Love seeing these old school cable rigs in action. Here in Europe, these pretty much went extinct in favor of hook rigs.

They went away for a good reason. Hooklifts are way faster and more flexible, especially when you are swapping ends with trash compactor

The right way to show the correct operation of a stinger is to be at a low overhang area where you can't bring your boom all the way upand bring out your stinger to get to the container you want to get that container on the truck past the stinger so that it doesn't cause any damage if it were a heavy load

Good thing the box is empty. That’s how you bend stingers. Or lose a box of the rails because of poor engagement. Looks easy on flat ground when the box rollers work etc etc

I was shown to raise the Boom bring the Stinger tail out just so you see the rear fender raise up a little bit then back it off connect cable and start bringing it onto the truck just like you would on a normal roll-off truck once it's is on and the Boom is lowered bring a stinger tail in

position truck, raise to safe height below overhead obstacle, parking brake, walk back to hook cable, disconnect hydraulic lines, etc, get back inside and pull for to fully stretch cable, stinger out to ground, pull box up stinger to main rails, leave stinger out with rails and box flat no scissor, once you reach the pivot point (balance weight of load) lower body, retract stinger. Guys saying you'll bend the stinger because its out are wrong. The stinger will bend by lowering the body with more that 1/4 of the can not above the stinger and body. basically still hanging of the stinger.

I don’t know if I’m doing it the right way but I back up to the can, hook up, pull the can past the stinger and simultaneously lower the boom while pulling the can onto the truck. Once the bottom of the can is flush to the rails I stop lowering the boom and pull the can up. I also have the truck in neutral so the truck rolls underneath the can while I’m pulling the cable cause I haul heavy ass loads and it will tear up the ground if the truck is in park

That’s how I do it, if this was unlevel ground or on dirt and grass, it would tip over because the bottom of the hoist isn’t flush

Correct me if I am wrong, but the way I was trained 15 years ago was that you back up to the container to square the truck up to the container with the boom being FLAT on the frame and the stinger on the IN position, in other words the same way you would be driving the truck on the road without a container, once you got the truck lined up straight in front of the container you connect the cable to the container and THEN you raise the boom, roll the truck slightly forward to "stretch" the cable and THEN you extend the stinger until you feel it touching the ground, since you rolled the truck forward that would keep the cable from being pinched and enough room to extend the stinger without hitting the container with the stinger or the cable, and now you can proceed to pull the container to the rails and load it to the truck. Why this method? Simply because it protects the stinger from being bent when you back up to the container with a raised boom and the stinger totally extended. Believe me, I have seen enough bent stingers and the hydraulic cylinder bent also.

US are really outdated in the trucking industry. Here in Sweden and Scandinavia overall we have hooklifts truck and trailer. You reverse the truck to the container and lower the hooklift arm. Then you adjust the hook to the loop and lift up the container. We also have trailers so you can take 3 containers at the same time. The same goes for there, you reverse to the front / back of the trailer and lower the container over to the trailer from the truck. It's so much faster, easier and better because you can take more containers at once. I've seen alot of videos from different types of US trucks and they all just look old and outdated. For example yours TMA trucks, semi trucks, garbage trucks etc. And just to clarify, my comment isn't meant to be disrespectful or anything. I just don't understand why y'all don't keep develop the technology of the transport industry, like in Europe.

I was told stingers are for low clearance and cock-eyed cans that you cant straight line.. I always try to avoid using em.. What got me is... my customers get loud when I drag cans all over their nice asphalt. Let the truck roll under the can if possible.

Most of the time, if you are to roll back under the dumpster is because the dumpster has frozen/stuck wheels. Free wheels on a dumpster are far and few.

Not bad, if every drop or hook was in a perfect world. Just wait until you get a customer flipping out over you rolling that box across their brand new black top in August. Drag that box in someone's gravel driveway or worse yet, their yard.

Thanks for the video. Question: has a container ever flipped on its side because a driver didn’t hook it right? How’s the pay? Have you ever dealt with a situation where it’s hard to get to a container, like if it’s at an angle? About how many pick ups & drop offs do you do regularly in a day?

Hi Ro-lando and thanks for the questions. As the dealership, we do not have the same experiences as the actual haulers, (our customers) who would be better suited to field these specific questions.

