Reports have been spewing out about Sir Jim Ratcliffe, saying that INEOS
have done their due diligence planning for potential replacements for Erik ten Hag. Undoubtedly, De Zerbi is one of the first names on that list. He must be. But here are my worries about him...

This is exactly why no manager has worked out. Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti all would have failed dismally here as well with this set up. Even Fergie would not turn this around if he came in cold in his prime. The club was so concerned with protecting the value of their "asset" with these players that they let the club rot while building this squad of spineless primadonas

I was Ten Hag in...then a week ago I started to think that it didn't matter if he was capable of being successful, it might be better for everyone involved to have a complete fresh start, which would mean bringing in a new manager...now after the supposed player leaks, I'm firmly ten Hag in again and yes, it's completely out of spite. The players have gotten away with their bullshit for too long and it's time we had owners with a backbone say "No, we're sticking with this manager so either change your attitude or get out."

This is my thing. If it’s the players and the manager. I won’t say no. I think his in game management is a complete contradiction to his brilliant off the field work. But if it’s just him that’s going then it’s just the same old cycle. I think give him another 2 years. With more youth coming through and decent signings. Even if it doesn’t work out we are in a much better place

Ya it doesn't look good for Ten Hag. But we cannot have another manager leave & retain a lot of these players. A new manager would come in & quite rightly want to assess the squad first. We can't have that. Majority of the squad isn't good enough & needs overhauling. So for that reason, I'd be more inclined to keep Ten Hag

ETH at Ajax was far impressive than De Zerbi currently is. I would like to see De Zerbi coach a more ambitious team, not a team like Brighton which is just ok with staying afloat in the league before coaching Manchester United. If we can't get Nagelsmann, I'll stick with ETH at least for next season while giving him the necessary ingredients he needs and assess the team from then

Ten Hag has been woeful this season and sticking to a system that allows 100 shots against a game is rediculous. Saying that, our players are a toxic bunch of A holes. If we buy players that suit our club and not just whatTen Hag want, we might aswell clear out 10 players, bring in lower wage, £30m-£50m players that suit one style and see what he can do. If I had my way I would clear the decks and bring in Nagelsman.

We have had 10 years of the same thing! In that time Arteta has been mocked by United fans for finishing 8th twice but is still in the job and now Arsenal are in a title race! Isn't it about time we stopped blaming the manager and get behind him? If he does go however id hope its because it wasn't in the current era he was brought in and whoever comes in was given time to shine! We have had a bad season with injuries but even in defeat we have looked decent at times this season! I do like De Zerbi though but you are right that the form at times this season hasn't been great but then you do have to consider that almost every club struggles in their first European campaign and this is without considering their record with injuries is almost as bad as ours!

Being a Brighton season ticket holder for the past 10 years, I have seen how Brighton have been built, De Zerbi is simply a cog in the wheel that is BHA FC. De Zerbi might be a big manager in years to come but a job of this magnitude, one of the top 5 jobs in world football he is not ready, now way near ready in terms of the knowledge of a big club, the history of a big club. Its also questionable if he can manage the names needed in our dressing room, he is a fiery Italian and he hasnt got the track record of being able to handle the names under the monumental pressures that will be on him. Keep ETH and lets build in his last season, if it doesnt work then aim higher than a possible top manager in years to come, aim for a top manager, one of the best in Europe!

I don't know why it is such a revelation to some that you need good players to succeed at a high level. United doesn't have enough good players. So, why are all eyes on ETH? Many of these players have been at United before ETH, and we knew they weren't good enough then, so what's changed? This season, the form of Eriksen and Casemiro falling off a cliff has really, really hurt this team. But overall, any manager needs competent people in the front office to support them. By all accounts, United has not had that since SAF left.

I haven’t heard anything about any alternative that makes me think Ten Haag shouldn’t at the very least been given the full length of his contract. He undoubtedly can handle the pressure, and the amount of fires he’s had to fight while trying to get a tune out of, as Stephen says, a camel of a squad, is ridiculous. Of course he’s made mistakes, but I bet you he knows how to overcome the issues, if he gets half decent support. He was the first decent option chosen since Fergie was on fire at Ajax. Give the man a year and the chance to have a team that is completely his.

I think the difficult thing here is that coming to United is like going to a team in the championship with expectations of winning the premier league. If de Zerbi comes in he's coming into a worse run club that Brighton. It used to be that a manager who could prove himself at a smaller club should scale up because the support structure improved, budget improved etc. The last decade we had a bigger budget but we overspent so badly that our effectiveness in the market was probably at the bottom of the league. 3x the budget means nothing if you pay 3x for every player anyway. Our structure is easily amongst the worst in the league. Pep has a fallout with Cancelo, dude is gone and replaced, no matter how, it gets done. We would have extended his contract, doubled his wages, forced the manager to play him, tried to sell him the next year, got rejected because nobody wants those wages, bragged about his value on the books, then fired the manager to appease the player.

Yeah I don't see us swapping our manager for someone else unless it's someone that could take us back to the low block and counter attacking style that would suit the imbalance of our squad better. Alot of the fans wanted Ten Hag in for implementing a style with modern attacking football. Now we know the squad aren't balanced enough to compete in such a style atm. So for me the experience Ten Hag has gotten this season could seem to be extremely valuable for the longer run. He has had directives over the academy and reserves. Would be interesting to see if that would bring him a better squad for the future. We seriously need some quality players to compete for the biggest trophies, but for now I am content if we stick with Ten Hag and let Ineos start working with the structure above.

