The focus of the 1.5 update is on enhancing the interactivity of Stepic and making it playable more like a real instrument. In addition, the VST3 version now offers full support for FL Studio 21.
Here's a quick snapshot of what's new:
• MIDI Play: Play Stepic using your MIDI Keyboard and your DAW's note arrangement. Choose from three unique modes: Transpose, Arpeggiator, Chord-Play.
• Pitchbend-Transpose: As part of MIDI Play, this feature lets you transpose Stepic's sequences using your keyboard or controller's pitchbend function.
• MIDI Mapping: Easily manage various Stepic functions like pattern changes using MIDI notes or CC messages.
• MIDI Thru: Route MIDI messages through Stepic directly to your synth. You have the flexibility to determine which message types to pass through, including Aftertouch, Controller Change, Pitchbend, Modwheel, and more.
A huge thanks to Chris from S1gns of L1fe for creating this video for us!🙏❤️

About Stepic
Stepic isn't just a powerful and versatile polyphonic step sequencer. 8 additional and fully integrated modulation sequencers make it a true sound shaping tool. Use them to automate any parameter (e.g. Filter Cutoff, Wavetable Position, Effect Amount) of your favorite synthesizers or effect devices. With its support for MIDI CC, Stepic offers you parameter control for both software plug-ins and hardware devices.
By assigning different tempos and sequence lengths to the modulation sequencers, Stepic lets you create deep, polyrhythmic parameter progressions that add a lot of movement and uniqueness to your sound. And if that's not enough, start to bring the 200+ randomization options into play ;-)

Well you can count me impressed! I especially like that Stepic can now be a richly-featured arpeggiator. This means that we can use complex chords instead of relying on stored patterns etc., and let Stepic do the grunt work of turning it into beautiful sequences that fit the harmony of the song perfectly. Excellent update, thank you Devicemeister!

I always felt that while fantastic Stepic lacks some stuff I'd want to see in a sequencer like this, and well this update here adds exactly what I felt was missing. The ability to interact with live notes raises this already great sequencer to completely new heights, very exited to try this out. And as an FL user, I'm very glad to see it work fully for the daw now, now we no longer need to run virtual midi port chains to get it properly working. Good job on this update!

The octave spiral function is also great. I've never gotten my hands on a better arpeggiator! Please take out this wheel for the root note and replace it with a pull-down menu, as with Ton Scala. Great to see these updates! Would it be possible for the chord mode to have more options in the future? For example, delaying notes in a chord by random amounts (psuedo strum) or the ability to randomize octave range of chord notes as opposed to the whole thing. Of course, everything has to work with the UI so I know this is easier said than done. Either way, looking forward to using this version more and future updates.

Hi, thanks for your feedback and suggestions. It's quite possible that Chord-Play will be expanded in the future. As you've already recognized, it's a walk on a thin line. Stepic is close to the ultimate sequencer/arp. May be a feature or two elsewhere but would have to sit down and do a full comparison to say for sure. Definitely was an immediate buy. I've always wondered why a sequencer didn't just let you play in any random notes with any timing, and make that a sequence that you can then trigger for transposed MIDI play mode... All it needs is a small buffer to capture the note sequence for display and any desired editing. That way the sequence can literally be anything of any number of notes at any time. it's like turning a piano roll into a sequencer triggered at any input pitch for all the rest of the mods you can apply like probability of any note step...
@devicemeister
@devicemeister 6 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you like Stepic. Is the second paragraph a feature suggestion? At the moment, I don't quite understand what you are looking for. Feel free also to write to the official contact email. There we can discuss feature ideas in detail.
@brianmi40
@brianmi40 6 ай бұрын
@@devicemeister I'm simply pointing out there is a better tool in every DAW for defining chords or notes at any step in a sequence: a Piano Roll. So the first sequencer that recognizes and implements that will be a breakthrough as opposed to building a new interface to learn, sliding each note up or down or going to each step and building a chord on the keyboard shown as in Stepic. A Piano Roll instead allows recording in to capture the sequence, no limits on timing or length of the notes, quantity of notes and the easiest visualization and editing of the sequence. Everyone's simply stepping over the best interface as the "herd" went all in unison to build something new.
@quinxx12
@quinxx12 2 ай бұрын
Really cool that you thought about MIDI mapping of saved sequences. But on that note one feature that I wish for dearly, but can't find anywhere for some reason is the ability to MIDI map transposition of specific notes in a sequence. So often in a live play situation I just wanna tweak around a single note within a pattern and not the whole sequence and it would be unnecessarly tedious to save every little variation of the sequence as a separate preset. I don't wanna change the notes with the mouse when I'm in a live setup, but rather move them up and down with an encoder. Since you seem to aim for a sequencer with playability as the primary attraction that would be the feature for me which sets you apart from any other sequencer out there. But before that I don't really see a reason to buy Stepic tbh.

Hi Chris!! Would it be possible to make a video showing how to use stepic automation in logic pro x I'm trying to route the cc Midi in the phase plant but I'm not succeeding
@devicemeister
@devicemeister 4 күн бұрын
Hi, Basically, please try this: 1. In Stepic, turn on an automation sequencer of your choice. 2. Enter any MIDI-CC number (e.g., 34) into the #cc field. 3. Turn on 'ping' at the right edge of the automation sequencer. 4. Switch to Phase Plant and activate MIDI-Learn on the macro knob you want to automate. 5. When the macro knob starts moving, switch back to Stepic and turn 'ping' off. 6. Enter values into the automation sequencer. Feel free to use the 'dice' function as well. Please also check out the 6th part of the Ultimate Stepic Tutorials on automation. There you'll learn everything about Stepic's automations. I grabbed stepic in part due to your videos, so a big thanks. It is wonderful when used to control other sequencers (NDLR) via cc and other instances of stepic itself. There is one big big big wish for me. I often use hardware knobs to alter the lengths of patterns in my arp sequences, allowing me to gradually build and reduce complexity in a track. Currently, stepic does not support mapping midi controllers to the (many) sequence lengths.in an ideal universe, every single parameter that can be set in stepic should be midi mappable. Can you imaging the live or generative fun with that? Eg. One stepic instance firing midi cc to another instance to alter the polyrhythms of another! Or just being to twist the knobs on your controller and adjust the polyrhythm that way. I currently work around this by using the patterns, but it's not quite the same playability vibe I'm looking for.

Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad to hear you like Stepic and this series so much.🚀 The area of controlling Stepic functions via external MIDI will definitely be expanded in the future. Yes, with this update and the new note-in Transpose mode that's possible. However, the prerequisite is that your DAW lets you route Stepic MIDI accordingly. With most DAWs, it's possible these days.
