options for the periods of time they offer. Withdrawing money early means paying a penalty fee to the bank. You can potentially get a great interest rate on CDs right now. CDs are a great way to make sure you save a specific amount of money over a set length of time. And excellent for saving for a specific goal, such as a car down payment, for example. Consumerfinance.gov and Investopedia have some good descriptions of CDs if you want to research CDs further.

Times are changing, but as bizarre disasters keep breaking out...be aware that having cash on hand can be a useful life-saver when the power is out, when cash registers aren't working. When I sat down saw my bills for 3 months, 6 months, 1 year just paying overhead it was eye opening. i made a graph chart to show income then each bill. We have become bare bones and still the amounts spent was shocking. The interest received on my several accounts with a credit union are not enough to propel or make a dent in the total amounts needed. I use the bank as my envelopes and transfer money or roll it down based on a paycheck budget. I have a 3-month bill pay ahead savings and when that gets to goal move it to 6 mt. Really would love to be in a position to have the entire year calculated out then Jan 1 pay it off (especially taxes). Many recurring bills do not let you pay a little extra some do like electric. example bill is $20 pay $35 to be ahead. Lastly started a nest egg savings to stow away money untouched for the retirement years. My 401k, Roth are losing money consistently for the past 3 years, so changed my contribution amount and put the difference into the nest egg.

Trying to understand better. If you are still paying off debt why are you setting extra money aside rather than using that money each month to pay your debt down further? I imagine the interest on your debt is higher than the interest you would get from the high yield savings account. The math doesn’t quite make sense to me.
@lymanjoy
@lymanjoy 9 ай бұрын
For me, it's not a math problem as much as a motivational thing. I need this to motivate me. 98% of my extra goes to debt. The other just helps me stay on track while having a bit of fun to keep the path. I have tried dave ramsey 100% and just loose heart along the way. This is what works for me. But your right is not mathematical as good. So if you can give a 100% to debt, go for it!! ❤️👍

I’m extremely new to savings like this and I don’t understand how to calculate interest to be one month ahead. My monthly income is $5,000 how do I calculate the interest to where it makes me a month ahead in 2 years. Can you tell me what the exact amount of savings each month would equate too. I don’t have any debt because I come from an extremely poor background growing up, I’m 31 and never had a bank account or credit because I lacked financial literacy. I have children and I ultimately want to become financially free but I must learn how to save and no longer live pay check to pay check are you able to assist me.
@lymanjoy
@lymanjoy 9 ай бұрын
I would suggest using the calculator tool in the video because it calculates it all for you, based off how long you want to get to your goal and your individual interest from your high yield savings. It has been very helpful in calculating it for me. Then, it breaks down the interest. So my high savings account at wealthfront is 4.55 so you can also put that in the calculator. And it shows you how your money you put in there money will gain interest along the way. Whatever your interest % is just enter that in the calculator and it will tell you all the numbers. ❤️❤️

Everything except the mortgage. Little secret, I will be sharing soon, but I believe in total helocs in the first position secured for mortgages. But I am transitioning mine into one now and will be sharing my experience for others to learn from but essentially making my 30 year mortgage paid off in 7-10 years. More coming on that soon...

First, I have had to move to better paying opportunities. Always look for a job when you have a job that may move you up in pay. Next hospital billing may pay more look into that as well. But to be honest, it depends where you live. Lastly, contract billing can make more money, but you need more experience, so keep growing and look into the hospital, and it will naturally grow. 😁

@@lymanjoy ive never thought about contract billing. Ive thought about hospital billing. I had interviews but no call backs. The main reason was to work from home since i had a baby. But the pay cut was rediculous. So im going to reapply to the hospital. I really appreciate you getting back to me.

I've always understood that the emergency fund includes the 3-6 month buffer. You I've always understood that the 3-6 month buffer is part of the emergency fund. You should have 3-6 month income saved, or, in Dave's plan, $1000, and then completing the whole ER fund after debts are paid.
@lymanjoy
@lymanjoy 6 ай бұрын
$1000 for emergency, then debt, then 3-6 months. This would fall more into the 3-6 month buffer, starting with one month. But I don't do dave ramsey exactly, with my oldest having 7 open heart surgeries I to do this a little different to survive. Each there own 😁

Ok, let's start with a solid budget, but when that's good, I would add whatever you can. Let's say you have $100 left over make that a one month ahead "bill." But put it in a high yield savings account instead of checking account to make interest while you save.

Is not 1 month ahead/buffer an emergency fund?
@lymanjoy
@lymanjoy 5 ай бұрын
No, I would have that 1000 emergency fund first, then save enough to be able to cover all your bills, food, gas, and living. Which for me is a few thousand. That way, you will always have enough to cover an entire month. I keep my emergency for smaller things. Since 100 doesn't go too far.

Noooooo. If you're making a video you need to know your audience. The average household income in America is 70k. This means two folks bring in 4k a month after taxes (before 401k, loans payments, insurance). Only 20% of American households make 150k or more and ONLY 5% of individuals make 150k or more. No millionaire will watch your budgeting video--only folks in the bottom 50% will. This means your audience makes 1-4k per month and you are insulting them with a 8.5k example after taxes and retirement is taken out. Lastly, I find it very very very hard to believe a medical coder makes 150k. The average salary for a medical coder is 53k (3.5k after tax) in America. This means you make 3k a month (after taxes and a 15% retirement contribution which I hope you are teaching AND doing). 3k not 8.5k. That's what your coworkers and the average American make and there's nothing wrong with that. Please stop offending your audience and don't alienate them. You won't get views by making up fairy tales and bragging. You only said your budget was 9k to brag. You didn't do it to be honest so don't reply and say you did that. You did it to brag in case one of your friends finds out you made this video. Now post a video of you driving a Mercedes or a Maserati--your budget is 9k remember? Right, didn't think so. Bye. Hanging up the phone now. Stop begging for attention. Thank you and good night.