One of the prerequisites to be a manager at United is that he has to be a winner. A coach who has won trophies. De zerbi is an innovative tactician but his resume is pretty mixed. A coach who ticks all the right boxes is Xabi Alonso. He’s young, he’s an innovative and exciting coach and he is now a winner although I doubt he would want to come to a shithole like United. It is a catch 22. You can't get a manager in their prime from another top club. As why would they leave. So you have to take a punt. Sometimes it works, Klopp is a perfect example. Sometimes it doesn't, Potter being an example. I have concerns over De Zerbi though as Brighton have put in some awful performances this year. I think the only manager I think ticks most boxes is Zidane. Players would respect him, he's not old, he's won everything as a player, won CL as a manager and I don't think he would be fazed by managing United. He has that confidence, some say arrogance about him

Disagree! De Zerbi teams do break down low-blocks. He looses those games against Luton, etc, because he has average defenders. Yet still he uses those average players and play competitively against the top teams(City, Arsenal, Liverpool etc) Look at Caiceado and Cucurella at Chelsea compared to how they were at Brighton? Imagine what he could do with top players, which he’ll be able to get at Man Utd. I believe he could implement his style of football in our team and get us to control games and create and score more goals(attractive football) We would just need one more midfielder who’s good in possession and another ball playing defender to replace Maguire. And with Mainoo, Mount/Bruno, we would definitely compete. I promise you when Pep leaves City, they’ll go for De Zerbi. Mark my words.

De Zerbi scares the piss out of me at United, I think I might honestly prefer Southgate. There is No chance, ZERO CHANCE, that this current group of players can play anything like the kind of football DZ has gotten out of Brighton. Which means we have to go shopping and build a team, and if we're going to do that anyway then we might as well do it with ten Hag IMHO. Even though Southgate is rubbish, there's more of a backbone to play his 'style' at the moment, and he can certainly foster a happy mood (which these players seem to thrive on).

I am in complete agreement with Howson - to me it is sheer lunacy to keep bringing in different [accomplished] managers who constantly get let down by an utterly self-absorbed and lazy bunch of players! We seem to be obsessed by this 'rinse and repeat' mindset where if a manager doesn't have instant impact and success - they are jettisoned. Yet the players get a free pass for constantly not performing! So things stay exactly the same. I am not sure if ETH IS the right manager - but how can we find out unless we give him the chance [under a much better management and recruitment team?]

De Zerbi has hardly any experience period. Attractive football? Sure, but 0 trophies won with this style because its not perfect either. Brighton are so open and they arguable have a better defensive setup than our current injury back line.

If we had to get rid of a bunch of overpaid players and as a fan base accept we won't compete next season in order to reshuffle the squad properly I have a feeling the fan base will be for it. I know I will. Let go of rashford, awb, Scott, maguire, case, varane, martial, sancho and company. .base the team around the current players worth keeping and the young players who are capable and then buy 4 or 5 for next season, try to get top 6 and push on the season after that for top 4. . I'm here for it, it wouldn't hurt to try and fix it for a season or two instead of this loop we stuck in

IF there IS going to be a change of manager, then so long as we can avoid Southgate and Potter, I would be relatively happy. If it was either of those two I might consider slitting my wrists. Seriously however we need a manager with significant experience of managing big clubs with very high profile players and dealing with those big egos. Whoever it may be also needs experience in European competition. For me the biggest problem is the big egos, there are undeniably some players at the club who are not helping at all. Some may describe it as throwing the manager under the bus, I just think it is players who think they are bigger than the club and I don't care who they are, they need to go..... We therefore need a strong manager, who can and will make those potentially difficult decisions. I think EtH has shown that he can and will make and take those kind of decisions. So... on balance EtH to stay for me UNLESS a stellar candidate becomes available and is willing to come to United and those managers don't grow on trees and too many other big clubs are in the market for a similar sort of manager this summer....

The problem we have as a club is we never go for a manager who's really won something. The only coach who did was Jose and we won the Europa league(the FA, league cup and community shield do not count for shit) . We better let ETH have a 3rd season then move on. What's this clamour to send a manager away after 2 seasons. The players haven't had time to assimilate the managers philosophy, yet we're already going for the jugular. If we go for a serial winner no problem but Di Zerbi is not the solution tbh.

The strict/authoritarian approach via Mourinho and Ten Hag didn't work. The 'nice guy' approach via OGS didn't work either. I feel Tuchel would be too soft with the players. So realistically that only leaves Xavi, Zidane or De Zerbi. Two unproven in the PL and one who has never managed a big club. Not exactly giving much in the way of optimism.

I think the solution to this man utd mess is to fire Ten Hag NOW!!! because he has lost the dressing room, rarely uses youth, a rigid coach who uses the same sytem every time despite failure & doesn't like squad rotation, then on temporary basis bring a good vibes coach to pamper these prima donnas they might finish top 6 then in summer bring a no nonsense coach like De Zerbi & carry out a PROPER CLEAR OUT. One good thing with De Zerbi is he can do wonders with youth and average players....united won't require superstar signings he will work with talents like Openda, Jonathan Davids, Ivan Toney, Vlahovic, Brahim Diaz, Sergej Milenkovic, Ousmane Diomande, , Johan bakayoko, zubimendi, Latin America talent, replace Rashford with mitoma, Neco Williams or Leao etc The only players who can raise big revenue are Shaw, Rashford and Bruno SELL THEM!!! The market is flooded with their replacements

Managers have changed but what has remained constant is the players. They downed tools, stopped playing & threw their dummy’s out the Pram under each Manager. The “Core” group of players are toxic and sooner or later they start to poison the drinking water for all! Rashford, Maguire, Bruno, Sancho & Martial to name a few. The decline in Casemiro in my view isn’t physical but mental as he’s tired of players Iack of professionalism and desire to win. If they can’t put effort in to win they why should he?! Clear out the squad and find players that want to play for Manchester United!