U can rollover a box in any situation if ur not paying attention. Ive been too a f#$@ ton of stupidly tight places, you pretty much get use to it. Around here in Mid TN its about $19-$22 an hour average little higher in the city. And it depends on the distance between swaps , empty returns, removals, or deliveries whether u will have 4 runs or posibly 9 more. The most i did was 14.

Anything is possible to happen in the sanitation industry, the key is to always pay attention to what you're doing and if you're not sure what you're doing you ask. I do it in NYC and stupidly tight spots are a daily thing. Get your angle right, hook up, let the box jump the rails and pull out and the box will follow the truck and straighten out. Here in NY guys will start out in the low to mid 20s, and as you get more experience you'll see your pay go up to high 20s to low 30s (depending on the company). Usually it's anywhere from 5-8 or 9 boxes a day and it's a mix of compactors and open tops

You can't "hook it incorrectly", but it CAN go off the rails if you didn't back the tail in inside the roll-off's rails or if the truck isn't straight. Luckily, you can fix it while pulling it up. I just started driving this truck, but the worst that has happened was the roll-off was slightly off the rails - all you have to do is let down the winch and re-adjust while pulling it back up. I work for a contractor company, and I only operate on private property, so the pay in my case is pretty low ($16.25/hr). @MikeRunsNY knows better than me though, I've never tried fixing a roll-off by continuing to pull it.

I just got my commercial class b license at age 20 couple months ago and now have a job driving a roll-off hoist truck, it's such a cool job in my opinion I really enjoy it! I drive a truck very similar to the one in the video, it almost looks exact! It. does the exact same thing with the cable how it picks up the dumpsters! Also having the 3 axles plus the smaller 4th axle. The truck I drive has a GVWR of 60,000, how much is this truck? Really cool video!
@PremierTruckSales
@PremierTruckSales 10 ай бұрын
This particular roll off truck has a similar GVWR. 59,500lbs for a tri-axle. Tandem axle would be 54,500lbs, and a quad would be 64,000lbs.

So does this make it easier on the equipment since the rails don't have to be so high up?
@PremierTruckSales
@PremierTruckSales 6 жыл бұрын
-The stinger tail feature cuts the overall length of the truck by up to 4’, allowing the operator to maneuver in and out of tight work areas. -With the stinger tail fully extended, the height of the rail in the raised position is significantly reduced, allowing the operator to work in areas where overhead structures may be an issue with a fixed tail truck. -When dumping a loaded container with the stinger fully retracted, it lessens the chances of the operator dumping trash/debris all over the tail and the truck. I would think the equipment would wear equally with or without a stinger.

My friend for your own good, you need an experienced stinger roll off driver to train you, the way you are operating it will result in bending the Stinger and hydraulic cylinder. Stingers are not as strong as the normal roll of rails, they can be bent easily without you noticing it.

Pease explain the wrong doing so we don't do it this way?
@andrewterra4938
@andrewterra4938 2 жыл бұрын
@@MartinezC. always raise the rails without extending the stinger then when raised extend the stinger. This avoids scraping the ground when reversing. And when container is going rails and the rails when lowered the level the container with the rails, extend the stinger fully. This will balance the weight out. But lower the rails when most of the container passes the stinger. Lowering too early can bend it. So when loading the bigger containers. Keep the rails up most of the time and let the cable pull the truck under it. When the box passes the stinger, lower the rails. For better understanding, think of the rails being lowered like a regular roll of truck, those rails will then be bent bcuz they're two parts almost. The weight will bend it. So to avoid that, lower the rails later. In fact stinger are great for bigger boxes as the stinger can extend and cover more distance of the bin and the rails need to be raised a bit longer so this reduces the steer tires from coming off the ground like a regular roll off.
@andrewterra4938
@andrewterra4938 2 жыл бұрын
@@MartinezC. and when box is fully on the rails, bring the stinger all the way in. Another thing is that stinger are great for places where rails can't be raised too high. So bring rails up as high as you can, extend stinger out to ground til fender moves, then retract a bit. Then same process for loading box.

No estoy de acuerdo con el procedimiento, una vez enganchada la caja hay que dejar el camión en neutral, al tirar del cable el peso de la caja hara recular el camión debajo de la caja, hacer rodar la caja solo va provocar daño en el asfalto
