After losing these video files, finally uploading a complete step by step teardown to replace the heater core in a 2008 Jeep Liberty.This works for 2008 and newer models of the Jeep Liberty's. And should also work for 2007 and newer Dodge Nitro's. Full removal of the dash board and with this video, you'll also know how to replace the radio, climate control panel, blower engine, steering wheel, airbag, clock spring, AC evaporator, and the heater core. I've tried to make it as easy as possible to follow. This repair is very expansive unless you do it yourself like I did. Glad to help :)

Cant thank these guys enough. They saved me $1400+. Heater core is just $100ish but due to the labor everyone was asking 1500+. It was scary doing it. Lot of things to remove. After removing it the dash didnt go back. It had to be inserted in a particular way. There are guides on each side and it has to be inserted properly. Highly recommend having someone for this step alone. Others are one person activity.

Excellent job! This video took the intimidation factor out of the job which to me, is 80% of the hurdle to get started. I did mine by myself and it took me about 14 hours. I did not have to remove the steering column or the front seats. In fact, I sat in the driver seat for most of the job. I also did not remove the dash out of the vehicle. I set it in the front seats. I also did not remove the A/C components. After watching your video, I knew what the heater core module looked like so I removed a few screws and yanked it out. It lifts out the opposite way that the dash comes out. The heater core module rocks up facing you and you yank up and angled back toward you. You can ignore that little cracking sound as it comes loose. My final modification was that I did not remove the cables through the firewall. I simply cut them with wire cutters and connected them during reassembly with quick disconnects. Mine is a 2012 and the steering wheel is different than yours. Mine did not have those three clips for the ABS/horn. Mine had two 10mm head bolts; one on left and one on right. One of the most annoying things about this job was that I had to use darned near every tool I own. For torx bolts (T-20) I had to use my Craftsman sockets plus a screwdriver style. If you don't have both of these then go buy them before you start this job. Also go buy the 5-pack interior tools from Harbor Freight for under $10. The auto stores sell the same tools for $15. I wish auto manufacturers would standardize/simplify their screws and bolts. Some on this car are 10mm bolts, others are 7mm/phillips, and others are T-20 torx. Thanks a million for the excellent video. Andrew

Okay... I just did this job on a 2011 Jeep Liberty Sport. This video is a great guide line but definitely doesn't show everything that needs to be done but I am very greatful for this video because it did help allot. I did all my own refrigeration work and from start to finish It took me 13.5 hours with no help, just me. I took the time to inspect my evaporator coil and it was still in great shape so I did not replace it. I did put new O'rings on each side of the expansion device. I also took the time to number and label each part as I removed it and also put every screw, nut, bolt in a sandwich bag and taped it to the parts they were used on. I ended up pulling somewhere around 30ish parts off and every one was numbered, so as I was putting everything back together I was able to start with my high number and work backwards to make sure every part was put back on in the reverse order as they were taken off. I did remove the passenger seat but not the driver's seat. The steering wheel itself does not have to come off but I did remove the steering column with wheel attached, it honestly wasn't too difficult to remove the column and wheel as one piece. Thanks for the video! Not sure I could have figured it out without following this video as I did the job

Great video walk through. I would like to add. You don't have to remove the steering wheel from the column you can disconnect the harness and the interlock cable and remove the four bolts and the intermediate shaft and remove the column in one piece, that is how we did at the dealership.

Can't you get at the heater core without removing the entire dash. I've seen comments where you just pull the dash completely up after steering wheel removal but leave the last airbag connection and wheel speed sensor. It leaves you enough room to get at the core.

I just did this job. You don't have to take the seats out! The center console will come out without that, Also you don't have to disassemble the steering wheel! Remove the pinch bolt and four mount nuts and the thing will practically fall out all in one piece. After unplugging of course. I do a lot of these for local shops and try to find the easiest way. Disassembling the steering wheel and pulling the seats will add an hour, at least...

What do you have to unplug on the steering column for it to drop down once the mount nuts and pinch nut is removed?
@dronographyllc3549
@dronographyllc3549 6 жыл бұрын
all of the plugs and the shift interlock cable. Take pictures before disassembly. All of the plugs are different so don't worry about getting them mixed up. Also a good idea is to take a large piece of cardboard and rough sketch the dash and steering wheel. Take a screw out, poke it in the cardboard. That way all fasteners go EXACTLY where they came out and no "extra parts. it takes about ten minutes to get the steering column out.

I Paid $1400 to have this done last year. Drove 3 miles down the road and the heat quit on me. Took it back, they tinkered with it over night and the same thing happened. The mechanic told me there's nothing more he could do with it after he charged me $100 to flush it. He said jeep libertys of my year had problems with sand contamination when they cast the engine so I'll always have plugging issues with the heater core. Wish I had the guts to do this myself back then. Would have saved a lot of $$$
