He's absolutely right. Last year he failed in the final game of the season. This year, he failed in his 1st playoff game. He's not a good coach when the pressure is on, he can't handle the fire

Somebody has to win and somebody has to lose. Unless the idea is that there are dozens and dozens and dozens of potential Super Bowl head coaches out there then maybe these owners need to think twice before they fire their coach every two minutes. I don't keep up heavily on the LA Chargers though so maybe he does need to go but I do know that owners are paying a ridiculous amount of money to coaches that are sitting at home. All over the league

Isn't he a former defensive coordinator shouldn't the QB and offensive coordinator get any blame for scoring 3 points in second half
@jlv3x

Plus in that last game of the season I think he should have held out Mike Williams and Keenon Allen. The Chargers are a different team when both of them are on the field and healthy. Williams had only been back a couple of weeks off an injury.

@@rm7588i agree with you, Offensive coordinator definitely deserves blame but Herbert doesn’t. Herbert didn’t turn the ball over and he managed the game the best he could with what he had.

Doug Pederson coached circles around Staley in that second half. The way Doug kept the Jags composed, focused, and in that game is amazing. The Chiefs are gonna beat the brakes off them this coming weekend, but they’ve really got something to grow on this off-season.

I’m not even a chargers fan (I’m a sad Bears fan) but wow, I have to unload my thoughts on this because this is truly insane. The thing is that people can put the blame on a bunch of people when you blow a huge lead, and usually there is a legitiment argument. But this one is 100% on the chargers coaching staff, mainly their head coach and play callers. I actually think their coach was criticized a little too much for playing starters last week, because I think people undervalue the importance of players keeping their rhythm going into the playoffs, and I think the players keeping rhythm was a big reason why the chargers dominated the first part of this game against the Jags (but obviously hindsight is 20/20 w/ Williams getting hurt). But my main point is that when the team blows a huge lead AND the offense didn’t even turn the ball over all game, to me that is the definition of god-awful coaching. The fact they even had that lead shows that the players came ready to play. Herbert wasn’t completely perfect, but he was still amazing, and the defense was able to shut down the Jags completely. It almost seems like Staley doesn’t know that he has to make in game adjustments based on what the other team is doing. This is why I think quarterbacks receive too much credit or too much blame, and coaches don’t receive enough credit or enough blame. Just look at what Daboll is doing with Daniel Jones and the Giants. (Also Justin Fields w/ the bears) Some people might disagree with me, but I don’t think guys like Mahomes or Brady would have nearly the amount of success w/o Andy Reid and Belichick. I sometimes wish my bears drafted Mahomes over Trubisky, but honestly, I think we would’ve ruined him. And also obviously Staley was terrible, but the chargers shortcomings ultimately fall on the ownership, who hired Staley in the first place.

Amen. We ultimately needs new owners.

@MrBugman3009
@MrBugman3009 Жыл бұрын
exactly. chargers COULD have maybe hired andy Reid when the chiefs did. who knows if he woud have taken the job. But, TIGHT WAD,CHEAP SKATE spanos only hires CHEAP FIRST time head coaches. Other teams, if their Starting left tackle sufers a SEASON ENDING injury, they sign another tackle. NOT the chargers. Granted, back ups are not as good as starters, but our back ups look totally LOST when on the field. That is COACHING. On the jet sweep, the player doesnt know he is supposed to take the hand off? He turned his shoulder AWAY from the ball, like dont give it to me. causing a fumble they were LUCKY to recover.

Bosa slamming his helmet again after Staley gave it back was so telling. He has no control of his players. Is he an equipment manager or head coach? What is their identity? What does he add to the team? If he didn’t have this level of talent, a top 3 roster, what would his record be?

I knew this was going to happen the moment it was announced that they were going to go with that garbage can of an OC, completely overlooked his terrible time in Detroit. I feel terrible for Staley, but with the talent they have, there is no way they should only have gotten 3 points in the 2nd half. I hope that if Staley stays, they move on to an OC that will be capable of taking advantage of this roster and Herberts potential.

I didn't know Bootsy Collins is a Cowboys fan. Shouldn't be yelling to get people fired and do you have an original take with value and why make him a laughing stock by clowning him in front of everybody there trying to get them laughing? Steven A., I agree at Brandon Staley is not the coach for this team and this is coming from a Chargers fan, a longtime Chargers fan, who has endured plenty of heartbreak. Yes this is the worst to overcome, and every pundit is dogpiling on Brandon Staley today. At least Dan Orlovsky had the decency to say you don't just fire people publicly, like you don't just wanna fire him, you wanna publicly execute him and jump up and down and cheer...what good is that, and your social media histrionics don't deliver a contender any faster.
