These short videos covering one word or one aspect of grammar are really useful. เก็บไว้ is probably the one I hear most, but when I take my car to the service center and they need to keep it there to do a repair they use ทิ้งไว้. When they say this I know what it means, but I was a bit confused why they used ทิ้ง. Now I know! In the video you also used the word ฝาก. This is a word I hear a lot and it seems to have different meanings - ของฝาก (gift) ฝากเงิน (deposit money) and others. A video on all the uses of ฝาก would be useful.

I see that โปรด is "to favor, to like, to be pleased to" so ของโปรด as "favorite" makes sense. But I was surprised that my dictionary also had the meaning "meat" for ของโปรด. Is that because meat is sort of "a favorite" of people? Perhaps it is similar to how the word "rice" (ข้าว) is generalized into "food" as in กินข้าว - it doesn't necessarily mean you are eating rice, just means eating food. Or, perhaps my dictionary has it wrong! I know the general word for "meat" is เนื้อ as in เนื้อหมู (pork), เนื้อไก่ (chicken), เนื้อควาย (buffalo meat), etc.

Wai is used always for short-term future, correct? It could be longer but in that case the time period would be well known, not indefinite, right? So, either brief indefinite or longer but defined time period?

She is a beautiful teacher. I was in Thailand once while doing a training exercise with the marine corps. Beautiful place and people as long as you go to the right places. The beaches are heavenly. Never learned any Thai during the time I was their. I did leave with some memories and some souvenirs. It was hard to leave when it was time to go especially when I met a nice woman their. : /

basically wai means "to keep or save something for later"

English doesn't use a whole word to separately express past or soon to be done action. Instead it alters the sentence as a whole to be set in a past tense. Rather than saying, "I cook my favorite food." Which is present action; you'd say, "I *have cooked* my favorite food."

This is the most dififcult word.... Direct translate in chinse = 抓 catch In english = save / keep In Bahasa Malay = tahan (hold on) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Okay... here is a good example of why I struggle with Thai. The first statement to be translated is "แม่ทำของโปรดไว่ให้ม," which she then says is English "Your mom has made your favourite dish for you." But if you break this down, it comes out "Mom make favourite for later let/give/for." What the h*** is the Thai speaker talking about? If I were going to tell my friend this in Thai, it would be, "แม่ทำอาหารโปรดของแกให้แกกินทีหลัง" This is why I rarely understand spoke Thai. When my wife and Thai friends speakThai, they do it naturally, the way they have learned to speak growing up Thai. When my wife asks me if I understand what they're talking about, I say I just undertand words, but can't figure out subject because there is a lot missing. Often my step-son will say something. I look at him confused. Ask him to speak slower. And when he finally manages to speak slow enough and I understand, what he tells me slowly is twice as long as what he told me normally. I have a good Thai vocabulary. Rarely use English when shopping or out and about. Can read and write and understand what I'm reading. But as soon as a Thai person starts talking to me naturally, I am totally lost, like here: แม่ทำของโปรดไว่ให้ม. Whose mom? Make what? Favourite what? Whose favourite? Do what for later? Give? Let? Totally lost when Thais speak this way.
