I know when I first started out, I would spend a lot of time online trying to find anything I could to help me in this industry, and I came across a ton of very useful things.
One thing I couldn't find however is how to operate a Hooklift truck. I have a ton of experience running and owning heavy trucks so It came naturally to me...but for someone just starting out in this business, it may not be that easy.
In this video I show step by step how to run a Hooklift truck and how to run it safely and properly.

The part about pulling the truck out from under the dumpster vs letting the hook itself do the work (which makes the dumpster roll) was huge! I’ve only owned Palfinger systems. I won’t hesitate to purchase them again. Very solid, reliable and I have a great dealer network in fortunate to work with.

Pushing the truck out from under the dumpsters can be tricky when you're pointed uphill or the ground beneath the dumpster is smoother than the ground the truck is sitting on. That's my experience anyway with hydraulic lever operated bed and a stick shift truck.

Yes sir. Anything other than flat ground starts to introduce other factors when dropping or picking cans for sure. Valid point my friend.

Great video John. Definitely answered some of my questions. What does your truck weigh empty with out a dumpster? And What maximum weight capacity does it give you on say your 22yd dumpsters? Thanks

Those are some great questions my friend. Truck weighs 12,540 ( with no cans ) Truck weighs 14,980 ( with a 22 cubic yard can ) We can legal 23,000lbs with this truck. 23,000 - 14980 = 8020lbs of payload on our 22 cubic yard size cans. Hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching.

Great vids! So much information really appreciate. stupid question, when you moved the truck from under the can that used/pushed the jib in or out? Or is that the natural movement of the hook when you moved the truck forward.

It's both at the same time. Operating the jib at the same time moving the truck towards or away from the dumpster. Great question BTW.

On this truck in this video, the longest can you can carry is 14' long.

Could you add the pistol grip bar to your cans as a extra lock back in the day would be called over kill

You could.... but you would loose the flexibility of of sliding your jib and stopping it anywhere you want to transport it. I don't believe it's needed to have both hotbeds and pistol grips at the same time. It wouldn't hurt, but def overkill.

Do you have a strategy for dealing with flat tires without too much downtime?

Buy the best tires money can buy and perform a daily pre-trip inspection and look at every tire every day. If you see a nail, screw or bolt or anything else, get it fixed ASAP before you destroy the tire buy running on it after you notice it. No secret pill when it comes to tires.

@@davidc5808 The preferred truck for the 22’s is the 120” CA truck. That truck is a little longer but the cans ride best on it. We do so much work in the downtown area, the 108” CA truck is the preferred choice for those extremely tight job sites. The 108” CA Carrie’s the 22’s perfectly fine, they just ride that much better on the 120” CA

City Mode? teach me something.... I have not heard of that term before....

@samedaydumpster ok, so there's a city-mode you can put the hooklift into. Which will restrict the functions of the hooklift, so certain movements will not be available. Basically, you won't be able to pick up or drop a dumpster in this mode. To put it into city-mode, I believe, you have to hold down the 'on' button and the 'lock' buttons for 10 seconds. There are probably more modes, but I haven't found it. The reason I'm mentioning this is because it somehow accidentally happened to one of our trucks, and it was basically useless that day.

Thank you for the video just got my hook lift and starting to fabricate my dumpsters. Question why do you prefer the mechanical lock over the pistol grip?

For me it’s an easier visual…. The pistol grip is under the bed and it’s a lot harder to see if it’s fully locked. The hot bar style I’m running… with a real quick glance from anywhere ( including inside the truck ) I can see if it’s fully locked. Great question.

Who fabricated your dumpsters? And what’s the benefit of setting the Hooke height to 54” rather than 36”?

Steel Products in Salt Lake City, UT. Without trying to write an entire book here, I personally wouldn't buy a 36" Hooklift truck or run 36" dumpsters at all. There's zero advantage over 54"... just drawbacks. If you are just getting into the game or just getting started, start with 54", you'll thank me later.

16,000lbs Palfinger in the model on this truck. As far as why I run 22's and not 20's.... it's very simple, I give my customers 10% more than anyone else. Thanks for taking the time to watch the channel. Much appreciated.

this truck is a 2022 Chevrolet 6500 4x4. 108'CA with a Palfinger 16,000# system. We purchase all our trucks from Ruble Truck Sales in New Haven, IN. Ask for Jeff, he's very familiar with how we build our trucks.

Honestly couldn't tell you the dump angle on this truck and dumpster... but its aggressive and nothing ever gets held up in it. It cleans out super nice on every dump out.
